Diabetic myonecrosis, also referred to as diabetic muscle infarction, is a rare complication of uncontrolled diabetes that is characterized by spontaneous ischemia of muscle tissues, which can lead to severe pain. This condition can occur in type 1 and type 2 diabetics, most often involving the thigh or calf muscles, with the majority of literature being case reports with a few systematic reviews due to its rarity. We present a case of a 41-year-old male with severely uncontrolled type 2 diabetes and three weeks of worsening left calf pain, elevated inflammatory markers, and myonecrosis on MRI

Diabetes mellitus is associated with a variety of musculoskeletal (MSK) manifestations affecting the hand, which can significantly affect a patient's quality of life. While a great deal of attention is paid to the chronic microvascular complications of diabetes, the MSK complications are often ignored in clinical practice. It is important to diagnose them as their presence has been found to correlate with chronic microvascular complications of diabetes especially retinopathy. We describe a case of a young male with long-standing type 1 diabetes mellitus and chronic microvascular complications,

BACKGROUND: Liver disease in diabetes is common and is frequently the result of hepatic steatosis. Diabetic hepatosclerosis is a relatively recent description of sinusoidal fibrosis, without steatosis, observed in liver biopsies of people with diabetes presenting with cholestasis. Its association with other microvascular complications suggests it is a form of hepatic diabetic microangiopathy.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 50-year-old woman with longstanding Type 1 diabetes, complicated by nephropathy resulting in cadaveric renal transplant, retinopathy, gastroparesis and neuropathy wit

The paper reviews the results of a ten-year follow up conducted in 140 diabetic patients at the Ophthalmology Clinic in Novi Sad. We analysed the number of the cases and ratios between diabetic retinopathy and other complications in eyes and other organs. Apart from retinopathy among eye diseases the most frequent was hypertonic fundus in 20%, cataract in 17% of the eyes and occlusive conditions in the retinal blood vessels in 2.6%. In the whole group only 8% of the examined eyes had no changes. Complications develop in 70% of diabetics with retinopathy and 48% of those without retinopathy. Ne

Diabetes mellitus may affect the cornea at various levels. Ocular surface changes and dry eye had been studied. Researchers are concerned that medical treatment of diabetes or retinal complications may result in endothelial damage and cell loss. This report summarizes the possibility of endothelial cell loss in diabetic patients. A decrease in endothelial cell density (ECD) in diabetic patients has been reported. In addition, corneal thickness may increase in diabetic patients. Significant endothelial cell loss has been demonstrated in long-term disease and in cases of poor metabolic control.

OBJECTIVE: [corrected] To test the hypothesis that an early diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) could avoid some diabetes-related complications.
STUDY DESIGN: We compared the rates of pregnancy complications commonly related to diabetes between 189 (later screening group) and 235 (earlier screening group) women with GDM diagnosed before and after adding an universal glucose tolerance screening performed in the first antenatal visit to the traditional screening performed at 24-28 weeks of gestation.
RESULTS: Women in the later screening group were likely to have hydramnios (12.7

Glutathione (GSH), the most abundant intracellular antioxidant, plays a central role in maintaining redox homeostasis, regulating immune responses, and protecting cellular integrity. In chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), GSH deficiency is a consistent hallmark, contributing to oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and progressive organ damage. This review critically examines the efficacy and safety of GSH supplementation and precursor strategies, synthesizing evidence across mechanistic studies, clinical trials, and translational research. In T2DM, G

OBJECTIVES: To assess risk factors and incidence of diabetes complications in women with type 1 diabetes (T1D) based on parity.
RESEARCH DESIGN/METHODS: Data were collected from women (16-40 years old) in the T1D Exchange completing pregnancy/childbirth questionnaires during 2011-2013 and 2016-2018. Incidence of risk factors and diabetes complications were compared between women with a first pregnancy at/within 1-year of enrollment (n = 28) and never pregnant women by year 5 (n = 469).
RESULTS: There was a trend for lower HbA1c (adjusted p = .14) and higher rates of overweight/obesity, trigl

AIM: To assess the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in type 1 diabetes, and its age-related association with diabetes complications.
METHODS: Australian National Diabetes Information Audit and Benchmarking (ANDIAB) was a well-established quality audit programme. It provided cross-sectional data on people attending specialist diabetes services across Australia. We determined the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (WHO criteria) in adults with type 1 diabetes and its associations with diabetes complications across age groups.
RESULTS: Metabolic syndrome prevalence was 30% in 2120 adults with typ
