The liver is an essential organ that helps the body with immunity, metabolism, and detoxification, among other functions. Worldwide, liver illnesses are a leading cause of mortality and disability. There are few effective treatment choices, but they frequently have unfavorable side effects. Investigating the potential of medicinal plants and their bioactive phytoconstituents in the prevention and treatment of liver disorders has gained more attention in recent years. An assessment of the hepatoprotective potential of medicinal plants and their bioactive secondary metabolites is the goal of thi

This paper examines clinical predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment outcomes following Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in Australian military veterans. Fifty nine treatment seeking veterans were enrolled in a randomized controlled trial comparing 12 sessions of CPT (n = 30) with usual treatment (n = 29) at three community-based veterans counseling centers. PTSD and key co-morbidities (depression, anxiety, anger and alcohol use) were measured. Growth curve modeling was used to examine factors which influenced PTSD severity post-treatment. For the CPT condition, baseline

This study investigated whether a subgroup of veterans with malignant posttraumatic stress syndrome, as described by Rosenheck (1985) and Lambert et al. (1996), could be identified via cluster analysis within two samples of Vietnam veterans with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In the initial subsample (n = 157), four clusters were identified, including a subgroup that scored consistently higher on measures of interpersonal violence and current physical problems. Similar results were found in the cross-validation subsample (n = 156). These results provide support for the th

The use of Interactive Psychoeducational Group Therapy to ameliorate authority problems of veterans with combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder is described. Despite the common occurrence of authority problems in this population, and the degree of damage they have caused in family, work, and legal domains, they are rarely specifically targeted by treatment interventions. A conceptual framework linking psychological trauma with distortions in authority relations is presented, followed by the format, procedures, and case examples of this form of group therapy. By uncovering the distorted b

Forty children of 28 fathers who are Vietnam veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) completed the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. Each of the fathers had at least one elevated clinical scale. Fathers averaged eight elevated clinical scales, and compared to more recent norms, fathers averaged seven elevated clinical scales. Seventy-eight percent of the children had at least one clinically elevated scale (averaging three elevated clinical scales). Compared to contemporary normal adolescents and adults, 65% of children had at least one clinically elevated scale (still ave

Glucose and lipid metabolism disorders significantly contribute to vascular damage and poor outcomes in patients with diabetes. This study aims to evaluate the combined effects of Yuquan capsules and metformin on glucose and lipid metabolism disorders and microinflammation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In this study, 100 patients with T2DM admitted to our hospital's Endocrinology Department from June 2024 to June 2025 were randomly divided into a control group (n = 50) receiving metformin and a placebo, and an observation group (n = 50) receiving metformin and Yuquan capsul

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most widespread and disabling psychiatric disorders among combat veterans. Substantial interindividual variability in susceptibility to PTSD suggests the presence of different risk factors for this disorder. Twin and family studies confirm genetic factors as important risk factors for PTSD. In addition to genetic factors, epigenetic factors, especially DNA methylation, can be considered as a potential mechanism in changing the risk of PTSD. So far, many genetic and epigenetic association studies have been conducted in relation to PTSD. In gen

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD) commonly co-occur in veterans, yet little is known about the longitudinal course of PTSD and drinking in comorbid populations. This study assessed the natural course of daily alcohol consumption and weekly changes in PTSD symptoms in 112 recent combat veterans over the course of 11 months. Latent class growth mixture modeling was used to classify individuals into distinct classes with similar PTSD symptom and alcohol use growth trajectories. We then investigated theorized predictors of class membership including sociodemograph

Soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) exhibit elevated gamma-band synchrony in left fronto-temporal cortex, and connectivity measures in these regions correlate with comorbidities and PTSD severity, which suggests increased gamma synchrony is related to symptomology. However, little is known about the role of intrinsic, phase-synchronised networks in the disorder. Using magnetoencephalography (MEG), we characterised spectral connectivity in the default-mode, salience, visual, and attention networks during resting-state in a PTSD population and a trauma-exposed control group. BACKGROUND: Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a neuropeptide that has been implicated in understanding the acquisition and extinction of fear. Research on CCK in anxiety has primarily focused on understanding panic attacks and panic disorder. Emerging data suggests that CCK may also hold promise in understanding the development and maintenance of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
METHOD: The present study examined whether a single nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter region of the CCK gene (C>T; rs1799923) was associated with an increased prevalence of PTSD as well as with severity of PTSD symp

This study compared treatment outcome at discharge, and 4, 8, and 12 month follow-up between an inpatient program consisting of a mixture of Vietnam combat veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and general psychiatric patients (N = 42), and the same program at a later period, consisting of only Vietnam combat veterans with PTSD (N = 33). Veterans rated the homogeneous environment higher in satisfaction, support, order, clarity, and amount of discussion of combat, and lower in hostility, than the heterogeneous condition. However, veterans showed no improvement in condition at 12 mo

Eighteen chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD+) combat veterans were administered nalmefene, a non-FDA approved oral opiate antagonist, based on the hypothesis that emotional numbing is an opiate-mediated phenomenon. Eight veterans showed a favorable response with a marked decrease of emotional numbing and other symptoms of PTSD, including startle response, nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, rage and vulnerability. Veterans who responded favorably to the drug demonstrated a waxing and a waning of positive and negative PTSD symptoms with a general improvement in all these sympt

Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's disease, Multiple sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, are characterized by progressive neuronal loss, oxidative stress, chronic neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and apoptosis. The Nrf2/ARE, IĸB/NFĸB, MAPK/AP-1, and JAK-STAT signaling pathways play a pivotal role in these pathological processes, making them promising therapeutic targets. Luteolin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, has demonstrated potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties by modulating these interconnect

OBJECTIVE: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with criminal justice involvement in veterans, but it is unclear how trauma type influences this relationship. The present study examines the impact of combat trauma on the severity and course of PTSD and the relationship with criminogenic needs in justice-involved veterans.
METHOD: We conducted secondary analysis of data from 287 veterans with a criminal history admitted to mental health residential treatment. Participants completed interviews to assess PTSD symptom severity, criminal history, and criminogenic needs at the start o

BACKGROUND: Studies suggest that the components of brain-evoked potentials (EPs) may serve as biomarkers of the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by participation in combat operations; however, to date, research remains fragmented, with no studies that have attempted to combine different paradigms. In addition, the mismatch negativity component has not been studied in a Russian sample of veterans with PTSD.
AIM: To identify objective neurophysiological markers of combat-related PTSD using the method of auditory-evoked potentials in active and passive listening paradigms.
METHODS:
