Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis among 150 cases of seronegative spondarthritis.

A painful heel syndrome (plantar fasciitis and/or Achilles tendinitis) was found in 33 among 150 patients suffering from a seronegative spondarthritis. The clinical and radiological manifestations of this syndrome were similar in the nosological entities included in the seronegative spondarthritis group. HLA-B27 antigen was found in 91% of the patients, radiological sacroliitis in 64% and an asymmetric peripheral arthritis in all cases. By contrast, Achilles tendinitis was not encountered in 220 cases of rheumatoid arthritis; plantar fasciitis was exceptional in the same cases.

Efficacy of TOPAZ coblation-assisted percutaneous fasciotomy in chronic plantar fasciitis.

BACKGROUND: Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of chronic heel pain, accounting for up to 10 % of running-related injuries and significantly impacting the quality of life in both active and sedentary populations. While the majority of patients respond to conservative measures such as stretching, physiotherapy, orthoses, steroid injections, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy, approximately 5-10 % remain symptomatic despite prolonged non-operative treatment. Surgical intervention is considered in these refractory cases, with both open and endoscopic plantar fasciotomy tradition

Case study: Epidermoid cyst following percutaneous Topaz coblation for plantar fasciitis.

An epidermoid cyst is formed when there is proliferation of epidermal cells within an area of the dermis. They may be formed by the traumatic implantation of epidermal cells within the dermis as well as many other mechanisms. We present a case of epidermoid cyst formation following Topaz coblation for plantar fasciitis; a complication we believe is yet to be reported in the literature.

Ultrasound Imaging of Plantar Fascia in Apparently Healthy Individuals, Diabetics and Patients With Plantar Fasciitis: A Case-Control Study.

INTRODUCTION: The plantar fascia (PF) is a critical load-bearing structure of the foot, contributing to arch support and gait mechanics. Diabetes mellitus (DM) and plantar fasciitis (PFis) are two distinct conditions that affect the structure and function of the PF. While PFis is typically linked to mechanical overload and localized degeneration, diabetes may lead to more widespread changes in connective tissue consistency and thickness. Although both conditions impact PF morphology, no meta-analysis to date has systematically distinguished the ultrasound features of diabetic fascial thickenin

The relationship between clinical outcomes and gait biomechanics in individuals with plantar fasciitis.

INTRODUCTION: Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a common musculoskeletal disorder characterized by heel pain that disrupts gait and daily function. This study examined relationships between clinical outcomes and gait biomechanics, determined whether these relationships differ between recent- and chronic-onset cases, and identified key clinical predictors of gait speed. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 42 individuals with PF. Clinical outcomes included worst pain, normalized gastrocnemius and soleus muscle length, normalized lower limb muscle strength, and normalized dynamic balance

From Pain to Search: Mapping USA and Global Interest in Plantar Fasciitis.

Background: Plantar fasciitis is a leading cause of heel pain, affecting approximately 10% of the population. Despite its prevalence, treatments may result in symptom recurrence and chronicity, which can significantly increase patient dissatisfaction. Google Trends provides insights into public interest through search volume analysis. This study examines global and USA trends in plantar fasciitis, focusing on temporal, seasonal, and income-based variations. Methods: Google Trends data for "Plantar Fasciitis" (2004-2024) were analyzed for both global and USA search trends. Monthly and seasonal

Plantar Fasciitis: An Autobiographical Case Report From the Perspective of an Athlete and Physician.

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a common cause of foot pain. Individual therapies lack substantial evidence to identify a reliable treatment algorithm, but several modalities have been associated with clinical improvement. This case report reviews the experience of the author, an endurance athlete and physician, who applied various interventions over the course of two years. The goal is to exemplify the challenges typical of PF and offer perspective on solutions that were trialed based on published evidence and systematic application of first principles. Counterintuitive and efficacious therapies ar

Endoscopic Debridement for Treatment of Chronic Plantar Fasciitis: An Innovative Surgical Technique.

Plantar fasciitis is one the most common pathologies seen by foot and ankle surgeons. When nonoperative therapy fails, surgical intervention is warranted. Various surgical procedures are available for the treatment of recalcitrant plantar fasciitis. The most common surgical management typically consists of open versus endoscopic plantar fascia release. The documented comorbidities associated with the release of the plantar fascia include lateral column overload and metatarsalgia. We present a new technique for this painful condition that is minimally invasive, allows visualization of the plant

[Calcaneus fractures as a complication of the percutaneous treatment of plantar fasciitis. Case report].

Plantar fasciitis, a self-limiting pathologic entity, is a common cause of heel pain in adult patients. Surgical treatment is indicated when the patient does not improve after receiving conservative treatment for 4-6 months with proper surveillance. The complications of percutaneous techniques include: infection, persistent pain, and neurologic injuries, among others. We report the case of a patient with calcaneus fracture following percutaneous plantar fasciotomy and resection of a calcaneal spur. We conducted a review and discussion of the literature.

Treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis with Botulinum toxin A: preliminary clinical results.

Based on recent results in chronic lateral epicondylitis we decided to investigate the efficacy of Botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) for treatment of chronic therapy resistant plantar fasciitis. Nine patients with an average duration of symptoms of 14 months and at least two prior conservative treatments received a one injection of 200 units of BTX-A (Dysport) subfascially into the painful area. The patients documented pain at rest and during weight-bearing after 2, 6, 10 and 14 weeks by a visual analogue scale. A significant reduction of pain during weight-bearing to about 50% was seen 6 weeks after

Core Muscle Weakness May Be a Risk Factor for the Development of Plantar Fasciitis.

Introduction Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a common diagnosis in the United States and worldwide. Core musculature helps to stabilize the spine in order to prevent buckling and provide optimal production of motion. Core deficits may contribute to lower extremity injury through kinematic changes in lower extremity movement. There may be an association between a theoretical core muscle deficit and the subsequent development of symptomatic PF. Methods A retrospective case-control study was designed using the Truven Health MarketScan® database. The incidence of new, concurrent PF diagnoses was determi

The Relationship between Calcaneal Spur Type and Plantar Fasciitis in Chinese Population.

Plantar heel pain is a common disease with a high incidence in different races. It significantly reduced the quality of life of patients. However, the cause of PHP is still controversial and there were varieties of physiological factors associated with PHP. The most common pathological factor in the population was plantar fasciitis. Some existing research studies had found a correlation between calcaneal spurs and plantar fasciitis, and this study had found the correlation in Chinese population. It is invaluable not only to understand the relationship between different types of plantar calcane
