Actin-bundling protein fimbrin regulates pathogenicity via organizing F-actin dynamics during appressorium development in Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.

Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides leads to serious economic loss to rubber tree yield and other tropical crops. The appressorium, a specialized dome-shaped infection structure, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of C. gloeosporioides. However, the mechanism of how actin cytoskeleton dynamics regulate appressorium formation and penetration remains poorly defined in C. gloeosporioides. In this study, an actin cross-linking protein fimbrin homologue (CgFim1) was identified in C. gloeosporioides, and the knockout of CgFim1 led to impairment in vegetative growth, conidiatio

Phyllosticta musarum Infection-Induced Defences Suppress Anthracnose Disease Caused by Colletotrichum musae in Banana Fruits cv 'Embul'.

Anthracnose development by Colletotrichum musae was observed to be significantly less in the fruits of the banana cultivar 'Embul' (Mysore, AAB) infected with Phyllosticta musarum than in fruits without such infections. Anthracnose disease originates from quiescent C. musae infections in the immature fruit. P. musarum incites minute, scattered spots, referred to as freckles, in the superficial tissues of immature banana peel which do not expand during maturation or ripening. P. musarum does not appear to have a direct suppressive effect on C. musae as conidia of C. musae germinate on both frec

Natamycin, a New Biofungicide for Managing Crown Rot of Strawberry Caused by QoI-Resistant Colletotrichum acutatum.

Anthracnose crown rot of strawberry, caused by Colletotrichum acutatum, is an important disease affecting California nursery and fruit production. Preplant dip treatments of transplants with fludioxonil-cyprodinil or azoxystrobin are industry standards for managing the disease and have been used extensively. Following reports of reduced efficacy of azoxystrobin in the field, high levels of quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) resistance were detected in California isolates of the pathogen. Resistance was associated with the G143A mutation in the cytochrome b gene, similar to a previous report from

Transient expression of small secreted proteins of Colletotrichum falcatum elicits broad-spectrum disease resistance in tobacco.

Colletotrichum falcatum- secreted proteins, CfEPL1 and CfPDIP1, trigger immune responses and confer broad-spectrum disease resistance in Nicotiana tabacum against bacterial diseases. Small secreted proteins (SSPs) play crucial roles in pathogenicity and host manipulation. C. falcatum, the causative agent of red rot in sugarcane, secretes numerous SSPs during its interaction with the host. In this study, three abundantly secreted SSPs of C. falcatum-CfEPL1 (eliciting plant response-like protein 1), CfPDIP1 (plant defence inducing protein 1), and CfBYS1 (Blastomyces yeast phase-specific protein

The 3R-MYB transcription factor VvMYB3R5 regulates Colletotrichum viniferum resistance through affecting proanthocyanidin synthesis in grapevine.

Grape ripe rot (Colletotrichum spp.), a significant fungal disease, causes substantial economic losses. Although multiple MYB transcription factors have been reported to be involved in plant disease resistance against ripe rot, the specific functions and mechanisms of 3R-MYB subfamily members in grape responses to fungal pathogen infection remain unknown. Here, we identified and functionally characterized a 3R-MYB transcription factor, VvMYB3R5, for the first time, revealing its crucial positive regulatory role in grape resistance to C. viniferum and in proanthocyanidin (PA) accumulation. Acid-resistant Bacillus velezensis effectively controls pathogenic Colletotrichum capsici and improves plant health through metabolic interactions.

UNLABELLED: Colletotrichum capsici is the etiological agent of Capsicum anthracnose. Bacillus velezensis has traditionally been recognized as an effective biocontrol agent; however, its efficacy decreases due to soil acidification. In this study, we domesticated Bacillus velezensis XY40-1 along an acid resistance gradient, resulting in a strain capable of growth at pH 4, and might adapt to acidic environments by regulating genes related to spore formation. Notably, the domesticated Bacillus velezensis XY40-1 exhibits significant antagonistic activity against Colletotrichum capsici in acidic du

Antifungal metabolites (monorden, monocillins I, II, III) from Colletotrichum graminicola, a systemic vascular pathogen of maize.

Colletotrichum graminicola is a systemic vascular pathogen that causes anthracnose stalk rot and leaf blight of maize. In the course of an effort to explore the potential presence and roles of C. graminicola metabolites in maize, ethyl acetate extracts of solid substrate fermentations of several C. graminicola isolates from Michigan and Illinois were found to be active against Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium verticillioides, both mycotoxin-producing seed-infecting fungal pathogens. Chemical investigations of the extract of one such isolate (NRRL 47511) led to the isolation of known metabolites

Analysis of Bioactive Compounds Produced by Bacillus mojavensis ZA1 and Their Antagonistic Effect on Colletotrichum coccodes by GC-MS.

The plant disease Colletotrichum coccodes, which lowers potato yields, poses a severe danger to the booming potato industry. Isolated plant endophytic bacteria from highland pasture can produce a variety of metabolites that lessen the risk that the pathogen C. coccodes poses to plant growth and development. Therefore, the objective of our work was to assess substances with antipathogenic properties made by the endophytic bacteria Bacillus mojavensis ZA1. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used in our investigation to accomplish a thorough structural elucidation of the antipathoge

Pathogenic characteristics and chemical control of soybean leaf anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum sojae newly found in Northeast China.

Soybean (Glycine max) leaf anthracnose, caused by diverse pathogenic agents, poses a significant threat to global soybean production. In 2025, a pathogenic fungus was isolated from symptomatic soybean leaves collected in a major soybean-producing region of China. Morphological and molecular characterization confirmed that the isolates belong to Colletotrichum sojae. To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. sojae causing soybean leaf anthracnose in Northeast China. Among 15 tested C. sojae isolates tested, moderately virulent strains were predominant, accounting for approximately 53.3%.

Niemann-Pick Type C Proteins Are Required for Sterol Transport and Appressorium-Mediated Plant Penetration of Colletotrichum orbiculare.

Many biotrophic and hemibiotrophic fungal pathogens use appressoria to directly penetrate the host plant surface. In the cucumber anthracnose fungus Colletotrichum orbiculare, differentiation of appressoria requires a proper G1/S cell cycle progression, regulated by the GTPase-activating protein complex CoBub2-CoBfa1 and its downstream GTPase CoTem1. To explore the mechanisms by which the CoTem1 cascade regulates plant infection, we screened for CoTem1 interaction factors and identified a Niemann-Pick type C2 homolog (CoNpc2). Niemann-Pick type C proteins NPC1 and NPC2 are sterol-binding prote

Ammonium secretion during Colletotrichum coccodes infection modulates salicylic and jasmonic acid pathways of ripe and unripe tomato fruit.

The postharvest pathogens Colletotrichum coccodes remains quiescent after infection of unripe fruit. However, during fruit ripening, the pathogen assumes a necrotrophic life style, rapidly colonizing the tissue. C. coccodes secretes ammonium during germination and colonization of host tissue that induces host programmed cell death. We further examined the role of ammonia in the infection process by analyzing transcriptome expression from infected and ammonia-treated fruit tissue compared with healthy tissue. The analysis revealed 82 and 237 common upregulated and downregulated genes, respectiv
