Epimedium-Derived Exosome-like Nanovesicles Regulate Lipid Metabolism via the "Gut-Kidney Axis" for Multitargeted Inhibition of Sepsis-Associated Acute Kidney Injury.

Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (S-AKI) is a major cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in intensive care units, with persistently high incidence and mortality that pose significant clinical challenges. In this study, we isolated exosome-like nanovesicles (ENVs) from the traditional Chinese herb Epimedium sagittatum and evaluated their therapeutic potential in S-AKI. ENVs exhibited significant kidney-targeting ability and ameliorated renal injury in a murine S-AKI model. Mechanistically, ENVs reshaped the gut microbiota, promoted the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and enhan

Forest-cultivated Epimedium koreanum Nakai mitigates organotin-induced renal injury and the exacerbation of diabetic nephropathy via the SIRT1/NRF2/PPARγ signaling pathways.

BACKGROUND: Organotin compounds, such as tributyltin (TBT) and triphenyltin (TPT), are persistent environmental pollutants; however, their role in exacerbating chronic kidney diseases remains poorly understood. This study identifies how organotins exploit metabolic vulnerabilities in diabetic nephropathy (DN) and demonstrates the superior protective efficacy of Epimedium koreanum Nakai cultivated in forest (EKF) over conventional varieties. METHODS: We integrated in silico modeling and network toxicology with in vitro validation using human renal proximal tubular epithelial cells. Cells deriv

Epimedium koreanum Nakai inhibits PMA-induced cancer cell migration and invasion by modulating NF-κB/MMP-9 signaling in monomorphic malignant human glioma cells.

Previously, we showed that the herbal extract EYK (Epimedium koreanum Nakai) can regulate the immune response. Other studies showed that EYK has beneficial effects in human lung cancer, angiogenesis and Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, it remains unknown whether EYK can affect cancer cell migration and invasion in human brain cancer cell lines. In the present study, we found that pre- or post-treatment with EYK inhibited phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-induced cancer cell migration and invasion in A172 cells, but not in U373MG or T98G cells. Additionally, pre- or post-treatment with PM

Study on the intervention effect of Epimedium before and after suet-oil-processed on kidney yang deficiency rats based on intestinal flora and fecal metabolomics.

Epimedium is a Chinese herbal medicine commonly used in clinical practice to reinforce yang. Previous studies have shown that Epimedium fried with suet oil based has the best effect on warming kidney and promoting yang. Evidence suggests a relationship between kidney yang deficiency syndrome (KYDS) and metabolic disorders of the intestinal microflora. However, the specific interaction between KYDS and the intestinal microbiome, as well as the internal regulatory mechanism of the KYDS intestinal microbiome regulated by Epimedium fried with suet oil, remain unclear. The purpose of this study was

On-line concentration by field-enhanced sample injection with reverse migrating micelles in micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography for the analysis of flavonoids in Epimedium brevicornum Maxim.

A simple and sensitive micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography (MEKC) method was developed for the separation and determination of six flavonoids in Epimedium brevicornum Maxim. Field-enhanced sample injection with reverse migrating micelles (FESI-RMM) was used for on-line concentration of the flavonoids. An electrolyte containing 20 mM H3PO4, 100 mM SDS, 20% acetonitrile and 2% 2-propanol (pH 2.0) was chosen as the electrophoretic buffer. By optimizing the stacking conditions, about 40-360-fold improvement in the detection sensitivity was obtained for the flavonoids.
