The combined effects of dietary protein and fat on prolactin in female rats.

A 3 X 3 factorial experiment was conducted to examine how protein content (8, 16 and 32% of kcals from casein) and fat content (12, 24 and 48% of kcals from corn oil) interact to influence prolactin homeostasis in female rats. Weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to each of nine diets fed ad libitum. Dietary fat had no effect on the time of vaginal opening although first estrus occurred slightly earlier with high fat diets (P less than 0.05). Rats fed diets with protein at 8% of kcal showed a 2-wk delay in vaginal opening and first estrus. After 18-20 wk of feeding, serum and pituitary p

Interrelation among dietary energy and fat intakes, maternal body fatness, and milk total lipid in humans.

The relationship between maternal dietary intakes of energy or fat maternal body composition and the milk fat concentration is an important element in understanding the role of breast-milk in infant nutrition. In most studies in both developing and developed countries, no relation between maternal energy intake and milk fat content was observed. In only one published study, in which maternal fat intake comprised a very low 5% of calories, was a short term reduction in milk lipid observed in some subjects. On the other hand, a positive relation between maternal fatness and milk fat is evident i

Effect of dietary fats rich in lauric, myristic, palmitic, oleic or linoleic acid on plasma, hepatic and biliary lipids in cholesterol-fed hamsters.

Effects of different dietary fats on plasma, hepatic and biliary lipids were determined in male golden Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) fed on purified diets for 7 weeks. Diets were made by blending different fats containing characteristic fatty acids: butter (14:0 + 16:0), palm stearin (16:0), coconut oil (12:0 + 14:0), rapeseed oil (18:1), olive oil (18:1) and sunflowerseed oil (18:2). In all diets except the sunflowerseed oil diet dietary 18:2 was held constant at 2% energy. Total fat supplied 12% of energy and cholesterol was added at 4 g/kg diet. Use of starch-based fat replacers in foods as a strategy to reduce dietary intake of fat and risk of metabolic diseases.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has emerged as one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Elevated blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein levels are crucial risk factors that contribute to the development of CVD and other metabolic diseases. Dietary fat is believed to be the key factor in modulating circulating cholesterol levels. Thus, reducing dietary intake of fat appears to be an effective strategy to reduce the risk of heart disease. Also, excessive intake of fat and high-calorie foods is also related to the development of obesity, which contributes to the development of CVD. There

Cecal microbiota of broilers responds similarly to black soldier fly larvae fat and conventional dietary fat sources.

This study aimed to compare the effects of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae (BSFL) fat with those of dietary fats commonly used in broiler chicken nutrition on gut pH and cecal microbiome. A total of 800 one-day-old male Ross 308 chicks were randomly assigned to eight dietary groups, with each group consisting of 10 replicate pens of 10 birds each fed for 35 days. The study design was as follows: the basal diet was enriched with various dietary fats as the sole source of fat, including BSFL fat (as the reference group), soybean oil (SO), rapeseed oil (RO), palm oil (PO), palm kerne

The influence of dietary structures composed of different fat globule interfaces on lipid metabolism in mice with a high-fat diet.

The composition of the fat globule interface significantly affects the lipid metabolism in infants. To investigate the effects of dietary structures with different fat globule interface compositions on lipid metabolism in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD), mice were fed a diet supplemented with milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), milk polar lipid (MPL), and milk protein concentrate (MPC) from 21 to 42 days after birth, and a high-fat diet from 42 to 63 days after birth. The results showed that the three intervention groups improved the effects of HFD on the body weight and organ indices of mice to

Effects of dietary soybean phosphatidylethanolamine on intestinal metabolism and microbiota in mice fed low-fat and high-fat diets.

Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is the second most abundant phospholipid in soybeans, which are widely used in the food industry as emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives, and other additives. High-fat diets are known to disrupt intestinal metabolism and cause microbial disorders, leading to metabolic and intestinal health issues. To elucidate the effects of PE on these high-fat diet-induced disorders, we innovatively explored the interaction between regional intestinal bile acids and microbiota, revealing that PE supplementation can mitigate high-fat diet-induced metabolic disorders. PE downreg

Changes in the expression pattern of genes affecting the growth and development of mammary tissue in pregnant Saanen goats in response to dietary fats.

The period from mid-pregnancy to term is a pivotal phase for the growth and development of the mammary glands. Diets containing unsaturated fat may also influence this process. This study examined the effects of saturated and unsaturated fat supplements on mammary gland growth in Saanen goats. Forty goats were divided into four groups: C- (negative control, no added fat), C+ (positive control, saturated palm oil), SB (Omega-6, roasted soybean), and FS (Omega-3, extruded flaxseed). Blood parameters, histological data, and the expression of genes related to mammary tissue growth and apoptosis we

Improvement of the omega 3 index of healthy subjects does not alter the effects of dietary saturated fats or n-6PUFA on LDL profiles.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Dietary fat composition is known to modulate circulating lipid and lipoprotein levels. Although supplementation with long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCn-3PUFA) has been shown to reduce plasma triglyceride levels, the effect of the interactions between LCn-3PUFA and the major dietary fats consumed has not been previously investigated. METHODS: In a randomized controlled parallel design clinical intervention, we examined the effect of diets rich in either saturated fatty acids (SFA) or omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-6PUFA) on plasma lipid levels and

The influence of dietary fat and intestinal pH on calcium bioaccessibility: an in vitro study.

In vivo studies measuring true fractional calcium (Ca) absorption have shown that dietary fat is a significant predictor of absorption and is influenced by luminal pH levels. However, whether changes in Ca bioaccessibility (CaB) can explain the effects on absorption has not been examined. In the current study, we examined two high fat diets enriched in either monounsaturated fatty acids or saturated fatty acids (SFA), and a low-fat diet (LFD), each with 50 mg Ca, and measured CaB at different intestinal regions during normal acidic or higher (pH = 7) gastrointestinal conditions using an in vit
