Parent couples' participation in speech-language therapy for school-age children with autism spectrum disorder in the United States.

This study examined parent couples' participation in and satisfaction with speech-language therapy for school-age children with autism spectrum disorder in the United States. Responses from 40 father-mother couples (n = 80 parents) were examined across therapy components (i.e. parent-therapist communication, assessment, planning, and intervention). Descriptive frequencies, chi-square tests, intraclass correlations, and dyadic multilevel modeling were used to examine participation across fathers and mothers and within parent couples. Compared to mothers, fathers communicated less with therapist

Exploring the influence of the attachment organizations of novice therapists on their delivery of emotionally focused therapy for couples.

Clinicians' own internal resources for understanding relationships--that is, their attachment organizations--have been found to influence the process and outcome of treatment. The current study addressed whether the attachment organizations of novice couple and family therapists were associated with couples' experiences of their therapists, therapeutic alliance, session impact, and emotionally focused couple therapy (EFT) fidelity (i.e., especially as related to targeting and working with attachment needs and overt and underlying emotions). Novice couple and family therapists delivered EFT, an

Low-level sex chromosome mosaicism in female partners of couples undergoing ICSI therapy does not significantly affect treatment outcome.

BACKGROUND: There is an increased rate of chromosomal anomalies, in particular low-level sex chromosome mosaicism, in the female partners of couples undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). METHODS: Among 811 consecutive couples presenting for pre-ICSI chromosome analysis, chromosomal abnormalities were detected in 54 individuals, of which 26 were low-level sex chromosome mosaicism in the females. Attention was focused on the treatment course and outcome of ICSI in 20 couples with low-level sex chromosome mosaicism in the females actually embarking on ICSI treatment (group I, n = 3

Two Faces of the Right Ventricle in Fabry Cardiomyopathy: Septal-Coupled and Atrial-Coupled Strain Patterns and Their Differential Associations with Enzyme Replacement Therapy.

Right ventricular global longitudinal strain (RVGLS) and right ventricular free-wall longitudinal strain (RVFWLS) are both used to assess right ventricular involvement, but they include different myocardial components. We examined their cross-sectional correlates and longitudinal changes associated with enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) in 100 patients with genetically confirmed Fabry disease, including 69 with serial echocardiography. RVGLS was independently associated with left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS; standardized β = 0.466, p < 0.001) and interventricular septal thickn

ATP-Dependent Chromatin Remodeler CSB Couples DNA Repair Pathways to Transcription with Implications for Cockayne Syndrome and Cancer Therapy.

Efficient DNA lesion repair is crucial for cell survival, especially within actively transcribed DNA regions that contain essential genetic information. Additionally, DNA breaks in regions of active transcription are prone to generating insertions and deletions, which are hallmark features of cancer genomes. Cockayne syndrome protein B (CSB) is the sole ATP-dependent chromatin remodeler that is essential for coupling DNA repair pathways with transcription, leading to more efficient DNA repair in regions of active transcription. CSB is best known for its essential function in transcription-coup

Effectiveness of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy in a Multidisciplinary Veterans Health Care Setting.

Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) is an empirically validated treatment for relationship distress with well-established efficacy. However, there is an increased need to understand its effectiveness and applicability in real-life clinical environments, including hospital and training clinics, and across varying therapist training backgrounds. Our clinical training program in a multidisciplinary US Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital follows a standardized protocol of Sue Johnson's externship in EFCT (ICEEFT 2023; Johnson 2019). Healthcare professional trainees complete a 6-month EFCT didacti

Chemical Reactions, Drowning Swimmers, Owner's Manuals: The Power of Metaphors in Couple Therapy.

Over many years of working with couples, I have found that certain metaphors-drawn from images, films, stories, jokes, song lyrics, research findings, or events in my life-can be especially effective and memorable in clarifying and normalizing the diverse experiences of distressed couples. By likening events in therapy to more familiar situations, I have been able to strengthen the therapeutic alliance in a setting that otherwise might seem foreign, distressing, and even threatening. More broadly, metaphors have enriched my therapeutic repertoire, enabling me to help couples experience each ot

Feasibility of a Cognitive-Behavioral Couple Therapy Intervention for Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder.

Female sexual interest/arousal disorder (SIAD) is strongly influenced by interpersonal factors; however, there are no empirically-supported, couple-based sex therapy interventions for this disorder. This pre-registered study tested the feasibility of a cognitive-behavioral couple therapy (CBCT) intervention for SIAD. A sample of 19 couples in which a female partner was diagnosed with SIAD completed a 16-session CBCT intervention delivered online by therapists with PhD-level training in clinical psychology. Women with SIAD (Mage = 43.47, SD = 12.76) and their partners (Mage = 43.74, SD = 11.68)

Cardiopulmonary coupling predictors of blood pressure response to positive airway pressure therapy.

RATIONALE: The effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment on reducing cardiovascular disease risk in sleep apnea subjects remains inconclusive. It is plausible that pathological respiratory chemoreflex activation (high loop gain) is a predictive signal biomarker. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether narrow band (e-LFCNB%) metric derived from cardiopulmonary coupling analysis is related with blood pressure reduction after CPAP. METHODS: A secondary analysis of the Apnea Positive Pressure Long-term Efficacy Study (APPLES). The elevated low frequency coupling - narrow band (e-LFC

Physical Couple and Family Violence Among Clients Seeking Therapy: Identifiers and Predictors.

INTRODUCTION: Couple violence (CV) affects many, and the consequences of those actions are grave, not only for the individual suffering at the hand of the perpetrator but also for the other persons in the family. Violence often happens among more than just the adults within one family. Even if CV has been thoroughly investigated in the general population very few studies have investigated this objective on a clinical sample, and none of these have included family violence. AIM: This article identifies and describes the group of clients that have issues of physical couple and family violence.

Premature termination in couple therapy with veterans: definitions and prediction of long-term outcomes.

Premature termination (PT) has been identified as widespread in individual, family, and couple therapy. Unfortunately, research on PT utilizes numerous definitions of PT without providing guidance on which definition may be most clinically useful. The current study investigated seven definitions of PT (three based on therapist ratings and four based on quantitative measures) utilizing a sample of 177 couples seeking treatment at two Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. Results indicated that PT occurred in 50-80% of couples; however, agreement between the definitions of PT was gener

Emotion Regulation and Relationship Satisfaction in Couple Therapy: What Happens Across Sessions?

While previous studies have demonstrated significant associations between partners' emotion regulation (ER) and overall well-being, very few studies provide knowledge on ER in clinical couples, especially across couple therapy sessions. The sample consisted of 174 mixed-sex couples, predominantly white and from the western region of the United States, who attended at least the initial eight sessions of couple therapy. The current study examined the intra- and inter-personal effects of ER difficulties (i.e., lack of awareness, nonacceptance, limited strategies, and impulsivity) on the trajector

Investigating the rates of change in depressive symptoms for adults in individual, couple, and family therapy.

While individual therapy is a common treatment for depressive symptoms, adults with depressive symptoms also engage in couple and family therapy. To date, no studies have fully compared the effectiveness of these three therapy models in a naturalistic clinical setting. This study investigates the extent that the rates of changes in depressive symptoms across 16 sessions of treatment differ across individual, couple, and family therapy. We analyzed clinical data from the Marriage and Family Therapy Practice Research Network (MFT-PRN; Johnson et al., 2016), which is clinical data from clinics ac

Targeted AAV gene therapy for neuroblastoma via direct capsid-antibody coupling.

Adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors are widely used in gene therapy for their versatility and safety, but their broad tropism limits cell-specific applications such as targeting primary or metastatic tumor cells. To address this, we developed AAV-STITCH, a strategy using SpyTag technology to covalently attach polypeptides to the AAV capsid. This allows precise, dose-dependent coupling of an anti-GD2 scFv to a galactose-binding-deficient AAV9-W503A capsid, redirecting tropism specifically to GD2-expressing neuroblastoma (NB) cells. In pseudometastatic xenograft mouse models, AAV-STITCHαGD2 sel

Family and couple integrated cognitive-behavioural therapy for adults with OCD: A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Integrating family into the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is standard in pediatric populations; however, in adult populations, patients are typically treated independent of their family. Yet, there is compelling evidence to suggest that family members exacerbate OCD symptoms, and thus there is a strong rationale for integrating family members into the treatment of adult OCD. The present meta-analysis examined whether family treatment is effective for OCD in adult populations as well as moderators of treatment outcome. METHODS: Fifteen studies were reviewed (16 i

Changes in dyadic communication during and after integrative and traditional behavioral couple therapy.

To examine changes in dyadic communication, as well as links between communication and long-term relationship outcomes, 134 distressed couples randomly assigned to either Traditional Behavioral Couple Therapy (TBCT; Jacobson & Margolin, 1979) or Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT; Jacobson & Christensen, 1998) were observed in video-recorded interactions. Observers rated discussions of relationship problems at 3 time points (pre-therapy, post-therapy, 2-year follow-up) and relationship outcomes (i.e., treatment response and relationship stability) were measured at a 5-year follow-up.

Live birth is the correct outcome for clinical trials evaluating therapy for the infertile couple.

Well-designed and -conducted clinical trials are needed to further advance the field for reproductive medicine. However, current reporting of outcomes of trials is ambiguous and disparate. In this review it is offered that the preferred outcome for clinical trials in reproductive medicine should be live birth. Multiple births should be listed, and it should be specified whether this is multiple births per couple or multiple births per conception. The unit of measure should be women (or couples) and not cycles. The duration of exposure should also be clearly identified (i.e., treatment was one

Changes in ventricular-arterial coupling during decongestive therapy in acute heart failure.

AIMS: Coupled arterial and left ventricular properties are poorly documented in acute heart failure. The aim of this prospective noninvasive study was to document early changes in ventricular-arterial coupling in patients with acutely decompensated HF (ADHF). METHODS AND RESULTS: We studied 19 patients hospitalized for ADHF (age 62 ± 15 years, NYHA class 3 or 4). Patients with shock and sustained arrhythmias were excluded. All the patients received intravenous loop diuretics, and none received intravenous vasodilators or inotropes. Ongoing chronic treatments were maintained. Echocardiography

A test of the dyadic associations between ineffective arguing, emotional distress, and violence perpetration and victimization among couples seeking therapy.

Researchers have tested associations between ineffective arguing and emotional distress among couples without relationship violence. Moreover, studies have demonstrated associations between physical violence perpetration and victimization in the aftermath of emotional distress. However, there is a paucity of research examining linkages between ineffective arguing, emotional distress, and physical violence perpetration or victimization. Dyadic data from 231 married, heterosexual couples seeking therapy were used to test a model examining pathways between ineffective arguing and physical violenc
