Evolving Techniques and Indications of Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty.

Endothelial keratoplasty has replaced traditional penetrating keratoplasty for the treatment of corneal endothelial dysfunction. It offers faster, more predictable, stable visual recovery and low rejection rates while the surgery itself is less invasive. Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is currently the gold standard for the treatment of Fuchs endothelial dystrophy, bullous keratopathy, and corneal edema after cataract surgery. Its favorable long-term outcomes are increasingly reported by large study groups. This review summarizes the current literature on new DMEK techniques,

Possible Role of Descemet-Stroma Interface for Descemet's Membrane Detachment after Penetrating Keratoplasty.

PURPOSE: To report two cases of spontaneous Descemet's membrane detachment (DMD) and dehiscence following penetrating keratoplasty (PK). CASE REPORTS: Spontaneous DMD or Descemet's membrane (DM) dehiscence following PK is a rare occurrence. Here, we describe two cases of such an occurrence following PK arising from the graft-host interface. A possible causative relation between DMD/dehiscence and DM-stromal interface attachment is suggested. CONCLUSION: DMD and dehiscence after PK can be explained by the peripheral thinning of DM and possible changes to the recently characterized anchoring z

[Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK): Analysis of a variation in Descemet's endothelial graft preparation].

INTRODUCTION: Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) can replace just the corneal endothelium and respect the natural corneal anatomy. Currently, the technique of endothelial graft preparation remains manual and non-standardized. PURPOSE: To report anatomic and functional results after DMEK, and compare two techniques of graft preparation. METHODS: Single-center retrospective study, including 64 eyes of 64 patients undergoing DMEK, from September 2014 to February 2016 at Clermont-Ferrand University Medical Center. The "classic" preparation was used in 44 patients (group 1) and t
