The present report describes a case of anti-Hu antibody-mediated encephalopathy associated with ovarian cancer. The patient developed paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes (PNS) during the course of ovarian cancer and showed a symptom of jargon aphasia; diagnosis of PNS was made on the basis of serological and cerebrospinal examination, electroencephalogram (EEG), and magnetic resonance images. INTRODUCTION: The anti-Hu associated syndrome is a rare paraneoplastic neurological syndrome, which is principally associated with small-cell lung cancer.

Anti-Hu encephalomyelitis is one of the most frequent paraneoplastic syndromes, classically presenting with diffuse neurological involvement. The diagnosis of anti-Hu-associated encephalomyelitis/sensory neuropathy may be particularly difficult when cranial nerve involvement represents the first clinical manifestation of the disease. We report a case of a patient who presented with facial pain as the first manifestation of an anti-Hu paraneoplastic syndrome, which needs a rapid detection and treatment of the underlying tumour. We suggest that paraneoplastic neuropathy should be considered during the management of trigeminal neuropathic pain, especially when brain imagery is normal.
