Formulation of Dual-Functional Nonionic Cetomacrogol Creams Incorporated with Bacteriophage and Human Platelet Lysate for Effective Targeting of MDR P. aeruginosa and Enhanced Wound Healing.

Successful development of phage-based therapeutics and their utility predominantly depend on the mode and route of phage administration. Topical and site-directed phage application evokes minimal immune clearance and allows more phage-host adsorption, thereby ensuring higher phage efficacy. However, a notable drawback of conventional topical phage applications is the absence of sustained release. Occlusive emollients guarantee the controlled release of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), thereby facilitating administration, preventing moisture loss, and acting as a skin barrier. A two-stage Maillard temperature control strategy in the cooling direction improves the emulsifying properties of sunflower seed protein.

For the Maillard process, this study developed a two-stage temperature-path control (TPC) technique (90 °C-4 h to 50/70 °C-1/2 h). It thoroughly examined how various TPCs control the interfacial behavior and structural development of sunflower seed protein-glucose Maillard conjugates. While maintaining a high degree of reaction, the 70-2 TPC method significantly improved the emulsifying activity index (EAI, 27.12 ± 0.04 m2/g) and emulsifying stability index (ESI, 35.50 ± 0.31 min). This method preserved molecular flexibility and amphiphilic balance by preventing excessive disulfide bond cross-

Investigation of anti-PEG antibody response to PEG-containing cosmetic products in mice.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG), a polyether compound, is available in molecular weights from ∼300 g/mol to ∼10,000,000 g/mol. In the molecular weight range of ∼750 to ∼5000, PEG is commonly used in bioconjugation technology and nano-formulations to improve the circulation half-life of the formulations and increase their stability. In cosmetics, lower molecular weight PEG compounds such as PEG 60 or PEG 100 are widely used as emulsifiers and skin penetration enhancers. PEG polymers are generally recognized as biologically inert and non-immunogenic. However, it is recently reported that the "pre-exis

FURTHER STUDIES OF EXPERIMENTAL ALLERGIC ENCEPHALOMYELITIS IN THE FOWL. II. THE INFLUENCE OF DOSE VARIATIONS ON THE HISTOLOGICAL LESIONS.

The effects of varying the dose of the constituents of an inoculum known to produce EAE in a reciprocal cross of Brown Leghorn fowls have been studied. Large amounts of the emulsifying agent suppressed the severity of the histological lesions. Fifty mg. of homologous spinal cord and 2 mg. of Mycobacterium tuberculosis per bird were found to be the optimum doses necessary to produce consistently severe histological lesions. A standard procedure for inducing EAE for quantitative studies in `B×I' Brown Leghorn fowls was adopted.

The Microencapsulation of Tung Oil with a Natural Hydrocolloid Emulsifier for Extrinsic Self-Healing Applications.

In this work, tung oil was utilised as a catalyst-free self-healing agent, and an in-situ polymerization process was applied to encapsulate the tung oil core with a poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) shell. The conventional poly(ethylene-alt-maleic-anhydride) (PEMA) polymer was compared to a more naturally abundant gelatin (GEL) emulsifier to compare the microcapsules' barrier, morphological, thermal, and chemical properties, and the crystalline nature of the shell material. GEL emulsifiers produced microcapsules with a higher payload (96.5%), yield (28.9%), and encapsulation efficiency (61.7%) com

Investigation on the surface-active and antimicrobial properties of a natural glycolipid product.

Glycolipids are a group of sugar-containing lipids with versatile functions. In this study, a natural glycolipid product was obtained from soy lecithin, and its emulsifying, oil-gelling, antibacterial and antiviral properties were investigated. A silica-based extraction method on a preparative scale was used to recover the glycolipid product (GLP) from soy lecithin. The GLP consisted of three different glycolipid classes: acylated sterol glucoside (64.16%), sterol glucoside (25.57%) and cerebroside (6.71%). As an emulsifier, the GLP was able to form a stable water-in-oil emulsion. The GLP exhi

Performance and mechanism analysis of DMP-30 modulated waterborne epoxy resin emulsified asphalt.

The rapid breakage of emulsified asphalt can hinder the curing process of epoxy resin, thereby compromising the performance of waterborne epoxy resin emulsified asphalt (WEREA) and its mixture. Introducing the DMP-30 curing accelerator to expedite the curing of waterborne epoxy resins (WER) presents a possible solution. This study aims to investigate the impact of varying dosages of DMP-30 (0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%) on the performance of WEREA and its mixes through macro- and micro-experimentation. A series of experiments was used to evaluate the high-temperature properties, adhesion properties, mic

Enhanced emulsifying properties of octenyl succinic anhydride starch by homogeneous modification in KOH/urea aqueous solution.

Octenyl succinic anhydride starch (OSA-starch) is a widely used food-grade emulsifier. However, the heterogeneous synthesis process resulting from insoluble starch granules limits the functional properties of OSA-starch (HeOSA-starch). In this study, KOH/urea solution was used to dissolve starch to prepare OSA-starch via homogeneous modification (HoOSA-starch), and its emulsifying properties were investigated. Homogeneous modification significantly improved the degree of substitution and dispersibility of OSA-starch. Emulsions stabilized by HoOSA-starch exhibited superior stability than those

High internal phase emulsions stabilised by amyloid fibrils from 7S/11S soybean protein at varying ratios: Study on interfacial behaviour, rheological properties and curcumin delivery potential.

In response to the challenges associated with stabilising high-internal-phase emulsions (HIPE) using natural soy protein-namely, its weak surface activity and susceptibility to structural instability-as well as the poor water solubility and insufficient bioavailability of curcumin, this study utilised soy protein amyloid fibrils with varying 7S/11S ratios as emulsifiers to construct curcumin-loaded HIPE, elucidating the intrinsic relationship between fibril structural characterisation, HIPE interfacial and rheological properties, and curcumin delivery performance. The results indicate that fib

Tuning bigel performance via emulsifier type and concentration: Structural, physicochemical, and molecular perspectives.

To develop bigels with tunable physical properties and enhanced chemical stability, this study investigated the effect of emulsifier type and concentration on the physical properties, microstructure, and oxidative stability of bigels composed of ethyl cellulose oleogel and deacetylated konjac glucomannan hydrogel. The marked improvement in bigel uniformity and dispersion observed at low concentrations (≤1 %) of glycerol monooleate (GM) and phosphatidylcholine (PC) was primarily attributed to the significant reduction in oil-water interfacial tension (from 18.10 to 12.90 mN/m). At concentration

Zein-EGCG‑sodium alginate conjugates with tunable interfacial properties for improved stability and antioxidant performance of walnut oil emulsions.

Designing food-grade emulsifiers with enhanced interfacial properties and functional activities is key to improving walnut oil-in-water emulsion stability and oxidation resistance. This study used zein, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and sodium alginate (SA) to construct binary/ternary emulsifiers with different compositions and bonding modes. An oil-to-water ratio of 2:8 was optimized for minimal droplet size. Emulsions stabilized by zein-EGCG-SA conjugates exhibited the greatest interfacial thickness (732 nm) and highest protein adsorption rate, resulting in superior stability against ther

Management of hot tar burn using vitamin e ointment containing petroleum and polyoxyethylene sorbitan.

Tar burns are primarily an occupational hazard associated with the road paving or roofing industry. Management of tar burns requires safe and effective removal of solidified tar from the skin using a dissolution or emulsifying agent to prevent inflicting further injury and pain. We report a case of a patient with tar burns on 10% of his body surface area involving the lower arms bilaterally and splashes to the facial area. The tar was efficiently removed with Webber Vitamin E Ointment without toxicity, irritation, or other complications.

An exploration on coconut milk stability by protein characterization, sterilization controlling, and alternative protein emulsifiers.

Coconut milk with high fat-to-protein ratio often encounters physical instability. Characterization of coconut protein could provide better understanding of the roles protein played in stability. The results showed coconut protein predominantly consisted of 11S globulin (53 kDa cocosin with acidic and basic polypeptides linked by disulfide bonds) and 7S globulin (53, 35, and 24 kDa). The easier precipitation of 11S globulin indicated poor emulsifying property, thus partly resulted in instability of coconut milk. Atmospheric pressure sterilization or ultra-high temperature instantaneous sterili

Physicochemical properties and biological safety of ferulic acid-grafted gelatin as a versatile food emulsifier: Studies in zebrafish and C. elegans.

Ferulic acid-grafted gelatin (Fg) was synthesized through the reaction with carbodiimide and evaluated for its potential as a clean-label, multifunctional food emulsifier. FTIR, UV-Vis, and NMR structural analyses demonstrated that amide linkages were effectively established between ferulic acid and gelatin. The grafting significantly enhanced the interfacial performance and the physicochemical characteristics. Visual and microscopic evaluations further confirmed that Fg formed stable and fine emulsions with reduced droplet size and improved dispersion stability compared to native gelatin. The
