PURPOSE: To illustrate the hypothesis that corneal vertex centration is superior to entrance pupil centration when guiding an ablation by wavefront.
METHODS: In one case example of therapeutic retreatment for treatment zone decentration after primary radial keratotomy (RK) centered on the entrance pupil (line of sight), both a whole-eye wavefront-guided ablation profile (WASCA data) and a topography-guided ablation profile (Atlas data) were generated using the CRS-Master (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and compared. The patient had a large vertical angle kappa. Corneal topography demonstrated that the z

We analyze theoretically, by means of both computer simulations and laboratory experiments, the limitations of correcting aberrations with ideal customized contact lenses. Four experiments are presented: In the first one, we have analyzed the limitations of a static correction on the dynamic wavefront. In the second one, we studied the rotations of a contact lens on the eye using an optical method. The third one researched the limitations of the wavefront correction, focusing on a group of normal and highly aberrated eyes, when the correction suffers from a permanent rotation or translation. T

BACKGROUND: Pterygium is a common disorder of the ocular surface. It causes vision impairment -usually irregular type astigmatism- through different mechanisms. In addition, it is believed that surgical excision of the pterygium improves visual problems. The appropriate method to investigate irregular astigmatism is using wavefront analysis. This study was aimed to evaluate wavefront analysis pre and post pterygium surgery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was performed on 32 patients who underwent surgical excision of pterygium in January 2012. Data were recorded and compared after pre and

The importance of quality of vision (QOV) along with quality of life (QOL) in medicine has been recently widely recognized. We have conducted studies to quantitatively analyze factors related to QOV. Irregular astigmatism can be a significant obstacle for achieving satisfactory QOV. Videokeratography data were broken down using Fourier harmonic series analysis into spherical power, regular astigmatism (second harmonic component, n = 2), asymmetry (n = 1), and higher order irregularity (n > or = 3). The irregular astigmatism component calculated by the Fourier analysis significantly correlated

In certain ocular conditions, such as in eyes with keratoconus or after corneal laser surgery, Higher Order Aberrations (HOAs) may be dramatically elevated. Accurately recording interpretable wavefronts in such highly aberrated eyes using Shack-Hartmann sensor is a challenging task. While there are studies that have applied deep neural networks to Shack-Hartmann wavefront reconstructions, they have been limited to low resolution and small dynamic range cases. In this study, we introduce a multi-task learning scheme for High-Resolution and High Dynamic Range Shack-Hartmann wavefront reconstruct
