OBJECTIVE: To highlight the clinical presentation and management of a rare case of oncogenic osteomalacia due to an ethmoid sinus tumour.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We examined the case records of a 55-year-old man who presented with progressive fatigue, weakness and bone pain, and noted the clinical presentation, laboratory investigations, computed tomography findings, operative notes and follow-up details.
CONCLUSION: Oncogenic osteomalacia secondary to a paranasal sinus neoplasm is a rare entity. The causative tumour is often occult and may be missed by routine clinical examination. This case

Dental migration into the ethmoid sinus is extremely rare. Furthermore, it is very unusual that a displaced dental implant is associated with a concomitant fungus ball in the ethmoid sinus. Herein, we report an unusual case of the coexistence of a dental implant and fungus ball in the ethmoid sinus. It appears that this condition has not been reported previously.

INTRODUCTION: Though clear indications for its clinical application are not established yet, balloon sinuplasty technology per se is considered safe and very few severe complications have been mentioned in literature as of today.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 36-year-old female patient who presented with right sided rhinorrhea from a CSF-leak in the ethmoidal roof after balloon sinuplasty, aimed at her right frontal sinus. Apparently, the surgeon was unaware of having penetrated the skull base through the lateral lamella of the cribriform plate intraoperatively. CSF rhinorrhea became e

Cholesterol granuloma is usually associated with chronic middle ear disease, less common in the orbit, and rare in the paranasal sinus. Cholesterol granuloma is thought to be initiated by hemorrhage, impaired drainage, and interruption of aeration. Here we report a case of cholesterol granuloma arising in the posterior ethmoid sinus mimicking meningocele. Magnetic resonance imaging is useful for differential diagnosis, and endoscopic surgery is effective for the management of cholesterol granuloma arising in the ethomoid sinus.

We report an air gun pellet in the ethmoid sinus. The entrance point was concealed in the conjunctiva of the medial canthus, sparing the eye and skin. The pellet traversed the ethmoid and was stopped by the cribriform plate. It was removed by an endoscopic approach without complications. The literature is reviewed. A high index of suspicion is required to identify penetrating foreign bodies in patients walking in with low-velocity gun injuries.

INTRODUCTION: We report a case of a transient monocular altitudinal hemianopia associated with ethmoid mucocele.
METHODS: A 34-year-old man presented with an episode of superior altitudinal hemianopia in the left eye that had lasted for about 10 minutes and then spontaneously improved three weeks ago.
RESULTS: Humphrey visual fields showed normal visual field in both eyes. Exophthalmometry showed 18 mm in the right eye and 18.5 mm in the left. Magnetic resonance imaging of the orbit revealed a 2.5 cm-sized left posterior ethmoid mucocele.
CONCLUSIONS: To the best of our knowledge, this may

INTRODUCTION: Hamartomas are non-malignant malformations or inborn errors of tissue development. In the head and neck region, especially in the nasal cavity and the ethmoid sinuses, they are relatively rare.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case of respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma of the ethmoid sinus and a review of literature are reported in order to describe the diagnostic and therapeutic management of this tumour.
RESULTS: A 74-year-old man complaining for unilateral nasal obstruction for years was referred to our institution. Clinical and radiological studies revealed a large intra-n

A patient with sinonasal adenocarcinoma is presented with leptomeningeal metastases affecting multiple cranial nerves and spinal nerve roots. Head and neck cancer is known to be an extremely rare source for leptomeningeal metastatic spread. The cranial nerves, the spinal cord and roots and the cerebral hemispheres can be affected in case of leptomeningeal metastatic spread. Examination of the CSF is the hallmark of the diagnosis if leptomeningeal metastatic spread is suspected, but this case illustrates that the combination of specific clinical features on one hand and specific lesions on the

The origin of metastatic tumors in the nasal or paranasal sinuses is often renal cancer, and metastasis to the nasal or paranasal sinuses sometimes takes a long time after nephrectomy. The present paper deals with one patient with metastasis of renal cancer to the ethmoid sinus 2 years after nephrectomy. Even though many metastatic tumors originating from renal cancer develop in multiples, most metastatic tumors in the nasal or paranasal sinuses are single and treated surgically. However, even if multiple tumors are found in the nasal and paranasal region and other organs, surgery will be effe

BACKGROUND: Epistaxis is one of the most common otolaryngological emergencies. In cases of bleeding from the anterior or the lower posterior part of the nose, epistaxis could usually be treated with cauterization and anterior or posterior nasal packing. More invasive methods of treatment are the endonasal coagulation of the sphenopalatine artery and the transantral ligation of the maxillary artery. Bleeding from the upper posterior part of the nose usually originates from the anterior and the posterior ethmoidal artery. In most cases a specific styptic treatment in the upper posterior part of

Although the literature is replete with papers discussing the results of surgery for chronic inflammatory sinus disease, critical comparison of results is difficult due to limited knowledge of the prognostic factors and the variable criteria reported for success. Detailed prospective and retrospective data collection was therefore undertaken to evaluate the results of surgical intervention in 120 patients who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery. Results were evaluated both by symptom questionnaire and by endoscopic follow-up examination. Over 240 data fields were collected on each patient, incl

In the period from 1980 through 1989, we treated 25 (20 postoperative and five primary) cases of mucoceles of the posterior ethmoidal sinus and/or sphenoidal sinus accompanied by visual disturbances. The postoperative mucocele developed 15 to 25 years after initial surgery. Manifestations of mucoceles include headache, ophthalmalgia, double vision, and exophthalmos in addition to a decrease in visual acuity. The degree of improvement in visual acuity after an operation depends on visual acuity before the operation, the mode of development of the mucocele, and the time from onset of the disease

A ten years old male patient, the main symptom was prsented as the left nasal obstruction, repeated hemorrhage with hyposmia. Large translucent neoplasm can be seen in the left side of the nasal cavity. CT and MRI of the nasal sinus showed that the soft tissue density shadow in the left side of the ethmoid sinus and the surrounding bone with no damage. He was treated with nasal endoscopic surgery. Postoperative pathology showed schwannoma. The tumor recurred three years later, and the patient underwent nasal endoscopic surgery again. In the literature we reviewed the case to analyze the reasons
