This report presents the case of a 67-year-old female inpatient who had a language communication barrier and accidentally ingested a blister pack. Effective communication was facilitated through an interpreter, and prompt endoscopic intervention was conducted to remove the foreign body safely. The patient was discharged with no further symptoms during follow-up. This case highlights the imp

Bexar County is a South Texas county with low human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates, which hinders efforts to prevent HPV-related cancers. We conducted a community assessment from the perspective of community members who administer social/health services and/or coalitions in Bexar County. We aimed to assess perceived barriers and possible community solutions to HPV vaccination in Bexar County. Data were collected using an online quantitative survey measuring knowledge and attitudes toward HPV vaccination based on the Increasing Vaccination Model, as well as perceived barriers to HPV vac

People from Black backgrounds are underrepresented in Parkinson's research, despite evidence of higher disease burden and risk of dementia. Greater understanding of the factors influencing participation in Parkinson's research can improve recruitment, quality and generalizability of both observational research studies and clinical trials. Through focus groups with 17 people with Parkinson's and carers from Black communities, we identified distrust in the research process, stigma of Parkinson's diagnosis, and accessibility as key barriers to research participation. Participants made recommendat

INTRODUCTION: Becoming a parent is a deeply personal process that changes the dynamics of one's social and psychological worlds. Parenthood also exists within the context of cultural and, for those who give birth, medical backgrounds. Little is known about how those who identify as deaf experience navigating resources, medical and educational professionals, and support systems in parenthood.
METHODS: This study investigates the lived experiences of N = 37 deaf parents using reflexive thematic analysis.
RESULTS: Four primary themes were constructed from the data. The first was that many deaf

BACKGROUND: The integration of mental health and social services for people diagnosed with severe mental illness (SMI) has been a key aspect of attempts to reform mental health services in the UK and aims to minimise user and carer distress and confusion arising from service discontinuities. Community mental health teams (CMHTs) are a key component of UK policy for integrated service delivery, but implementing this policy has raised considerable organisational challenges. The aim of this study was to identify and explore facilitators and barriers perceived to influence continuity of care by he

RESULTS: This paper identifies three main factors contributing to the limited use of AAC:

BACKGROUND: The operating room is one of the noisiest healthcare environments, creating critical challenges for patient safety, team efficiency, and surgical outcomes. Operating room nurses, essential for patient care and team coordination, face unique risks from noise exposure and impaired communication, yet their challenges remain underexplored.
OBJECTIVE: To assess hearing challenges and communication barriers in operating room teams from nurses' perspectives, with implications for patient safety and interventions.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey.

INTRODUCTION: Although American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people have high rates of abstinence from alcohol and other drugs, there also is evidence of greater rates of substance use disorders (SUDs) in Native communities. Health disparities associated with substance use are compounded by inadequate access to evidence-based treatments (EBTs). Lack of mental health providers is one notable barrier to EBT implementation in rural AI reservation communities. Our Indigenous Recovery Planning (IRP) intervention merges cultural lessons and culturally adapted relapse prevention strategies to fac
