Coracoid process fracture with acromioclavicular joint separation in an American football player: a case report and literature review.

Coracoid process fractures are rare and few cases have been reported in the orthopedic literature. In this article, we report the case of an American football player with a coracoid process fracture in the setting of acromioclavicular separation and describe incidence, mechanism of injury, and treatment. Although rare, coracoid process fracture should be considered in the differential diagnosis for shoulder pain. Treatment varies according to fracture type. Based on our literature review, we recommend that clinicians initially treat nondisplaced coracoid fractures nonoperatively.

Which radiological parameters of the coracoid process influence the diagnosis of atraumatic subscapularis tears? Systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Accurate diagnosis of subscapularis tears remains challenging due to the limitations of physical examinations and imaging techniques. Therefore, specific radiological parameters have been proposed as predictors of atraumatic subscapularis tears to improve diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy. These parameters include coracohumeral distance (CHD), coracoglenoid angle (CGA), coracoid angle (CA), coracoid overlap (CO), and coracohumeral angle (CHA). However, well-accepted cutoff values are still lacking, and there is no consensus on its clinical usefulness. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Th

An innovative fixation technique by osteosuture in a young athletic female patient with coracoid process fracture: a case report.

Coracoid process fractures are uncommon lesions but are frequently associated with an acromioclavicular dislocation. The aim of this article is to report our experience of an innovative fixation technique by osteosuture in a young athletic female patient presenting a displaced fracture of the coracoid process on the insertion footprint of coracoclavicular ligaments, with no breach of continuity of the lower coracoid cortex. She also had a roockwood type 3 acromioclavicular dislocation. After a deltopectoral approach, the fracture was reduced to the anatomical position and stabilized by a first

Subacute Acromioclavicular Dislocation After Basal Coracoid Process Fracture: Indirect Reduction without Open Reduction and Internal Fixation: A Case Report.

CASE: A 55-year-old man presented with an isolated undisplaced basal coracoid process (CP) fracture after direct trauma over his right shoulder. One week later, he presented with pain and anatomical deformity over the acromioclavicular joint (ACJ). Shoulder x-rays and computerized tomography revealed a complete acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation and displaced CP fracture. Anatomical AC reduction and ipsilateral coracoid fracture reduction were obtained using fixation with a hook plate. At 12-month follow-up, the patient regained functionality and showed complete CP consolidation and anatomic a

Fractures of the coracoid process - pathoanatomy and classification: based on thirty nine cases with three dimensional computerised tomography reconstructions.

PURPOSE: Until now, classifications of coracoid fractures have been based on plain radiographs, without use of 3D CT reconstructions. Therefore, the aim of the present study has been to describe the pathoanatomy of these fractures and their associated injuries to the shoulder girdle, on the basis of 3D CT reconstructions. METHODS: The cohort comprised 39 patients, who each sustained a coracoid fracture investigated with 3D CT reconstructions. The patients were assessed in terms of age, gender, pathoanatomy of the coracoid fracture, fractures of other parts of the scapula, and associated injur

Coracoid process fracture combined with acromioclavicular dislocation and coracoclavicular ligament rupture. A case report and review of the literature.

A coracoid process fracture associated with acromioclavicular joint dislocation and with rupturing of the coracoclavicular ligaments of an adult has been reported only once in the literature. This report adds another unusual case to the literature to reemphasize the importance of recognizing this unusual lesion. Two separate mechanisms--direct trauma to the shoulder girdle and sudden pull on the coracoid process by the conjoined tendons of short head biceps and coracobrachialis muscles--appear to be responsible for this unusual triple lesion. Open reduction with coracoid screw and acromioclavi

[Coracoid process abutment according to Latarjet versus the Bankart operation. A comparative study of the results in 50 cases].

The authors have analyzed the postoperative results in 50 patients of two surgical techniques used for the treatment of anterior recurrent dislocation of the shoulder. The study only concerns "virgin" shoulders having formally presented numerous anterior recurrent dislocations treated by the Bankart procedure or the Bristow-Latarjet operation. This work consists of a clinical evaluation with objective and subjective results on one hand, and a radiological evaluation on the other hand. The Latarjet operation gives 97% excellent and good results, as compared with 76% for the Bankart procedure. T

[Ipsilateral Fractures of the Coracoid and Acromion Process of the Scapula Combined with the Distal Clavicle End Fracture, Treatment Options].

Superior Shoulder Suspensory Complex (SSSC) is a bone and soft-tissue ring securing the connection of the upper extremity to the axial skeleton via the clavicle and sternoclavicular joint. An isolated injury to one component of SSSC is usually stable. An injury to 2 of its components is a potential source of shoulder girdle instability and requires surgical stabilisation. An injury affecting 3 and more components is extremely rare and surgical stabilisation should be indicated. Our study presents the case of a 50-year-old man who fell off the bicycle and sustained a direct blow to his left sho

A lower critical coracoid process angle is associated with type-B osteoarthritis: a radiological study of normal and diseased shoulders.

BACKGROUND: Degenerative rotator cuff tears and osteoarthritis (OA) are associated with differences in coronal plane scapular morphology, with particular focus on the effect of the critical shoulder angle (CSA) on shoulder biomechanics. The effect, if any, of axial plane scapular morphology is less well established. We have noticed wide disparity of axial coracoid tip position in relation to the face of the glenoid and sought to investigate the significance of this through measurement of the critical coracoid process angle (CCPA), which incorporates coracoid tip position and glenoid version.

Rupture of the long head biceps tendon treated with tenodesis to the coracoid process. Results at more than 30 years.

We evaluated patients at very long term with rupture of the long head biceps tendon (LHBT) in whom the tendon stump had been sutured to the coracoid tip (Gilcreest technique). Our aim was to determine the natural history of shoulders deprived of the LHBT and to assess the validity of the surgical technique. Between 1969 and 1981, 30 patients with rupture of the LHBT and no evidence of cuff tear underwent the Gilcreest operation. The mean age of the patients was 32 years (range, 20-49). Six of them were professional gymnasts. The 28 patients that could be traced were evaluated a mean of 31 year

Bilateral anterior glenohumeral dislocation and coracoid processes fracture after seizure: acute MRI findings of this rare association.

We report a rare case of bilateral anterior shoulder dislocation associated with coracoid processes fracture after a seizure episode in a 37-year-old woman. This combination of findings is rare, especially by the presence of bilateral coracoid processes fracture. Possible mechanisms related are direct trauma of humeral heads over the coracoid processes or sudden pull of biceps short head attachment site during uncontrolled contractures. Few reports published similar combination of injuries, and to our knowledge, this is the first to demonstrate its acute features by magnetic resonance imaging.

An Isolated Displaced Fracture of the Coracoid Process Treated with Open reduction and internal fixation - A Case Report and Review of Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Isolated coracoid fractures are rare and few scattered cases are reported in literature. Coracoid fractures can be missed and the treatment for coracoid process fractures is still controversial. The case presented here is of an isolated coracoid process fracture which was treated surgically. CASE REPORT: A 15-years old male presented after 4 days of injury complaining of persistent pain in the right shoulder following a jerk during bowling. Physical examination revealed tenderness in the left shoulder. There was pain on abduction and external rotation. The neurovascular examinat

Avulsion fracture of the coracoid process in a patient with chronic anterior shoulder instability treated with the Latarjet procedure: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder dislocations can cause acute and chronic instabilities that need to be addressed in order to restore joint functioning. The transfer of the coracoid process has become a feasible surgical procedure in patients with shoulder instability. Several concomitant injuries after recurrent dislocations have been described. CASE PRESENTATION: A 32-year-old German man presented to our department with a history of recurrent shoulder dislocations. He was diagnosed with an avulsion fracture of the coracoid process and dislocation of an osseous piece with attachment to the conjoined t

Bone tunnel placement influences shear stresses at the coracoid process after coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction: a finite element study and radiological analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Coracoid fractures after arthroscopic treatment of acromioclavicular (AC) joint separations lead to poor clinical outcomes. In this study, different configurations of bone tunnels in the lateral clavicle and coracoid were examined concerning the amount of stress induced in the coracoid. METHODS: An authentic 3D finite element model of an ac joint was established. Three 2.4 mm bone tunnels were inserted in the lateral clavicle, which were situated above, medially and laterally of the coracoid. Then, two 2.4 mm bone tunnels were inserted in the latter, each simulating a proximal a

Preferred screw placement area identified by imaging based quadrant and heatmap analysis for long screw fixation in Ogawa I coracoid process fractures.

Ogawa I coracoid process fractures are relatively rare. Surgical fixation requires precise determination of the screw length and direction to avoid iatrogenic injuries. Identifying the preferred screw placement area (PSPA) through imaging techniques is crucial for enhancing surgical safety and stability. This study utilized shoulder computed tomography (CT) data from 100 adult patients, employing three-dimensional (3D) modelling and simulated surgeries to analyze the PSPA for long screw fixation in Ogawa I coracoid process fractures. Scapular Y-view two-dimensional (2D) fluoroscopic images wer
