Predicting Posttraumatic Growth among Firefighters: The Role of Deliberate Rumination and Problem-Focused Coping.

Exposure to work-related traumatic incidents in firefighters may result in positive psychological changes which are termed "posttraumatic growth". This study aimed to construct structure equation modeling based on the model of posttraumatic growth in firefighters. Methods: A total of 226 firefighters who had experienced a work-related traumatic incident participated. The participants from three municipal fire departments and seven fire stations completed an anonymous survey asking about extraversion, optimism, calling in the workplace, problem-focused coping, deliberate rumination, and posttra

Big Five Traits and Tolerance for Uncertainty as Protective Factors of Subjective Well-Being of Students in Martial Law Conditions.

In the context of prolonged martial law and pervasive uncertainty, the psychological well-being of student populations becomes especially vulnerable. This study examines how personality dispositions - namely, the Big Five traits and tolerance for uncertainty - relate to subjective well-being among Ukrainian university students navigating wartime conditions. Using data from 147 participants (M age = 24), predominantly women (78%), studying across various programs in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Zhytomyr, the research explored direct, mediating, and moderating pathways of influence. The analysis revealed

Constructive processes in person cognition.

The notion of constructive memory processes is imported from research on eyewitness memory to the area of social cognition. Mere questioning about the applicability of personality attributes to a target person is shown to affect subsequent memory-based judgements of that person. These constructive influences are to be distinguished, conceptually, from the global notion of priming effects. In Expt 1, the target person was first described as an extravert; afterwards, subjects had to indicate whether either desirable aspects of extraversion (self-confidence) or undesirable aspects (exhibitionism)

[Influence of personality traits on reaction performance in volunteers after a single administration of placebo, crotylbarbital and caffeine].

We examined the influence of single applications of placebo, caffeine (7 mg/kg), and crotylbarbital (2 mg/kg) on reaction and attention performance in 15 volunteers. A newly developed reaction-time apparatus permits the reaction time to be split for differentiation between initiation time and movement time. Moreover, simple and complex attention performance can be quantified. The volunteers were selected as to the dimensions of "introversion/extraversion" and "emotional lability/stability" by means of the Freiburg Personality Inventory. Labile volunteers responded to placebo faster than stable

Using the HEXACO to explain the structure of borderline and psychopathic personality traits.

Research has examined the use of basic personality traits in describing problematic personality traits, such as borderline and psychopathic traits. Specifically, the Honesty-Humility factor of the HEXACO model of personality appears to account for a large proportion of the variance in these traits. The purpose of the present study was to examine whether the HEXACO model would similarly predict borderline traits. As found in previous research, psychopathic traits were predicted by low Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness, whereas borderline traits were found to b

Personality Traits and Tinnitus Distress: Results Based on Patients with Tinnitus in China.

BACKGROUND: Due to the socio-cultural differences between China and other countries, which may affect the development of an individual's personality and behavior, it is necessary to explore the relationship between personality traits and tinnitus distress in the context of China's socio-cultural background. METHODS: The Tinnitus Handicap Inventory and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Short Scale Chinese version were used to explore the influence of personality traits on tinnitus distress in Chinese patients with tinnitus. RESULTS: The results were not entirely consistent with previous s

Psychological risk and protective factors associated with depression among older adults in mainland China: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Although geriatric depression is a public health concern in mainland China, findings about its psychological risk and protective factors have been inconsistent, and its prevention programmes have been deficient. To improve interventions for geriatric depression, we designed a study to systematically estimate the effect size of those factors. METHODS: To identify psychological risk and protective factors of geriatric depression, we conducted two independent literature searches in English- and Chinese-language databases, and we used a random effects model to analyse effect sizes. Online betting intensity is linked with Extraversion and Conscientiousness.

INTRODUCTION: Extraversion and Conscientiousness are well-studied personality traits associated with reward processing and goal prioritization, respectively, and bear on individual differences in financial risk-taking. Using unique large datasets, we investigated the link between these traits and male online gamblers' actual betting participation and intensity. METHOD: We combined datasets containing online horse betting data (during 2015-2016) from the Finnish monopoly betting company, administrative registry data from Statistics Finland, and personality trait measures from the Finnish Defen

Stability and change in the Big Five personality traits: Findings from a longitudinal study of Mexican-origin adults.

A large body of research has documented how personality develops across adulthood, yet very little longitudinal work has examined whether these findings generalize beyond predominantly middle-class, highly educated White American or Western European individuals. This preregistered study uses longitudinal data from 1,110 Mexican-origin adults who completed a well-validated personality measure, the Big Five Inventory, up to six times across 12 years. Individuals generally maintained their rank ordering on the Big Five over time (rs = .66-.80), and the relative ordering of the Big Five within per

Synergistic Effects of Reserve and Adaptive Personality in Multiple Sclerosis.

OBJECTIVES: Cognitive reserve moderates the effects of gray matter (GM) atrophy on cognitive function in neurological disease. Broadly speaking, Reserve explains how persons maintain function in the face of cerebral injury in cognitive and other functional domains (e.g., physical, social). Personality, as operationalized by the Five Factor Model (FFM), is also implicated as a moderator of this relationship. It is conceivable that these protective mechanisms are related. Prior studies suggest links between Reserve and personality, but the degree to which these constructs overlap and buffer the

Personality and aging-related immune phenotype.

An aging-related immune phenotype (ARIP) has been defined as a decrease in naïve T cells (TN) relative to the accumulation of memory T cells (TM). Recent research implicates ARIP measures, such as CD4 +TN/TM and CD8 +TN/TM ratios, in multimorbidity and mortality. This study examined whether psychological dispositions that assess how people think, feel, and behave are related to CD4 +TN/TM and CD8 +TN/TM. Participants were adults aged 50-104 years (N = 4798; 58% women, Mean Age= 67.95, SD= 9.56) from the Health and Retirement Study. Data on CD4 +TN/TM and CD8 +TN/TM were obtained in 2016. Data

Trajectories of college students' general self-efficacy, the related predictors, and depression: A piecewise growth mixture modeling approach.

General self-efficacy plays a critical role in the development of college students, and mastering the development of students' general self-efficacy is helpful to explain students' behavior and psychological performance. Based on the data from the same cohort of college students for four consecutive years, this study used the piecewise growth mixture model to identify the developmental trajectories of general self-efficacy, built a multinomial logistic regression model to analyze the related predictors on different trajectories, and further compared the differences in depression symptoms in ge

Psychological Stress as a Mediator in the Relationships Between Personality Characteristics and Eye-Blinking Behavior.

This study explores the relationship between personality traits, perceived psychological stress, and blinking behavior. The research is grounded in the Big-Five personality model, particularly focusing on neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness, and their associations with stress responses, and physiological markers such as spontaneous blink rate (SBR). Previous studies suggest that personality influences stress and physiological responses; however, the link to blinking behavior remains underexplored. The study hypothesized that neuroticism is positively associated with blinking varia

Personality and Humor Profiles in Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Latent Profile Analysis of Quality of Life and Medication Adherence.

BACKGROUND: Personality and humor styles are independently associated with mental health and health outcomes. However, the combined effects of these factors on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and medication adherence remain under-explored from a person-centered perspective. Understanding psychological profiles may help clinicians identify patients at risk for poor adjustment and suboptimal adherence. AIM: The aim of this study was to identify latent profiles characterized by Extraversion, Neuroticism, self-enhancing humor, and self-defeating humor, specifically among patients diagnosed

Predictors of childhood trajectories of overt and indirect aggression: An interdisciplinary approach.

The aim of this study was to advance our understanding of the development of aggression in boys and girls by testing a model combining insights from both evolutionary theory and developmental psychology. A sample of 744 children (348 girls) between six and 13 years old was recruited in schools with high deprivation indices. Half of the sample (N = 372; 40.1% girls) had received special educational services for behavioral and/or socio-emotional problems. Two trajectories for overt aggression and two trajectories for indirect aggression were identified and binomial logistic regressions were used

Transmissibility and familiality of NEO personality dimensions in a sample of Korean families with schizophrenia.

Categorical syndromes such as schizophrenia may represent complexes of many continuous psychological structural phenotypes along several dimensions of personality development/degeneration. The present study investigated the heritability and familiality of Neuroticism-Extraversion-Openness to experience (NEO) personality dimensions in Korean families with schizophrenic linkage disequilibrium (LD).We have recruited 204 probands (with schizophrenia) with their parents and siblings whenever possible. We have used NEO questionnaires for measuring personality and symptomatic dimensions. Heritabiliti

Negative affectivity predicts individual differences in decision making for preschoolers.

The authors' goal in conducting this study was to explore the association between temperament and future-oriented decision making. Forty-three preschoolers (mean age = 51 months) were given a child variant of the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and asked to choose between a deck with higher immediate rewards and a deck with higher future rewards. Children who were higher on the Extraversion/Surgency factor of the Child Behavior Questionnaire chose more frequently from the higher immediate rewards deck early in the game. Platelet MAO activity and personality characteristics. A study in schizophrenic patients and normal individuals.

Low levels of platelet monoamine oxidase have been found in schizophrenic and bipolar depressive patients. The enzyme activity seems to correlate negatively with certain personality traits (social activity, sensation seeking, hypomania, positive affect and monotony avoidance) which are correlated to some extent with the score "extraversion" from the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). The present study was carried out in an attempt to investigate further the possible correlation between platelet MAO activity and the personality traits measured by the EPQ. 41 schizophrenic patients and 20
