Health systems globally continue to struggle to translate health equity commitments into consistent day-to-day practice at the point of care. Although equity strategies are often articulated at national or system levels, frontline health care services frequently lack the governance structures, partnerships, operational tools, and learning environments needed to prioritize populations experiencing inequities amid competing clinical and organizational demands. This challenge is particularly visible in high-volume, resource-constrained settings. Early findings suggest that equity work becomes mor

Gender inequity is embedded in the organisation, financing, leadership, and everyday practice of health systems. It shapes who receives care, who provides it, who advances into decision-making roles, whose labour is undervalued, and whose safety is treated as negotiable. While health systems are often presented as neutral institutions, they frequently reproduce the gendered hierarchies of the societies in which they operate. This viewpoint argues that gender-transformative action should be treated as a core strategy for health system strengthening rather than as a peripheral equity concern. It

The global burden of Parkinson disease (PD) is rapidly shifting towards low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), which already account for 44% of all individuals with PD. Despite this trend, the populations of LMICs and other under-represented populations defined by ethnicity, sex, geography and minority groups within high-income countries remain largely excluded from PD research. The continuation of these disparities limits our knowledge of disease biology and restricts the applicability of advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment, increasing inequity in global health. Racial-ethnic diversity is lacking in psychedelic science. Efforts have been made to increase racial-ethnic representation among clinical trial participant populations, but much work remains. This column aims to describe this disparity, outline potential benefits of eliminating this disparity, and provide recommendations for achieving equity and justice within the research landscape of psychedelic treatments for mental disorders.

BACKGROUND: Equitable participation in clinical trials is essential for ensuring that research evidence is scientifically robust, ethically just and representative of the populations it is intended to serve. In Australia, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations remain underrepresented in clinical trials despite increasing national policy attention to equity and inclusion. This review synthesized empirical evidence and Australian policy and practice documents to examine factors influencing CALD participation in clinical trials.
OBJECTIVES: To synthesize evidence on CALD attitu

Although it is important to ensure that all individuals have access to physical activity (PA), members of equity-denied groups generally report lower levels of PA, placing these populations at even greater vulnerability for overall health and well-being. This scoping review was to provide an overview of the barriers and facilitators of PA among equity-denied groups, through an intersectional equity lens. This scoping review focused on equity-denied groups prioritized by Sport Canada—Black individuals, Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQ+, and newcomers. A total of 75 studies contributed to 81 findings

BACKGROUND: Efforts to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in healthcare have grown quickly in recent years, spurred by the broader calls to confront systemic racism and address structural inequities exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. While EDI initiatives have gained visibility across various healthcare domains, such as patient safety, quality improvement, and social innovation, there are questions about how deeply they engage with the systemic roots of inequity. The objective of this paper is to describe the development of a framework designed to guide healthcare organizations

Background: Inequitable access to clinical trials persists in blood cancers despite ongoing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts. Despite the critical role of clinical trials in improving survival and outcomes, recruitment remains suboptimal, limiting patient access to potentially life-saving therapies. Practical and scalable approaches are therefore needed to address the non-medical barriers that hinder patient readiness upstream of enrolment. Methods: Myeloma Canada led a national, multi-phase initiative using human-centred design (HCD) to operationalize EDI in clinical trials. Fol

Introduction: End-of-life (EOL) HIV cure-related research offers a unique opportunity to advance scientific discovery while honoring the values, dignity, and legacy of people with HIV. However, participation remains demographically skewed, mirroring long-standing inequities in who is informed, invited, and supported to take part. Synthesizing eight years of experience, published literature reviews, and community engagement from the University of California San Diego's Last Gift program, we propose strategies to embed justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (JEDIA) throughout t

Climate hazards are causing increasingly frequent and severe disasters. The populations most impacted by the health and social costs of disasters include language minorities, displaced individuals, and low-income communities. This commentary explores three key issues. First, climate hazards lead to displacement and increase vulnerability by disrupting housing, livelihoods, and access to care. Second, current emergency and disaster frameworks often overlook equity in communication, access to care, and recovery. Third, practical solutions can prioritize equity across mitigation, preparedness, re

This introductory article to the special issue "Social Impact Research" examines the extent to which research published in the Journal of Applied Psychology has addressed pressing social issues related to work and employment. Using BERTopic modeling on 5,865 empirical articles published from the journal's inception in 1917 through June 2024, we identified 99 topics organized into 25 higher order themes, five of which directly reflect social impact: workplace stress, health, and well-being; workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion; organizational justice, ethics, and legal issues; work and em

BACKGROUND: Persons with disabilities continue to experience profound and avoidable health inequities. Health professionals play a key role in addressing these inequities yet often lack the competencies and preparedness to provide equitable and rights-based care. To advance disability inclusion within health professions education, clarity is needed on which themes are currently represented in existing education and trainings. The objectives of this scoping review are 1) to describe how disability-related content has been incorporated into education and training for health professionals, and 2)

<p>Background: Crack-cocaine use is associated with severe physical and mental health consequences, including cardiac, pulmonary, and psychiatric conditions. It also heightens the risk of overdose and transmission of infectious diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Equity-deserving populations - more specifically, groups affected by socioeconomic marginalization, discrimination, and systemic inequities - are disproportionately impacted. In recent years, its rising prevalence in European cities has underscored crack-cocaine as a growing social and public health concern. This trend

BACKGROUND: Managing type 2 diabetes (T2D) requires ongoing attention to diet, physical activity, medication, and blood glucose monitoring. These cumulative demands can lead to diabetes distress, a common emotional strain that affects well-being, self-management, and clinical outcomes. Digital health interventions (DHIs) offer scalable, cost-effective support for both self-management and emotional well-being. However, many DHIs pay limited attention to the needs of underserved groups, who may experience higher distress, face additional barriers to engagement, and are often underrepresented in

OBJECTIVE: Under-representation of key population groups limits the generalizability, applicability, and equity of evidence generated by gynecologic oncology trials. Building on the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup Barcelona consensus, this initiative aimed to translate the principles of diversity into a structured, practice-oriented Code of Conduct spanning all phases of clinical research.
METHODS: As the third step in an iterative Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup consensus process, a Code of Conduct was developed and formally adopted at the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup Berlin Meeting. All 33 Gyn

The global health literature reflects the need to restructure systems that balance power, remove financial barriers, and ultimately enhance equity, but immediate strategies to enhance equity are often underappreciated, particularly with regard to navigating the publishing ecosystem. Our paper describes how researchers can navigate the publishing ecosystem to create greater equity within their author teams, including those related to communication, supporting junior investigators in building their writing and professional skills, selecting journals that prioritize equity, ensuring transparent r

Achieving health equity requires attention not only to healthcare access and the social determinants of health, but also to the governance capacity of institutions that shape health-related policies and legal frameworks. This study explores inclusive legal education as a potential upstream intervention for building health governance capacity, focusing on how barriers in legal professional training may indirectly connect to the health equity agenda. Through a secondary qualitative analysis of publicly available narrative texts and official documents concerning 14 Chinese legal professionals wit
