Three Cases of Mandibular Ossifying Fibroma in Cattle.

Neoplastic masses were evaluated in the rostral region of the mandible of three young adult cattle. In all three cases, the masses were macroscopically large, firm, ulcerated, infiltrative, whitish and solid, and led to tooth displacement and loss. Radiographically, the neoplastic masses were intraosseous and radiolucent with foci of radiopacity. Loss of radiopacity due to bone necrosis was seen in the mandibular bone adjacent to the neoplasms. Histologically, well-differentiated, infiltrative non-encapsulated mesenchymal neoplastic proliferation replaced the mandibular bone and extended to th

Esthetic Management of a Recurrent Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma.

INTRODUCTION: A peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) presents similarly to other soft tissue reactive lesions, such as pyogenic granuloma or peripheral giant cell granuloma, and yet the pathogenesis of POFs remains undetermined. Surgical excision is the standard of care for a POF, but given their propensity to present in the esthetic area and likelihood for recurrence, these lesions must be addressed with careful technique to prevent mucogingival defects. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first report to show that complete excision of a recurrent POF followed by a pouch recipien

Fibrous Dysplasia versus Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma: A Dilemma.

Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a condition characterized by excessive proliferation of bone forming mesenchymal cells which can affect one bone (monostotic type) or multiple bones (polyostotic type). It is predominantly noticed in adolescents and young adults. Fibrous dysplasia affecting the jaws is an uncommon condition. The most commonly affected facial bone is the maxilla, with facial asymmetry being the chief complaint. The lesion in many instances is confused with ossifying fibroma (OF). Diagnosis of these two lesions has to be done based on clinical, radiographic, and microscopic findings. He

Cystic Shape Cemento-Ossifying Fibroma of Ethmoid Sinus.

Cemento-ossifying fibromas are a group of rarely occurring benign tumours, developing from the periodontal membrane and varying considerably in appearance and in the progress of the disease. Their common feature is higher or lower production of cemental tissue. In most cases the tumours are small because their cementoma mature quickly and become inactive, which causes the tumour to stop growing. They develop most frequently in the mandible and also in the maxilla. Other sites, such as paranasal cavities, soft tissues and bones of the head, are extremely rare. The case of a cemento-fibrosing tu

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma with massive mandibular involvement.

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF) is a histologic variant of an ossifying fibroma. While an ossifying fibroma varies in appearance, it consists of fibrocellular tissue and mineralized material. JPOF is a rare benign lesion; however, it can be extended locally and mimic a malignant tumor. It is considered a specific clinicopathologic entity, due to its occurrence in children and adolescents, the presence of psammomas, and its purported tendency for local aggressive growth and recurrence. It commonly affects the maxilla, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and ethmoid region. This arti

Ossifying fibroma: a rare cause of orbital inflammation.

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical and radiologic features of 4 cases of ossifying fibroma affecting the orbit and to review the literature on orbital involvement by the tumor. METHODS: Small case series. RESULTS: Four patients (3 children and 1 adult) with ossifying fibromas invading the orbit were examined. Two of the 3 children were examined for ossifying fibromas on the orbital roof. One had the psammomatoid form of the disease and the other the trabecular variant. Despite striking differences in the histologic pattern and in the radiologic appearance of the lesions, both children display

Juvenile active ossifying fibroma. Report of four cases.

Juvenile active ossifying fibroma is a rare lesion seldom seen by neurosurgeons. It originates in the paranasal sinuses during childhood, grows slowly, and encroaches on adjacent orbital and cranial compartments. In the past 3 years, four patients with this lesion were seen (three men and one woman; mean age 28 years). The clinical presentations were different with each patient: sinusitis, meningitis, periorbital pain, and a unique case of a juvenile active ossifying fibroma presenting with high-grade internal carotid artery stenosis and ischemic symptoms. Three patients were treated by transf

Cemento-Ossifying Fibroma of the Mandible: A Case Report.

Benign osseous tumors of mesodermal origin that are included within the group of fibro-osseous lesions include cemento-ossifying fibromas (COFs). The fibrocellular component of these diseases originates from the periodontal ligament, which deposits bone and cementum encased in fibrous tissue. It typically appears in the mandible and presents as a solitary, nonaggressive, slowly developing, asymptomatic, expansile lesion, rarely occurring in the maxilla. The only intervention that proved to be successful in producing excellent outcomes and that may be regarded as a final therapeutic option is t

The Management of Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma: A Case Presentation.

One of the most frequent conditions found in the oral cavity includes reactive lesions. Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a prevalent condition characterized by an overgrowth, originating from the gingival tissue, periodontal ligament, and periosteum. The condition manifests as a small mucosal nodule and can be difficult to accurately identify since it resembles other lesions. Chronic irritation and trauma are considered to be etiological agents. It is more prevalent in females and typically impacts the anterior region of the maxilla and mandible. The recommended therapy for POF involves s

Ossifying Fibroma in a Patient With Oculocerebrocutaneous (Delleman) Syndrome.

Delleman syndrome is a rare neurocutaneous disorder characterized by congenital anomalies affecting the eye, skin, and central nervous system. This disorder was first raised as a distinct syndromic entity by Delleman and Oorthuys in 1981 under the term "oculocerebrocutaneous syndrome" (OCCS). Since then, fewer than 40 cases have been reported. All cases have been sporadic, and no patient with an abnormal karyotype has been reported. Although the etiology is still unknown, several theories have been advanced. Most of the tissues affected by OCCS are neural crest derivatives, with a striking hom

Juvenile ossifying fibroma of the mandible: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws, including juvenile ossifying fibroma, pose diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties due to their clinical, radiological and histological variability. The aim of this study was to report the outcome of a 9 years old girl with diagnosed juvenile ossifying fibroma treatment. METHODS: A 9 years old girl presented with a 6 x 8 cm sized hard fixed tumour on right ramus and corpus of the mandible. On the radiological examination tumour showed an irregular but well bordered, unilocular and expansive lesion on the right corpus and ramus of the mandible. Th

Peripheral ossifying fibroma and pyogenic granuloma. Are they interrelated?

Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) and pyogenic granuloma (PG) belong to the group of "focal reactive overgrowths," having different histomorphologic representations. The pathogenesis of POF remains controversial. It has been observed that POF in some cases may initially develop as a PG that undergoes subsequent fibrous maturation and calcification. A case of focal reactive gingival overgrowth with a recurrence is presented. Clinical, radiological and histological examinations were performed and included a detailed history of the lesions to come up with the proper diagnosis. The primary lesion

Peripheral ossifying fibromas: a series of 500 cases.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the clinical and histopathologic features of peripheral ossifying fibromas (POFs). STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective search of the archives of our diagnostic oral pathology service was performed for POFs diagnosed from January 1, 2017 to September 1, 2025. RESULTS: There were 500 POFs in 474 patients. The female-to-male ratio was 1.6:1, and the mean age was 35.6 years. The anterior maxilla was the most common location. The majority of lesions were pink to red in colour, with a pedunculated base. They were frequently ulcerated (69.8%). Possible local and systemic contri

Two cases of multiple ossifying fibromas in the jaws.

BACKGROUND: The clinicopathologic characteristics of multiple ossifying fibroma (OF) are unclear due to the condition's rarity, making diagnosis challenging. Sporadic multiple OFs must be distinguished from hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumour syndrome (HPT-JT) related OF and other fibro-osseous lesions. METHODS: Multiple OF cases were identified from ossifying fibroma cases. Clinical data including age, sex, anatomic site, radiographic features, clinical impression, treatment and available follow-up data as well as serum calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) were recorded.
