A 68-year-old man was admitted to an intensive care unit after a suicidal ingestion of dimethoate with organophosphate poisoning. Despite temporary improvement, the patient's condition progressively deteriorated with the development of adult respiratory distress syndrome and acute renal failure. Hemodynamic measurements substantiated the evidence of non cardiogenic pulmonary edema, while renal indices the presence of acute tubular necrosis. Effect of carbon disulfide (CS2) on toxic action of 11 organophosphorus (OP) insecticides were examined by determining the plasma cholinesterase activity in mice. CS2 pretreatment potentiated the anticholinesterase action of parathion and EPN, but suppressed that of dimethoate and diazinon. Euseius concordis (Chant) is an important predatory mite found in citrus orchards. The toxicity of 19 pesticides used in citrus orchards on biological and population parameters of this mite was assessed.
