Meals that heal: a randomized controlled trial testing the feasibility of commercial meal delivery as a convenient dietary intervention for depression.

UNLABELLED: Minimally processed dietary interventions have been associated with reductions in depressive symptoms; however, the effort required to plan, shop for, and prepare minimally processed foods may limit adherence. Providing convenient access to minimally processed meals through commercial delivery services may reduce these barriers and potentially enhance intervention impact. This pilot randomized study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of this novel approach through a two-week dietary intervention among adults with moderate to moderately severe de

Study two aimed to report dietetic provision for adults with coeliac disease. METHODS: A cross-sectional online survey was completed by 722 adults with coeliac disease, including validated dietary adherence, health literacy and quality-of-life questionnaires. An online and paper survey designed to capture the provision

The dietary intake and nutritional status of military veterans: a systematic literature review.

Military veterans (ex-serving members of the Armed Services) experience unique physical and mental health challenges, with diet playing a critical role in chronic disease management and well-being. This review aimed to evaluate veterans' dietary intake against nutrient reference values (NRV) relevant to age and sex. A systematic search of CINAHL, MedLine, Scopus, PubMed and AMED (January 2024, updated March 2025) identified 1268 records; thirty-three studies (n 654 323) met inclusion criteria. Eligible designs included cross-sectional, cohort, quasi-experimental and randomised controlled trial

Outcome of sub-total thyroidectomy for thyrotoxicosis in Iceland and Northeast Scotland.

A comparative study of the outcome of surgical treatment for thyrotoxicosis was carried out in two countries with dissimilar dietary iodine levels. In the area with a high iodine level (Iceland) the prevalence of post-operative hypothyroidism was five times lower, but recurrent hyperthyroidism was five times higher, than in the area with lower iodine levels (northeast Scotland). The total morbidity reached comparable levels in the two samples. The prevalence of positive thyroid antibody tests and serum thyrotrophin levels was lower and the functional capacity of the thyroid remnant higher in t

Perspectives on dietary adherence among women with inborn errors of metabolism.

Adherence to highly restrictive diets is critical for women of childbearing age who have inborn errors of metabolism such as phenylketonuria. The purpose of this study was to explore attitudes about diet, barriers to and facilitators of dietary adherence, and experiences with the health care system in promoting dietary adherence among adolescent and adult women with inborn errors of metabolism to identify policy-level interventions to improve adherence. We analyzed the results of four focus groups including a total of 19 women between the ages of 12 and 52 years with phenylketonuria, methylmal

Nutritional and Obstetric Determinant of Iron Deficiency Anemia among Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Care Services in Public Health Hospitals in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire): A Cross-Sectional Study.

Poorly diversified and micronutrient-deficient dietary intakes during pregnancy remain one of the major causes of nutritional anemia in developing countries. However, data on diet and its relation to anemia in pregnant women in Côte d'Ivoire are scarce. The objective of this study was to determine prevalence and iron deficiency anemia associated factors in pregnant women in Abidjan. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 389 pregnant women attending antenatal care services at public health hospitals in Abidjan. Sociodemographic, obstetrical, and dietary data were collected. Blood samples

Pediatric nutrition assessment: identifying children at risk.

Nutrition services are important in the prevention of disabilities as well as in the treatment and/or habilitation of children with chronic illness. Level 1 nutrition care requires some basic knowledge of nutrition to screen for nutritional risk factors, knowledge of and access to referral systems for children identified to be at risk, and ability to use general nutrition education materials. Level 2 involves individualized nutrition assessment and intervention for problems such as anemia, chronic constipation, low- or high-calorie diets, feeding problems, and growth monitoring. Level 3 nutrit

Diet, other lifestyle factors and HDL cholesterol in a population of Australian male service recruits.

The association between dietary and other factors and plasma high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentration was examined cross-sectionally and longitudinally in a sample (n = 530) of Australian male service recruits (mean age 21 years) involved in a nine-week induction training program. The findings suggest that diet may make an independent contribution to HDL cholesterol, equal in importance to alcohol, smoking, fitness and obesity--previously identified as being important. Water and carbohydrate consumption showed a negative cross-sectional association with HDL cholesterol on multi

[Primary prevention from the viewpoint of social medicine--examples of prevention projects].

Life style factors play an essential role in etiology and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases; therefore, from a public health point of view, primary preventive measures are of especial importance. Health reports in the form of specific health reports (such as the Viennese Men's Health Report, the Lower Austrian Public Health Report) represent an important foundation for the matter of health promoting projects. In Austria, various preventive projects were suggested and successfully carried out because of these reports. Furthermore, the introduction of the WEBS organisation (scientific dietary

Nutritional care in pregnancy: the patient's view. I. Amount, type, and sources of dietary advice and treatment.

Interviews were conducted with ninety-two pregnant women who attended an out-patient clinic of a major obstetrical teaching hospital. All were between thirty-four and thirty-eight weeks pregnant when interviewed. Information was obtained on the amount, type, and sources of professional dietary advice; current dietary treatments; and the patterns and nature of the patients' contacts with dietitian. The dietitian was the major source of prenatal dietary advice. Only one-third of subjects received additional advice from other professionals, usually the nurse. Physicians were rarely identified as

How mental health occupational therapists address issues of diet with their clients: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Poor diet is a contributing factor to the high rates of obesity and related comorbidities in people with severe mental illness, and dietary change is a key treatment strategy. Providing healthy lifestyle interventions is a recognised role for occupational therapists. However, the existing literature fails to elucidate boundaries of this role. To begin to address this gap in the literature, this study explored the attitudes, actions and beliefs of mental health occupational therapists about providing diet-related interventions. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted wit

Nutrition survey of schoolchildren in greater Winnipeg. II. Dietary intake and biochemical assessment.

The total dietary intake of energy and of individual nutrients of 99 grades 3 and 6 children from 10 greater Winnipeg shcools were generally comparable to those reported by Nutrition Canada for the Manitoba and national samples, although the percentile distributions of total caloric intake and dietary intake of vitamin A for the Winnipeg children tended to be lower. Dietary intakes of HIV-infected adults in urban UK.

Maintaining a good nutritional status is important for immune health and for managing metabolic comorbidities in adults with HIV infection. Little is known about the dietary habits of adults living with HIV infection in the United Kingdom. The aims of this study were to characterise their dietary intakes, and to identify subgroups of patients who may require nutritional counselling and/or food support services. An observational study of adults attending a London HIV out-patient clinic who completed a demographics questionnaire and a structured 24 h diet recall interview was conducted. In all,
