OBJECTIVE: The single-embryo transfer (SET) is the recommended approach to improve the live birth rate and reduce the complications related with multiple pregnancies. However, the physicians generally chose to transfer two embryos when the embryo quality decreased. The effect on the in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes following the transfer of a poor-quality embryo (PQE) along with a good-quality embryo (GQE) has been explored. However, previous studies were limited by the fresh embryo transfer cycles or the small sample size.
METHODS: A retrospect

BACKGROUND: Contemporary embryo biopsy in the United States involves the removal of several cells from a blastocyst that would become the placenta for preimplantation genetic testing. Embryos are then cryopreserved while patients await biopsy results, with transfers occurring in a subsequent cycle as a single frozen-thawed embryo transfer, if euploid.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine if removal of these cells for preimplantation genetic testing was associated with adverse obstetrical or neonatal outcomes after frozen-thawed single embryo transfer.
STUDY DESIGN: We linked assisted reproducti

Recent advances in nonsurgical deep uterine (NsDU) embryo transfer (ET) technology allow the noninvasive transfer of porcine embryos into recipients, overcoming the most important impediment for commercial ET in this species. Although many factors in the porcine ET-field have been recently evaluated, many others remain to be explored. We investigated here the future reproductive performance of donors and recipients after artificial insemination subsequent to the default surgical embryo recovery approach and to the NsDU-ET procedure, respectively. Although surgical embryo collection did not inf

Embryo transfer (ET) is a critical step in in vitro fertilization (IVF) and plays a pivotal role in determining implantation and pregnancy outcomes. Despite the routine use of soft catheters and real-time ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate embryo placement, procedural complications may occasionally occur. Premature release of an embryo into the lower uterine cavity or the utero-cervical junction is a rare event that may compromise implantation success. We report the case of a 36-year-old woman undergoing frozen embryo transfer (FET) of a day 5 blastocyst. Immediate post-transfer ultrasound

The aim of this study was to establish suitable conditions for the transfer of cloned Ỉ pig embryos by determining the appropriate embryonic developmental stage, number of SCNT Ỉ pig embryos transferred, and synchronization method. Under the conditions of the present study, our results demonstrated that the transfer of SCNT-derived blastocysts resulted in a significantly higher pregnancy rate than the transfer of embryos at 20 h post-SCNT (P < 0.05). The transfer of 60 SCNT-derived blastocysts resulted in the lowest pregnancy rate (P < 0.05). Although variation in the number of blastocysts tra

Embryo transfer (ET) is considered as a critical step in the process of in vitro fertilization. Interestingly, studies have consistently shown significant outcome differences between physicians. Although the outcome of ET is not related to the physician's experience and specifically not different between fellows and attending physicians, certain techniques have been found to affect the success rate. This review summarizes the existing evidence regarding the impact of the individual physician performing ET and the techniques used.

A normal baby girl was delivered after the successful transfer of two thawed embryos which had been frozen for eight weeks. Embryo cryopreservation may improve the chances of conception by women who are undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF), reduce the risks of multiple pregnancies in association with IVF, and offer the chance of conception to women with serious gynaecological disease which threatens ovarian function.

The process of implantation is characterized by a complex cross-talk between the endometrium and the blastocyst, with the endometrium only being receptive to implantation during a transient window of implantation of approximately 2-3 days during the midsecretory phase. The timing of embryo transfer, including frozen embryo transfer, is therefore critical to the success of implantation. In this article, we discuss various elements that may guide the timing of frozen embryo transfer, including the role of endometrial characteristics such as thickness, days postovulation or length of progesterone

This preliminary study was designed to evaluate retrograde cannulation of the Fallopian tubes up to the isthmo-interstitial junction using the new technique of tubal embryo stage transfer (TEST). Follicular aspiration was performed under the guidance of a vaginal ultrasound probe in 51 women treated with GnRH + HMG. The oocytes retrieved were inseminated in vitro with 50,000 motile spermatozoa and kept in Menezo B2 medium without serum, at 37 degrees C, in an atmosphere of air + 5% CO2. The eggs were checked 24 and 36 h after insemination. No fertilization occurred in 23 patients. Cleaved embr

INTRODUCTION: Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) aim to address the underlying causes of infertility, resulting in a healthy live birth. One aspect that appears receiving less attention yet is equally crucial as any other steps in the ART process, is embryo transfer (ET). Even with optimal embryos, a successful live birth cannot be achieved without a precise and atraumatic transfer to the correct location within the uterine cavity. Compared to other advancements in laboratory and clinic, relatively few innovations have occurred in ET.

Uterosacral ligament (USL) is an uncommon site of implantation for abdominal ectopic pregnancies. This is the first case of USL heterotopic pregnancy post invitro fertilisation (IVF). The patient presented 6 weeks after a double embryo transfer with acute onset abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a suspected live tubal ectopic pregnancy with a viable intrauterine pregnancy on ultrasound. A diagnostic laparoscopy revealed an ectopic pregnancy implanted on the left USL which was resected and confirmed on histology. The patient was discharged well on postoperative day 2 with a viable intrauteri

CASE: To present an extremely rare case of bilateral tubal pregnancies following a single-embryo transfer in a woman with a 4 year history of infertility prior to seeking assisted reproductive technology.
OUTCOME: A pregnancy resulted from the transfer of an embryo that had been thawed from a frozen blastocyst during a hormone replacement cycle. An ultrasound that was performed at 5 weeks and 5 days of gestation revealed a gestational sac, embryo, and heartbeat in the right fallopian tube and similar signs of a gestational sac in the left fallopian tube. A laparoscopy revealed clear signs of

What role should legislation or policy play in avoiding the complications of in-vitro fertilization? In this article, we focus on single versus double embryo transfer, and assess three arguments in favour of mandatory single embryo transfer: risks to the mother, risks to resultant children, and costs to society. We highlight significant ethical concerns about each of these. Reproductive autonomy and non-paternalism are strong enough to outweigh the health concerns for the woman. Complications due to non-identity cast doubt on the extent to which children are harmed. Twinning may offer an overa

Cervical agenesis is a rare congenital pathology linked to an anomaly of development of the Mullerian system. We described a case report about a 22-year old woman, consulting for infertility, who had a complete cervical agenesis. The first evaluation suggested a 46 XX karyotype and a normal ovarian reserve. The surgical examination confirmed the absence of cervix with impossibility of catheterization. She became pregnant thanks to an in vitro fertilization (IVF) with transmyometrial embryo transfer. Caesarean was decided at 36 weeks of gestation (WG) due to spontaneous uterine contractions. An
