Residues of pesticides were surveyed in 132 samples of cow milk collected from bulk transports (38 samples of raw milk) and market (94 samples of pasteurised milk). These samples were analysed by the multiresidue analytical method DFG S19 for pesticide contamination. The migration of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and cypermethrin residues from internal organs to edible tissues of ice-held Labeo rohita (rohu) was investigated in this study. During an outbreak of Rhodesian sleeping sickness in the Lambwe Valley in 1980 initial tsetse control measures consisted of applications of dieldrin to the periphery of the Ruma National Park. This activity had a marked effect on the prevalence of sleeping sickness.
