The refief of primary dysmenorrhea by ketoprofen and indomethacin.

The prostaglandin biosynthesis inhibitors ketoprofen and indomethacin were compared in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea in a double-blind, cross-over trial involving 23 patients. Each drug was used for 2-4 days during 3 consecutive menstruations in randomized order. Good or moderate overall relief was obtained in 60 of the 68 ketoprofen-treated menstruations (88%). A dysmenorrhea score, based on subjective estimations of 8 symptoms, similarly decreased from a mean (+/- S.E.M.) basal level of 9.6 +/- 0.6 to 3.6 +/- 0.3 during ketoprofen treatment and to 4.0 +/- 0.3 during indomethacin. Efficacy and safety of Dysmenorrhea Patch acupoint application in women with primary dysmenorrhea: a randomized double-blind controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is defined as pain occurring with menses in the absence of pelvic pathology. Traditional Chinese Medicine offers various therapeutic approaches for PD management. Dysmenorrhea Patch, an acupoint application therapy, shows promise for PD management, but its clinical efficacy and safety require further evaluation. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of the Dysmenorrhea Patch in PD. METHODS: This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at outpatient clinics in Shanghai, China. Recruitment period: May 2021

Dysmenorrhea pattern in adolescences informing adult endometriosis.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis (EMs) is a chronic and progressive disease that, if diagnosed late, can lead to infertility and deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE). Dysmenorrhea is the most prominent symptom of EMs. However, limited research exists on the specific correlation between dysmenorrhea patterns and EMs. Early prevention of EMs is essential to effectively manage the progression of the disease, and is best detected during adolescence. Our objective was to associate the development of EMs with dysmenorrhea patterns during adolescence and quantify the risk of adult EMs for adolescent girls,

Unusual Manifestation of Membranous Dysmenorrhea: Case Report.

BACKGROUND In the 18th century, Morgagni described membranous dysmenorrhea as the sudden and complete detachment of the decidua during menstruation. This causes intense and painful contractions of the myometrium, aggravated by the expulsion of tissues produced by the decidualization of the endometrium. It is a rare pathology associated with oral contraceptives, ectopic pregnancies, abortions, and natural cycles, with consequent thickening and endometrial decidualization with molding of the tissue of the uterine cavity of membranous appearance. The definitive diagnosis is made by histopathologi

Primary Dysmenorrhea: Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Treatment Updates.

Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is a common, disregarded, underdiagnosed, and inadequately treated complaint of both young and adult females. It is characterized by painful cramps in the lower abdomen, which start shortly before or at the onset of menses and which could last for 3 days. In particular, PD negatively impacts the quality of life (QOL) of young females and is the main reason behind their absenteeism from school or work. It is suggested that increased intrauterine secretion of prostaglandins F2α and E2 are responsible for the pelvic pain associated with this disorder. Its associated symp

Isolated adenomyotic cyst associated with severe dysmenorrhea.

A case of a 23-year-old, nulliparous female with a very rare isolated adenomyotic cyst inducing severe dysmenorrhea was seen. Transvaginal ultrasonographic tomography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a 3 x 3-cm cystic mass within the left anterior wall of the uterine corpus. The cystic space was filled with hyperintense fluid on T1-weighted images, which was surrounded by hypointense tissue beside the right uterine corpus on T2-weighted images. The case was preliminarily diagnosed using MRI as having cavitated rudimentary uterine horn. However, hysterosalpingography excluded the pos

A Complex Case of Dysmenorrhea and Concurrent Acute Appendicitis.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Dysmenorrhea is a common problem experienced by many women on a regular basis. It is characterized by recurrent bouts of crampy abdominal pain that is associated with the menstrual cycle. These episodes can vary in severity and frequency and may require treatment. The objective of this study is to shed light on a case of severe dysmenorrhea that occurred simultaneously with acute appendicitis. The patient underwent appendectomy, but despite this continued to have abdominal pain in the postoperative period. This led to many investigations for possible post-surgical complications that had no yie

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment and Psychosocial Management of Dysmenorrhea.

Dysmenorrhea, or painful menstruation, is a common cause of acute pelvic pain that affects approximately two-thirds of women who are postmenarchal in the United States. Dysmenorrhea pain is frequently severe enough to disrupt daily activities and often accompanied by other symptoms, such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness. Primary dysmenorrhea is likely due to an excess of prostaglandins and is traditionally treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and hormonal therapy. Secondary dysmenorrhea can have multiple origins and requires targeted therapy. Currently, muscu

Dysmenorrhea in adolescents and young adults: etiology and management.

Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecologic complaint among adolescent and young adult females. Dysmenorrhea in adolescents and young adults is usually primary (functional), and is associated with normal ovulatory cycles and with no pelvic pathology. In approximately 10% of adolescents and young adults with severe dysmenorrhea symptoms, pelvic abnormalities such as endometriosis or uterine anomalies may be found. Potent prostaglandins and potent leukotrienes play an important role in generating dysmenorrhea symptoms. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) are the most common pharmacologi

Juvenile adenomyotic cyst of the corpus uteri with dysmenorrhea.

The clinical and pathological features of an apparently unique case of an endometrial cyst of the uterus are reported. The cyst was located within the myometrium of a 16-year-old woman suffering from dysmenorrhea. After excision of the cyst, patient's symptoms improved. On histological examination, the cyst most closely resembled an adenomyotic cyst.

The efficacy of presacral neurectomy for the relief of midline dysmenorrhea.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate prospectively the efficacy of presacral neurectomy for the treatment of midline dysmenorrhea. All patients had moderate to severe dysmenorrhea and stage III-IV endometriosis. Of the patients undergoing presacral neurectomy (N = 17), only two had a recurrence of pain. The remainder of the patients undergoing presacral neurectomy remain pain-free at 42 months of follow-up. Of the patients undergoing resection of endometriosis but not presacral neurectomy (N = 9), none received relief of midline pain. Relief of lateral pain, back pain, and dyspareunia

Identification of experimental bladder sensitivity among dysmenorrhea sufferers.

BACKGROUND: Dysmenorrhea is a common risk factor for chronic pain conditions including bladder pain syndrome. Few studies have formally evaluated asymptomatic bladder pain sensitivity in dysmenorrhea, and whether this largely reflects excess pelvic symptom reporting due to comorbid psychological dysfunction. OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine whether bladder hypersensitivity is more common among women reporting moderate or greater dysmenorrhea, without chronic pain elsewhere, after accounting for anxiety and depression. Demonstrating this would suggest that dysmenorrhea might be an early clue

Complementary and alternative therapies in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.

Primary dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological condition among women. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has been used for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea for centuries. These therapies lack the drawbacks associated with traditional symptomatic medications, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and oral contraceptives, which can increase the risk of adverse effects like mild neurological symptoms (headaches, drowsiness, dizziness) and gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, indigestion). This article reviews current CAM strategies for treating primary dysmenorrhea,

Membranous dysmenorrhea and decidual casts: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Membranous dysmenorrhea, characterized by the expulsion of intact endometrial tissue rather than gradual dissolution during menstruation, occasionally presents as a decidual cast-a complete triangular mold of the uterine cavity. This poorly understood condition is likely underdiagnosed. OBJECTIVES: This study maps and describes the existing English literature on membranous dysmenorrhea and decidual cast expulsion, focusing on clinical presentation, etiology, and management. SEARCH STRATEGY: A scoping review was conducted according to Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and PRISMA

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment in Dysmenorrhea: A Systematic Review.

The majority of women experience dysmenorrhea during their lifetime. The current standard-of-care treatment consists of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, oral contraceptive pills, or intrauterine devices. Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is a beneficial tool for improving non-musculoskeletal (non-MSK) conditions such as migraines, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and anxiety. OMT should be utilized to improve other non-MSK conditions, such as dysmenorrhea. The current review aims to evaluate the effects of OMT in women with dysmenorrhea. An extensive search was conducted in

The effect of vitamin D on adolescents' primary dysmenorrhea.

Vitamin D receptor (VDR) expression in the female reproductive tract explains the regulatory role of vitamin D on inflammatory cytokine and prostaglandin (PGD) synthesis. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of vitamin D on adolescents' primary dysmenorrhea and the relationship between Vit. D and adolescents' primary dysmenorrhea. Eighty-five adolescents were included in the current study. After a detailed evaluation, pelvic sonography was performed for all participants to rule out any pelvic pathology. Blood samples were collected to measure thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), prolactin, gl

Is primary dysmenorrhea a precursor of future endometriosis development?

Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is the most common gynecologic disorder during adolescence and it is characterized by crampy lower abdominal pain that occurs during menstruation. Secondary dysmenorrhea, in contrast, has the same clinical features but occurs in women with a disease that could account for their symptoms (endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease). Endometriosis is the most common cause of secondary dysmenorrhea and it should be considered in patients with persistent and clinically significant dysmenorrhea despite treatment. It is often diagnosed after a
