Case report on Irritational Fibroma.

Traumatic or irritation fibroma is the healed end product of the inflammatory hyperplastic lesion, which can occur at any age from almost any softtissue site, tongue, gingiva, and buccal mucosa being the most common. It is usually characterized by a slow, painless growth accumulated over a period of months or years.

Parafibromin Abnormalities in Ossifying Fibroma.

Ossifying fibromas are very rare tumors that are sometimes seen as part of the hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor syndrome (HPT-JT), which is caused by inactivating mutations of the HRPT2/CDC73 tumor suppressor gene. CDC73 mutations have been identified in a subset of sporadic cases but aberrant expression of the encoded protein, parafibromin, has not been demonstrated in ossifying fibroma. We sought to determine if loss of parafibromin regularly contributes to the development of sporadic, nonsyndromic ossifying fibroma. We examined a series of 9 ossifying fibromas, including ossifying, cemento-oss

Central ossifying fibroma of mandible.

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a rare, benign, fibro-osseous lesion of the jawbone characterised by replacement of the normal bone with fibrous tissue. The fibrous tissue shows varying amount of calcified structures resembling bone and/or cementum. The central variant of OF is rare, and shows predilection for mandible among the jawbone. Although it is classified as fibro-osseous lesion, it clinically behaves as a benign tumour and can grow to large size, causing bony swelling and facial asymmetry. This paper reports a case of large central OF of mandible in a 40-year-old male patient. The lesion wa

Spinal chondromyxoid fibroma of C2.

Chondromyxoid fibroma of bone (CMF) is a rare benign primary bone neoplasm accounting for less than 0.5% of all primary bone neoplasms. The spine is an uncommon site for this tumour, with forty-two cases reported in the modern English literature. They have clinical features similar to CMF arising at other sites. Local recurrence is well documented. We report an incidentally discovered lytic lesion of the C2 vertebra. The patient underwent stereotactic CT guided trans-oral curettage of the lesion with iliac bone graft and anterior fusion of C2 and C3. Microscopic examination of the surgical spe

[Pleural fibroma revealed by hypoglycemia].

Pleural fibroma or solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura (SFTP) is a rare tumor generally discovered fortuitously or in patients with non-specific respiratory symptoms, more rarely with hypoglycemia. We report the case of a 51-year-old man with a history of smoking (30 pack-years) and no other disease history whose chest x-ray revealed an enormous opacity occupying the lower two-thirds of the left hemithorax. This radiological anomaly had led to episodes of lipothymia three months earlier together with mental confusion in the morning as well as an episode of hypoglycemia (0.48 g/l) which rapidl

[Chondroma, chondroblastoma and chondromyxoid fibroma].

Chondromas are benign tumors characterized by the formation of mature cartilage. Typically, they involve the short bones of the hands and feet. The lesions may be either solitary or multiple as part of enchondromatosis affecting several bones. Cases of multiple enchondromatosis with predominantly unilateral distribution are generally referred to as "Ollier's disease" or when accompanied by multiple hemangiomas as "Maffucci's syndrome". In cases with multiple chondromas there is considerable risk of malignant transformation (approximately 50%). Treatment of single lesions (curettage and bone gr

Case report 728: Desmoplastic fibroma.

A 69-year-old woman with a 25-year history of recurrent sciatica presented with an expanding lytic lesion of the right side of the first sacral vertebra. Histological examination proved the lesion to be a DF. DF is usually diagnosed in young patients and is very rarely located in the spine and sacrum. The growth rate of the tumor was presumed to be very low because it had not progressed from radiological studies performed 9 years previously. The clinical, radiological, and pathological features of DF are described, and the differential diagnoses are discussed. The most difficult problem is to

Rare pediatric presentation of aneurysmal bone cyst with trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma and ossifying fibroma.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign intraosseous lesion characterized by blood filled spaces of varying sizes associated with a fibroblastic stroma containing multinucleated giant cells, osteoid and woven bone. ABC can present either singly or in association with osseous neoplasms such as ossifying fibroma (OF), giant cell granuloma etc. Juvenile ossifying fibroma has two variants: psammomatoid JOF (PJOF) and trabecular JOF (TJOF). ABC formation in TJOF is very rare in pediatric patients with only three cases reported in literature till date to the best of our knowledge. We hereby report th

Peripheral Odontogenic Fibroma in a Child.

Peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POdF) is a rare and benign mesenchymal odontogenic tumor that stands out as a distinctive entity. It is predominantly found in the gingiva and can present as a diagnostic challenging lesion due to its potential resem- blance to reactive oral lesions. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of a POdF in a 10-year-old child and highlight the importance of recognizing this lesion in the pediatric population. This report also explores the essential diagnostic differentials that clinicians should consider when examining a palpable soft tissue nodule with a f

Clinical Impact of Cardiac Fibromas.

Cardiac fibromas are rare primary tumors that can cause significant morbidity and mortality. There has not been a large clinical case review since 1994. This study provides an updated analysis of clinical impact, thereby enhancing understanding, increasing awareness, and revealing important factors in the diagnosis and management of cardiac fibromas. A retrospective case series was conducted at a tertiary care institution by reviewing radiology, surgical and pathology archives (1964 to 2020). Cases were included if cardiac fibroma was diagnosed through imaging or pathology. Demographics, sympt

Lateral canthal fibroma in a dog.

A 9-year-old castrated male pitbull dog was presented for evaluation of a subconjunctival swelling of 10 days duration. On ophthalmic examination, a subcutaneous mass was identified at the right lateral canthus. An excisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of a subcutaneous fibroma. Eleven months after surgical excision, the dog had no evidence of recurrence. Fibroma should be included in the differential diagnosis of rapidly enlarging eyelid masses.

Symptomatic Periungual Fibroma of the Hand.

Periungual fibromas are benign nodules commonly found on acral digital areas that are commonly associated with tuberous sclerosis. They vary in size and are challenging to treat, with a high recurrence rate. We present a case of a patient with a periungual fibroma, which by virtue of its size, was of functional concern. The intraoperative findings and their implications on the clinical outcome, together with a literature review on other treatment modalities, are also presented.

Chondromyxoid Fibroma of the Sacral Spine.

Background and Importance. Chondromyxoid fibromas are rare tumors of cartilaginous origin typically found in long bones. They usually present during the second and third decades of life. In this case report, we describe the case of a 60-year-old male who presented with back pain and was later found to have a sacral mass. Further immunohistochemical analysis determined that the mass was a chondromyxoid fibroma. Clinical Presentation. A 60-year-old male presented with worsening lower back pain over the course of 2 years. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a destructive mass centered at S4 w

Central odontogenic fibroma of the maxilla.

Central odontogenic fibroma (COF) is an uncommon tumor that accounts for 0.1% of all odontogenic tumors; it has been defined as a benign neoplasm of the jaw. Clinically, the lesion grows slowly and leads to cortical expansion. Radiologically, the most common finding is multilocular radiolucency. The lesions are associated with the crown of an unerupted molar, premolar, or incisor tooth and in some cases, with root resorption or displacement. Histologically, the lesion is characterized by mature collagen fibers and numerous fibroblasts. COF responds well to surgical enucleation with no tendency

Tendon sheath fibroma in the thigh.

Tendon sheath fibromas are rare, benign soft tissue tumors that are predominantly found in the fingers, hands, and wrists of young adult men. This article describes a tendon sheath fibroma that developed in the thigh of a 70-year-old man, the only known tendon sheath fibroma to form in this location. Similar to tendon sheath fibromas that develop elsewhere, our patient's lesion presented as a painless, slow-growing soft tissue nodule. Physical examination revealed a firm, nontender mass with no other associated signs or symptoms. Although the imaging appearance of tendon sheath fibromas varies

Cemento-ossifying fibroma of the maxilla.

Despite the fact that cemento-ossifying fibromas of the maxilla may be quite large and locally aggressive, en-bloc excision is achieved by gentle blunt dissection, with the whole tumour mass peeled out from the adjacent structures. Until recently different fibro-osseous tumours that contained cementum were classified together as "cementomas". In 1992 The World Health Organization adopted a new classification that included these fibromas as benign osseous tumours. While such tumours of the mandible are common, those of the maxilla are rare. They are growth products of periodontal membrane remna
