OBJECTIVE: To provide an overview of the observational studies on child's cognitive, linguistic, and educational outcomes following prenatal exposure to psychotropics and analgesics, including reporting of outcome measure validity and reliability.
STUDY DESIGN: We searched four databases, MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, and PubMed from inception to September 2023. We included all original studies involving participants less than 18 years old, who were prenatally exposed to psychotropics and/or analgesics with cognitive, linguistic, and/or educational outcomes and excluded those lacking comparison

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) with low-power laser is used for pain relief in several clinical conditions, including temporomandibular disorders (TMD). As musculoskeletal pain often produces changes in motor behavior, it is common for patients with TMD to present limited mandibular movements. To the date, there is no consensus about the optimal dosimetric parameters of PMBT for TMD. This randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial aims to evaluate pain relief and mandibular mobility in patients with TMD following treatments with 2 laser wavelengths, red (660 nm) and infrared (808 n

The Canadian Hypertension Education Program reviews the hypertension literature annually and provides detailed recommendations regarding hypertension diagnosis, assessment, prevention, and treatment. This report provides the updated evidence-based recommendations for 2015. This year, 4 new recommendations were added and 2 existing recommendations were modified. A revised algorithm for the diagnosis of hypertension is presented. Two major changes are proposed: (1) measurement using validated electronic (oscillometric) upper arm devices is preferred over auscultation for accurate office blood pr

OBJECTIVE: To provide updated, evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and assessment of adults with hypertension.
OPTIONS AND OUTCOMES: The diagnosis of hypertension is dependent on appropriate blood pressure measurement, the timely assessment of serially elevated readings, the degree of blood pressure elevation, the method of measurement (office, ambulatory, home) and associated comorbidities. The presence of cardiovascular risk factors and target organ damage should be ascertained to assess global cardiovascular risk and determine the urgency, intensity and type of treatment requi

OBJECTIVE: To provide updated, evidence-based recommendations for the assessment of the diagnosis, cardiovascular risk and identifiable causes for adults with high blood pressure.
OPTIONS: For persons in whom a high blood pressure value is recorded, the assignment of a diagnosis of hypertension is dependent on the appropriate measurement of blood pressure, the level of the blood pressure elevation and the duration of follow-up. In addition, the presence of concomitant vascular risk factors, target organ damage and established atherosclerotic diseases should be assessed to determine the urgenc

BACKROUND: The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) emerged at the end of 2019 and has since affected Türkiye as well as the rest of the World. The main purpose of this study is to examine the effects of social isolation measures during the COVID-19 epidemic on education perceptions, anxiety levels, sleep quality, and physical activity levels of healthcare students, as well as the relationship between anxiety with sleep quality and physical activity level.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted between May and June 2020. The sample consisted of 457 physi

We present the inaugural evidence-based Canadian recommendations for the measurement of blood pressure in children and the diagnosis and evaluation of pediatric hypertension. Rates of pediatric hypertension are increasing concomitant with increased rates of childhood obesity. With this, there is growing awareness of the need to measure blood pressure in children. Consequently, the present recommendations have been developed to address an important gap and improve the clinical care of children. For 2016, a total of 15 recommendations are presented. These are categorized in a fashion similar to

OBJECTIVES: Students in classical music performance in higher education frequently report playing-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMDs) and psychological distress. Observational studies based on self-reported data suggest an association between these two health problems. This observation supports early multidimensional prevention. However, access to musician-specific health support remains limited. The aim of this study was to develop a consensus among experts, informed by input from music students and teachers (stakeholders), on the relevance/usefulness of Patient-Reported Outcome Measure

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of mental health concerns among university students in the United States (U.S.) continues to increase, while current treatments, including medication and counseling, present shortcomings. Higher dairy and calcium intakes are associated with protective effects on mental health; however, previous studies have focused on investigating singular relationships between dairy and calcium intakes and mental health measures. A more complex exploration of these relationships is warranted to better examine whether increasing dairy and calcium intakes could serve as an interventi

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate some understanding of the daily lives of young people facing socio-educational measures of incarceration, especially regarding the predisposing factors that may explain their involvement in criminal occupations and activities (Although the socio-educational measures applicable to adolescents configures as a response to committing of an offence, it has a mostly educational and not punitive character.). This is an exploratory study with a qualitative approach. The data collection instrument used was semi-structured interviews with 22 young men aged between

Hypertension Canada's Canadian Hypertension Education Program Guidelines Task Force provides annually updated, evidence-based recommendations to guide the diagnosis, assessment, prevention, and treatment of hypertension. This year, we present 4 new recommendations, as well as revisions to 2 previous recommendations. In the diagnosis and assessment of hypertension, automated office blood pressure, taken without patient-health provider interaction, is now recommended as the preferred method of measuring in-office blood pressure. Also, although a serum lipid panel remains part of the routine labo

OBJECTIVES: Statutory educational attainment measures are rarely used as health study outcomes, but Key Stage 1 (KS1) data formed secondary outcomes in the long-term follow-up to age 7 years of the ORACLE II trial of antibiotic use in preterm babies. This paper describes the approach, compares different approaches to analysis of the KS1 data and compares use of summary KS1 (level) data with use of individual question scores.
PARTICIPANTS: 3394 children born to women in the ORACLE Children Study and resident in England at age 7.
METHODS: Analysis of educational achievement measured by nationa

OBJECTIVES: This scoping review aimed to understand the extent and depth of education provided on the severe sepsis and septic shock management bundle quality measure (SEP-1) to frontline clinicians to elicit insight regarding the impact on patient outcomes, the compliance rate, and any efforts to alleviate concerns about clinical judgment challenges with SEP-1.
DATA SOURCES: Seven databases were used: ProQuest, EBSCO Host, Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, MEDLINE, and CINAHL for studies published in 2015 and later using key terms related to sepsis and SEP-1 quality measure.
