Feasibility and Preliminary Effects of the Renkli Adımlar Game- and Drama-Based Program for Preventing Peer Bullying and Promoting Empathy: A Pilot School-Level Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial.

Aim: This pilot school-level cluster-randomized controlled trial evaluated the feasibility and preliminary effects of the Renkli Adımlar (Colorful Steps) game- and drama-based intervention on bullying and victimization, with empathy assessed as a secondary outcome, among primary school students. Methods: A pretest-posttest pilot trial was conducted with 79 third- and fourth-grade students allocated to an intervention group (n = 40) or a control group (n = 39). The eight-week program included six 40-min sessions using educational games, creative drama, role-playing, storytelling, puppet activit

Perceptions of television violence: effects of programme genre and type of violence on viewers' judgements of violent portrayals.

This paper reports two studies which examined the mediating effects of programme genre and physical form of violence on viewers' perceptions of violent TV portrayals. In Expt 1, a panel of British viewers saw portrayals from five programme genres: British crime-drama series, US crime-drama series, westerns, science-fiction series and cartoons which feature either fights or shootings. In Expt. 2, the same viewers rated portrayals from British crime-drama and westerns which featured four types of violence, fist-fights, shootings, stabbings and explosions. All scenes were rated along eight unipol

Effect of a Popular Web Drama Video Series on HIV and Other Sexually Transmitted Infection Testing Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men in Singapore: Community-Based, Pragmatic, Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) are at disproportionately higher risk of acquiring HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STI). While HIV/STI testing rates among GBMSM are increasing worldwide, they remain suboptimal in a variety of settings. While many studies have attempted to evaluate the efficacy of a variety of community-based campaigns, including peer and reminder-based interventions on HIV/STI testing, however few have attempted to do so for a web drama series. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluates the effectiveness of a popular web drama video

The (dramatic) process of psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy can be conceived as a symbolic drama in which patients can experientially realize their capacity to change. Methods derived from hypnosis can empower therapy without the use of formal trance. A case conducted by Milton Erickson is presented and deconstructed in order to illuminate Erickson's therapeutic patterns. A model is offered for adding drama to therapy, and the model is placed into a larger model of choice points in psychotherapy.

The influence of transportation, social norms, cultural identity, and affective disposition in transnational media enjoyment.

BACKGROUND: The globalization of the media market is forcing decision-makers to understand the psychological processes behind local audiences' enjoyment of foreign TV dramas. Transportation is a well-established psychological theory and framework utilized to elucidate and anticipate audience engagement and enjoyment in the cognitive process of experiencing a narrative text. Although there is a substantial body of literature on transportation and media enjoyment, there is a noticeable absence of studies on the relationship between audiences being "transported" into the narrative world of TV dra

[When night infringes on the day.].

In this article I describe the theoretical bases and the elements of my professional experience which led me to develop an approach which aims at helping the terminally-ill to attain their ultimate development. My central hypothesis is that patients experience, during the terminal phase, the repercussions of the existential drama which become visible while beforehand they had been concealed behind the character armour. This drama consists in the acceptance or the refusal of the fact of having and of being a decomposable mortal body. In the first section, I refer to the work of Gesell in which

We do so to underscore the premise of the social model of disability, which explains that "peo

An explainable multimodal artificial intelligence model for classifying suicide attempters with borderline personality disorder: a pilot study.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a severe mental disorder marked by emotional dysregulation. Estimates show that 73% of patients with BPD will have, on average, three suicide attempts in their lifetime, with up to 10% of cases resulting in death. Reliable tools to identify risk factors associated with suicide are lacking. Artificial Intelligence (AI) could fill this gap, supporting the development of effective intervention strategies. This pilot study provides preliminary evidence that a multimodal signature could differentiate suicide attempts in individuals with BPD, paving the way t

Co-design and delivery of a relational learning programme for nursing students and young people with severe and complex learning disabilities.

BACKGROUND: National Health Service (NHS) staff in the UK are required to undergo training about learning disabilities at the appropriate level for their role. However, this requirement does not apply to nurses in training and student nurses report fear and anxiety about caring for people with intellectual learning disabilities (ILDs). Young people with intellectual disabilities report feeling scared of nurses and parents feel staff do not listen to them or involve them in care. OBJECTIVES: (i) For a university and special school for young people with server and complex ILDs to work in partne

Manikin-based practice combined with scenario-based simulation for cardiopulmonary resuscitation training among middle school students: study protocol for a cluster randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is highly fatal, and the timely delivery of high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is critical for improving survival outcomes. However, current CPR training for middle school students is still mainly based on traditional teaching methods, with limited real-life scenario simulation, making it difficult to effectively enhance skill application and emergency response capacity. Manikin-based training and scenario-based drama review, as important forms of experiential learning, may offer a promising approach to optimizing CPR training models. Ho

[Feaver Concepts in the Early Work of Poeta Medicus Friedrich Schiller].

Friedrich Schiller wrote a Latin "Prüfschrift" (thesis) on fever diseases in 1780 as part of his medical studies in Stuttgart. In it, he accuses nature of aggravating inflammation through excessive resistance. This concept of fever interacts with Schiller's early literary texts: In his first drama, "Die Räuber" (1781), the two protagonists embody the two main types of fever. Accordingly, the descriptions of the two main types of fever in the "Prüfschrift" do not turn out to be "objective" either but contain positive and negative connotations: In a sense, personified heroes and hypocrites are m

Under-the-Mango-Tree: a theatre-based male EMTCT engagement intervention in post-conflict northern Uganda.

Male involvement in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care cascades is identified as a critical prerequisite for the successful elimination of mother-to-child transfer of HIV. Scant evidence exists on efficacious culturally appropriate and male-inclusive elimination of mother-to-child transfer interventions. This reflection-in-action paper highlights field notes and observations of the development of Under-the- Mango-Tree, a theatre-based male-inclusive intervention pilot tested in northern Uganda. The intervention included: (a) traditional drama, dances and songs and (b) expert testimonies a

The Impact of Expressive Arts Therapy on Alexithymia Levels in Adolescent Inpatients with Severe Anorexia Nervosa.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a complex psychiatric disorder that requires a multidisciplinary approach. The World Health Organization recognizes the therapeutic value of expressive arts, including drama, in enhancing emotional, cognitive, and relational domains in severe mental illnesses such as AN. Expressive arts interventions may improve emotional intelligence, empathy, and self-awareness while reducing anxiety and alexithymia. This study evaluated the impact of an adjunctive expressive arts program on alexithymia in pediatric inpatients with AN. METHODS: We enrolled patients aged

Perceived stress and problematic micro-short viewing among Chinese university students: mediating effects of state boredom and moderating effects of loneliness.

BACKGROUND: Problematic viewing of micro-short dramas has emerged as a significant public health issue among Chinese university students. Based on General Strain Theory and the I-PACE model, this study examined whether state boredom mediates the relationship between perceived stress and problematic viewing, and whether loneliness moderates this mediation pathway. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 781 Chinese college students (M = 21.10 ± 1.56 years; 50.83% female). Participants completed the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), Multidimensional State Boredom Scale (MSBS), UCL

Sequins, satin, feathers and fur - collaborative costume and the ageing burlesque body.

This article explores the efficacy of costume within the context of new or neo-burlesque performance and examines what costume 'does' on stage for older performers. It brings together scholarship on burlesque performance and female ageing and introduces a third theoretical dimension, that of critical costume. The article investigates the role costume plays in burlesque performances and the extent to which it partners with the bodies of older performers both during the creative process and on stage. Adopting object-oriented storytelling as methodology, interviews with professional and semi-prof
