Cooley's anaemia in association with mucopolysaccharidosis (type IV) and enchondromatosis respectively.

Cooley's anaemia has been observed in conjunction with, in one instance, Morquio's syndrome and, in a second instance, enchondromatosis. The clinical and radiological findings are described. The genetics of these associations are analyzed; their influence on prognosis for the individual child and for genetic counselling for the family are discussed.

Three different methods for treating multiple enchondromatosis in one hand.

Ollier's disease remains comparatively rare, and is a non-hereditary cartilage dysplasia of bone. It is usually associated with problems such as deformity and fracture. Three different methods were used in a one-hand of 15-year-old boy reporting his pain in the left hand and swellings. After the curettage of tumor, regarding as the differences of all parts of the bone structure reconstruction in the patient's hand, we chose three following methods for this boy, i.e. fixed by the locking plate with calcium phosphate cement, filled with allograft bone, curetted the tumor without any bone graft.

[Hereditary multiple exostosis. Case report and differential diagnosis of enchondromatosis].

The enchondromatosis include a heterogeneous group of congenital disorders characterized by the presence of multiple enchondromas associated with musculoskeletal malformations and the main complication is the risk of malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma. The hereditary multiple exostosis is an entity with autonomus dominant inheritance pattern, characterized by having multiple exostosis capped benign cartilage and heterogeneous clinical manifestations. Mutations of EXT1 and EXT2 genes have been cloned and are responsible for over 80% of the cases. We report a case of a six years old fema

Clinics in diagnostic imaging (124). Multiple enchondromatosis in Ollier disease.

A three-year-old girl presented with slow-growing swellings at the left foot and upper right humerus. Radiographs show multiple enchondromas in both feet, proximal humeri and scapulae, as well as at multiple sites in the hands, distal forearm bones and pelvis, in keeping with multiple enchondromatosis in Ollier disease. The clinical presentation and imaging features of enchondromas and the different types of enchondromatosis are discussed.

Case report 877: Giant cell reparative granuloma arising in enchondromatosis.

A case of giant cell reparative granuloma in a 16-year-old girl has been reported. This is the first reported case of giant cell reparative granuloma associated with enchondromatosis. In addition to the clinical features, the pathologic findings and differential diagnosis were also discussed.

MRI features of low-grade and high-grade chondrosarcoma in enchondromatosis.

OBJECTIVE: To identify magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features which aid differentiation of low-grade chondral tumours (LGCT-enchondroma and grade 1 chondrosarcoma) from high-grade chondral tumours (HGCT) in patients with enchondromatosis. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Approval from our local Research and Innovation Centre of The Institute of Orthopaedics was gained. Patients with enchondromatosis who had biopsy and/or resection of chondral lesions over a 13-year period were identified. The pre-biopsy MRI study was assessed by two experienced musculoskeletal radiologists for tumour origin (intramed

[Surgical treatment of hand deformities in multiple enchondromatosis: a case report].

Multiple enchondromatosis (Ollier's disease) is a rare disease characterized by widespread enchondromas. In general, the short tubular bones of the hand are involved, with progressive lesions resulting in cosmetic problems and functional deformities. Diaphysectomy and reconstruction with structural autografts or allografts are usually recommended in the treatment of extensive enchondromas involving the fingers. Curettage and grafting and ray amputation are other surgical procedures that can be applied depending on the severity of involvement. A 25-year-old woman with enchondromatosis presented

Chondrosarcoma of the hand secondary to multiple enchondromatosis; report of two cases.

Although malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma may occur in some patients with multiple enchondromatosis, this event rarely occurs in the hand. We encountered two patients with chondrosarcoma of the hand secondary to multiple enchondromatosis. One patient was a 27-year-old man and the other, a 76-year-old man. Both patients manifested multiple osteolytic lesions in the hand on the plain radiographs. Severe bone destruction associated with a large soft-tissue swelling of the proximal and middle phalanges of the little finger was seen in case 1. In case 2, tremendous expansion and bone dest

Acroform type of enchondromatosis associated with severe vertebral involvement and facial dysmorphism in a boy with a new variant of enchondromatosis type I1 of Spranger: case report and a review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Enchondromatosis represent a heterogenous group of disorders. Spranger et al attempted a classification into 6 types: Ollier disease, Maffuci syndrome, metachondromatosis, spondyloenchondrodysplasia, enchondromatosis with irregular vertebral lesions, and generalized enchondromatosis. Halal and Azouz added 3 tentative categories to the 6 in the classification of Spranger et al. CASE PRESENTATION: We report on a 15-year-old boy with acrofrom upper limbs and mixed appearance of radiolucency, cysts and striae of fibro-chondromatosis. Lower limbs (femoral, tibial and fibular dysplasia

A new type of enchondromatosis is described with a symmetrical distribution but not involving the spine and characterised by severe ankle deformity, shortening of metacarpals and phalanges, and cone-shaped phalangeal epiphyses.

Case report 726. Enchondromatosis of the left femur and hemipelvis (Ollier's disease).

A case of Ollier's disease is demonstrated. Large osteolytic lesions in the left femur and hemipelvis visible on the roentgenograms represent enchondromas. On CT and MRI studies numerous fine translucencies are demonstrated in the surrounding bone, corresponding to multiple cartilaginous foci. These findings may be considered pathognomonic for enchondromatosis (Ollier's disease). In addition, the nature of Ollier's disease and its predilection for malignant transformation are considered. The major differential diagnostic entity in this case was probably fibrous dysplasia.

Widespread and debilitating hemangiomas in a patient with enchondromatosis and D-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria.

Metaphyseal chondromatosis with D-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria (MC-HGA) (OMIM 614875) is a severe chondrodysplasia combined with a urinary excretion of D-2-hydroxyglutaric acid. Here, we reported the tenth case of this disease. A 15-year-old boy had symmetric radiolulencies in the metaphyses of the long bones suggesting enchondromatosis and platyspondyly. Remarkably, he manifested widespread cavernous hemangiomas including scalp, lips, tongue, larynx, and prepuce, with the onset of 3 years of age. Hemangiomas at the larynx had caused dyspnea and those in the oral cavity led to recurrent bleeding

Enchondromatosis (Ollier disease, Maffucci syndrome) is not caused by the PTHR1 mutation p.R150C.

Enchondromatosis (Ollier disease, Maffucci syndrome) is a rare developmental disorder characterized by multiple enchondromas. Not much is known about its molecular genetic background. Recently, an activating mutation in the parathyroid hormone receptor type 1 (PTHR1) gene, c.448C>T (p.R150C), was reported in two of six patients with enchondromatosis. The mutation is thought to result in upregulation of the IHH/PTHrP pathway. This is in contrast to previous studies, showing downregulation of this pathway in other cartilaginous tumors. Therefore, we investigated PTHR1 in enchondromas and chondro
