OBJECTIVE: To analyse the literature on the treatment of adolescent painful endometriosis.
METHOD: This work is based on a Review of the literature between January 2006 and December 2017. The Medline (Pubmed) and Cochrane database were searched for meta-analyzes, randomized trials, literature reviews, controlled, not controlled and retrospective studies published on the subject. Studies concerning adolescent's dysmenorrhea without endometriosis were excluded.
RESULTS: Study quality is heterogeneous. Dienogest and GnRH agonists (GnRHa) are the only treatments specifically evaluated for the tr

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this work is to evaluate the place of new treatments in the management of endometriosis outside the context of infertility.
METHODS: A review of the literature was conducted by consulting Medline data until July 2017.
RESULTS: Dienogest is effective compared to placebo in short term (NP2) and long term (NP4) for the treatment of painful endometriosis. In comparison with GnRH agonists, dienogest is also effective in terms of decreased pain and improved quality of life in non-operated patients (NP2) as well as for recurrence of lesions and symptomatology postoperati

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Atypical endometriosis (AE) is thought to be a precursor lesion to the ovarian cancer subtypes associated with endometriosis, namely, endometrioid and clear cell carcinomas. ARID1A encodes a nuclear protein (BAF250a) governing chromatin remodeling, and mutations in ARID1A have been found in 30% to 50% of clear cell and endometrioid ovarian cancers. As BAF250a expression loss by immunohistochemistry (IHC) has been documented in the endometriosis precursor lesions closely associated with these ovarian cancers subtypes, our goal was to further study the association betwe

Endometriosis, affecting 10-15% of women of reproductive age, is more commonly found on the left side of the pelvis. This laterality phenomenon's etiology remains obscure. We reviewed the existing literature and proposed four different theories explaining the left laterality of endometriosis. The anatomical theory is based on the structural asymmetry of the pelvis. Organs surrounding the left adnexa serve as mechanical barriers and interfere with clearance of endometrial cells migrating to the pelvis, promoting in turn endometriotic implants. The physiological theory focuses on the role of the

IMPORTANCE: Endometriosis is a chronic, estrogen-dependent, inflammatory disease defined by endometrial-like tissue (lesions) outside the uterine lining. It affects up to 10% of women worldwide, and 9 million women in the US, during reproductive years.
OBSERVATIONS: Endometriosis has varying clinical presentations; however, 90% of people with endometriosis report pelvic pain, including dysmenorrhea, nonmenstrual pelvic pain, and dyspareunia, and 26% report infertility. Risk factors for endometriosis include younger age at menarche, shorter menstrual cycle length, lower body mass index, nullip

BACKGROUND: In the most severe stage of endometriosis, Stage IV, intestinal involvement is common. The true prevalence of endometriotic disease of the appendix in this population is not well described. A macroscopically normal looking appendix may harbour endometriosis.
AIMS: Our study aims to assess the role of routinely performing appendicectomy in Stage IV endometriosis surgery, and the histopathological prevalence of true appendiceal endometriosis in this population.
METHODS: This is a retrospective study of women undergoing surgery for Stage IV endometriosis between 2018 to 2022 in a te

In our review article, we focused on the rare topic of endometriosis in postmenopause. Endometriosis is primarily a disease of women of reproductive age. In postmenopause, atrophy of endometriosis foci usually occurs. However, recurrence or even de novo occurrence of endometriosis in postmenopause has also been described. The prevalence in postmenopause has been reported to be around 2-5%. Factors that may account for the recurrence of endometriosis are exogenously administered estrogens, self-production of estrogens in peripheral adipose tissue, or activation of aromatase in the focus of endo

Endometriosis involving the presence and growth of glands and stroma outside the uterine cavity is a common, inflammatory, benign gynecologic disease. Nevertheless, no single theory can exactly account for the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Telocytes, a kind of novel mesenchymal cells, have been suggested to be crucial in promoting angiogenesis and increasing the activity of endometrial interstitial cells and inflammatory cells. Given above roles, telocytes may be considered as the possible pathogenesis of endometriosis. We reviewed the current literature on telocytes. The following aspects we

Diffuse adenomyosis, focal adenomyosis, ovarian endometrioma, superficial endometriosis and deep infiltrating adenomyosis are all defined by the presence of an endometrioid tissue in an ectopic location that is at distance from the endometrium. Although frequently associated, these lesions represent different clinico-pathological entities that the pathologist should recognized. Herein, we review the clinical and pathological features of these entities, as well as related current physiopathological understandings and differential diagnoses that could be raised by some morphological variants. Endometriosis and Menopause Abstract. Endometriosis is supposed to affect only women in their reproductive years, but endometriotic lesions can reactivate in menopause and cause significant complaints in these patients. Altered needs and co-morbidities of the women request a different approach in therapy than in the younger ages. Reduction in chronic pain on the one hand and alleviation of climacteric symptoms, like hot-flushes and vaginal dryness, on the other hand, are main concerns to the physician in charge. Consequently, keeping the balance between the hypoestrogenic state, which is neces

Endometriosis constitutes the presence of ectopic endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterine endometrium, which is hormonally responsive and responds to pregnancy hormones as well. Decidualization is a physiologic process, where the normal endometrium readies itself for optimal accommodation of a pregnancy. A similar hormonal response can be seen with ectopic endometrium as well. As such, ovarian endometriomas and deep endometriosis implants can undergo decidualization. Overall, the progestational state of pregnancy favors an improvement in endometriosis, however, decidualization can le

Endometriosis is a disease that affects a significant portion of reproductive age women. It can cause chronic pelvic pain and has been associated with subfertility. Treatment options differ depending on a patient's reproductive goals; women who do not desire pregnancy are treated with hormonal medications including combined oral contraceptives, progestin only pills or intrauterine devices, gonadotropin releasing hormone agonists and antagonists, and danocrine. The treatment options for women desiring pregnancy are more limited and most often include surgery to improve pain symptoms and increas

Endometriosis is a chronic, inflammatory, estrogen-dependent disease characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside of the uterine cavity. Although the etiology of endometriosis remains elusive, immunological dysfunction has been proposed as a critical facilitator of ectopic lesion growth following retrograde menstruation of endometrial debris. However, it is not clear whether this immune dysfunction is a cause or consequence of endometriosis. Thus, here we provide in-depth insights into our current understanding of the immunopathophysiology of endometriosis and highlight challenges

Endometriosis affects a significant proportion of teenagers. Published studies suggest that laparoscopically confirmed endometriosis could be found in over 60% of adolescent girls undergoing laparoscopic investigation for pain, in 75% of girls with chronic pelvic pain resistant to treatment and in 70% of girls with dysmenorrhea and in approximately 50% of girls with chronic pelvic pain not necessarily resistant to treatment. Both early and advanced forms, including deep endometriosis have been reported to be present in teenagers. It has recently been claimed that deep endometriosis has its roo

Endometriosis is one of the frequent gynecological diseases in premenopausal women. The clinical diagnostics is difficult because symptoms of endometriosis are variable. The surgical removal of endometriosis is the primary therapeutic aim. Medical treatment plays a very important role in the therapy of this chronic disease. A symptomatic therapy by analgetics should be combined with a hormonal treatment. The use of oral contraceptives in extended cycle or long-term use is effective against endometriosis associated pain. Progestogens, especially dienogest, which is licensed for endometriosis tr

Endometriosis is a common cause of pelvic pain and infertility. The majority of women report symptoms since adolescence, and there are rare cases of endometriosis in premenarchal age patients. Symptoms in adolescence are similar to those in adulthood. Treatment usually consists of oral contraceptives and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In cases where this treatment is not successful, laparoscopy and biopsy of the lesions are necessary for diagnosis. However, emerging new technologies provide new options, in particular the use of serological markers.

The majority of women with endometriosis report symptoms starting in adolescence, yet endometriosis is often a delayed diagnosis in this patient population. Given that endometriosis is felt to be a progressive disease with increasing morbidities over time, such as structural defects and infertility, being more aggressive with pursuing the diagnosis is warranted. Once the diagnosis of endometriosis is made, various medical and surgical treatment modalities are available, and this article will review the most current treatment recommendations.

Endometriosis is a common condition with a varied phenotype. Symptomatic cases have been associated with progesterone resistance and dysregulated cytokine production in both ectopic and eutopic endometrium. In at least some cases, this seems to be associated with chronic local inflammation and antibody self-reactivity. Coexistence of endometriosis with autoimmune disease has been documented in a small number of cases, and the presence of autoreactive antibodies in the serum of some patients with endometriosis is commonly reported. This paper briefly reviews the association between endometriosi

Endometriosis is a common disorder of women of reproductive age, yet diagnosis of this condition is often problematic. The most frequent clinical presentations of endometriosis include dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, dyspareunia, infertility, and pelvic mass. However, the correlation between these symptoms and the stage of endometriosis is poor. Currently available laboratory markers are of limited value. At present, the best marker, serum CA-125, is usually elevated only in advanced stages and therefore not suitable for routine screening. Transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging are

INTRODUCTION: The main symptoms of endometriosis are pain, adnexal tumor and infertility. Pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea are cardinal symptoms as well as pain upon defecation, suprapubic pain (dysuria), pain during coitus and during gynecologic examination. Pain can be caused by fibrotic reaction of the adjacent tissue, adhesions, prostaglandins produced both in endometrium inside the uterus and ectopic endometrium, and also by increased macrophages in the peritoneal fluid.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 500 infertile patients underwent the procedure of laparoscopy in order to determine the cause of inf
