Postpartum depression (PPD) affects nearly one in five mothers, yet many cases remain undetected. This study demonstrates the value of a leakage-resistant, rigorously designed machine learning pipeline for early prediction using psychosocial data from 1,430 women during pregnancy. Concept-level feature harmonization addressed data artifacts, while repeated group-aware cross-validation, calibration, and recall-oriented thresholding ensured robust evaluation. Class imbalance was handled using weighting and SMOTE. Models showed strong performance (ROC-AUC: 0.762-0.801; PR-AUC: 0.400-0.490), with

OBJECTIVE: This umbrella review aimed to systematically evaluate and synthesize the evidence on risk factors associated with postpartum depression (PPD), assess the methodological quality and credibility of the existing meta-analyses, and identify high-priority targets for prevention and intervention.
METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Medicine up to March 2025 for systematic reviews and meta-analyses reporting on risk factors for PPD. Eligible studies were appraised using AMSTAR-2 and GRADE frameworks. Risk factors were categorized based

Background/Objectives: Postpartum depression (PPD) affects approximately 10-20% of women during and after pregnancy, posing significant risks to maternal health, infant development, and family dynamics. Identifying modifiable risk factors is essential for prevention. Emerging evidence suggests that vitamin D, a neuroactive steroid hormone involved in neurotransmitter synthesis, neuroinflammation regulation, and calcium homeostasis, may play a protective role against mood disorders, including PPD. Methods: The search was conducted through a comprehensive search of the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression is a significant mental health condition affecting an estimated 7% to 20% of women, with higher rates among individuals with increased risk factors. Most research on postpartum depression has focused on mothers, with less recognition of the mental health changes experienced by their partners. Research suggests almost 20% of partners may experience postpartum depression, yet our understanding is limited. An enhanced understanding of postpartum depression in a birthing person's partner is critical, given the mental and physical health sequelae associated with de

INTRODUCTION: Women are at a high risk of recurrence of depression in the postpartum period. Given the circumscribed duration of the risk period and knowledge of its triggers, postpartum depression should be easily preventable. However, prophylactic drug studies have reported contradictory findings partly due to the heterogeneity of the disorder. Currently, there are no studies on the efficacy of psychotherapy in the prevention of postpartum depression in women with major depressive or bipolar disorder.
AREAS COVERED: This review evaluates the results of controlled medication and psychotherap

Postpartum depression is a debilitating mental disorder with a high prevalence, usually related with a past psychiatric history of major depressive disorder, postpartum depression, bipolar disorder, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and perinatal depressive symptoms during gestation. However, the existing literature does not sufficiently elucidate the pathophysiology of this clinical entity which appears in such a crucial period of woman's life. This review aims to search the available data regarding the involvement of immunological and autoimmune mechanisms in its onset. A literature review was co

Health supervision is a privileged opportunity to walk along with the new families during their transition to parenthood. This period is challenging for both mother and father, and there is the potential danger that demand surpasses the existing resources of the family. This imbalance may lead to mothers and fathers to develop depressive symptomatology. Postpartum depression may affect one to two out of ten men, and maternal depression is a major risk factor for developing it. The postpartum depression in the father impact all the family members, being the child development, the bonding, and t

BACKGROUND: Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) is commonly prescribed to women immediately postpartum due to its efficacy, convenience and lack of estrogen. It is unclear whether administering a progestin injection can affect the course of postpartum depression (PPD), which some suspect to be influenced by hormonal changes. In this retrospective study, the objective was to determine whether DMPA administered immediately postpartum influences the development of PPD.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective review of a total of 404 charts was conducted of clinic patients who were scheduled for 6-wee

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major depressive disorder that most often emerges within 6 to 12 weeks of delivery, but can happen any time up to 1 year after birth. In developed countries, the incidence of postnatal depression is about 10-15% in adult women depending upon the diagnostic criteria, timing of screening and screening instruments used. Mothers with depressive symptoms have been found to have more complex behavioral contacts with their children; this situation can damage family relationships, and even leads to infanticide. Various pathophysiologies are proposed for postpartum depr

OBJECTIVE: To compare weight loss after birth in women who took the antidepressants nortriptyline or sertraline or placebo in 2 clinical studies designed to prevent recurrent postpartum major depression.
METHOD: Data were collected from 1995 to 2001. All subjects had at least 1 prior episode of Research Diagnostic Criteria- or DSM-IV-defined major depressive disorder. Data on weight were available for 467 weeks from 60 women who were weighed 8 times from 2 to 17 weeks postpartum. The dependent measures were weight at weeks 11 and 17 and weight change from weeks 2 to 17 postpartum.

PURPOSE: Perinatal health outcomes for Hispanic women are associated with acculturation. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between acculturation levels and postpartum depressive symptomatology and diagnosed postpartum depression among Hispanic subgroups.
STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: The Postpartum Depression Screening Scale and the Short Acculturation Scale were used in the two phases of data collection. Phase 1 and 2 samples consisted of 377 and 150 Hispanic mothers, respectively. Puerto Rican mothers showed higher levels of acculturation than Mexican and other Hispanic

Postpartum depression is a common and treatable clinical syndrome which effects up to fifty percent of all women and which can best be considered as a triad of disorders. Postpartum blues, postpartum affective disorders or major depressions, and postpartum psychosis have distinct symptoms with corresponding implications for social work interventions and treatment strategies. The role of prevention can be pivotal in terms of reducing negative impacts of psychological problems after birth and minimizing adverse consequences for the new baby and all family members.

Postpartum depression is a frequent complication of childbirth. Postpartum depression is associated with disruptions in interpersonal relationships, and the puerperium is a period of major role transition. In contrast to other subtypes of depression, however, postpartum depression often is not treated with medication, which is relatively contraindicated for women who are breastfeeding. Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) focuses specifically on the effects of depression on interpersonal functioning; this focus renders IPT a potentially useful psychosocial treatment for postpartum depression. The relationship between different variables was studied related to pregnancy, labor, puerperium, newborn and breast-feeding with the development of a depressive disorders during pregnancy, in a sample of 125 pregnant women. No relationship it's found with the presence of disease during the gestation period, except urinary tract infection. The same happens with other variable of labor, puerperium and newborn, Nevertheless, the major stress situations (urgent cesarean section, use of anesthesia during labor, diseases of the newborn, etc.) systematically present a higher incidence of depression.

PURPOSE: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common mental disorder, yet its pathogenesis remains incompletely understood. This study compared peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) transcriptomes across three cohorts-PPD, major depressive disorder (MDD), and healthy postpartum control (HPC)-to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying PPD and identify features that distinguish it from non-postpartum depression.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 47 participants were recruited, including 11 with PPD, 16 HPC, and 20 with MDD. PBMCs were collected for transcriptome sequencing. Differentially e

OBJECTIVE: To assess the postpartum depression (PPD) risk in women with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and moderators.
METHODS: We identified observational studies of PPD rates in women with versus without PPH in Embase/Medline/PsychInfo/Cinhail in 09/2022. Study quality was evaluated using the Newcastle-Ottawa-Scale. Our primary outcome was the odds ratio (OR, 95% confidence intervals [95%CI]) of PPD in women with versus without PPH. Meta-regression analyses included the effects of age, body mass index, marital status, education, history of depression/anxiety, preeclampsia, antenatal anemia and

The prevalence of postpartum depression is approximately 13%. Postpartum depression is associated with a higher maternal morbidity and mortality, and also with pervasive effects on the emotional, cognitive and behavioral development of the child. The aim of our study was to identify socio-demographic, psychosocial and obstetrical risk factors of postpartum depression in a middle class community sample, using a prospective design. We enrolled consecutively 312 pregnant outpatients in a single maternity unit. The first assessment was conducted between 32 and 41 weeks gestation, and a second time

Background/objective: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a significant public health issue affecting about 19% of mothers globally. It has well-documented impacts on maternal well-being, mother-infant relationships, and child developmental outcomes. At the same time, the level of vitamin D deficiency in women of reproductive age is very high (affecting 60-87 percent of pregnant women globally). The review aims to synthesize current evidence and highlight priority research areas to improve maternal mental health outcomes. Methods: A systematic literature search of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar
