BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to assess the patient demographics, epidemiology, mechanism of injury, and natural history of pelvic apophyseal avulsion fractures.

We report a rare case of Galeazzi fracture-dislocation with an irreducible distal radioulnar joint. The cause of the irreducibility was entrapment of a fragment avulsed from the fovea of the ulna. The patient was successfully treated with open reduction and internal fixation of the radius, ulnar styloid process and avulsed fracture at the fovea of the ulna.

Avulsion injuries of the brachial plexus with occipital condyle fractures are very rare and usually result from motor vehicle accidents. This paper presents an analysis of the case of a 24-year-old male patient who sustained both these injuries in a car accident. Computed tomography revealed a fracture of the right occipital condyle and a magnetic resonance scan showed spinal nerve disruption at the C3-C7 level on the left. The patient underwent conservative treatment.

Three cases of acute dorsal avulsion fracture of the scaphoid are presented. Anatomical and radiological studies indicate that these fractures arise from a ridge on the dorsum of the scaphoid at the distal end of the radial facet. This is not the site suggested by other authors. The clinical significance of these fractures is that they are only visible on the 45 degrees anteroposterior oblique X-ray view of the scaphoid. Without this view they are indistinguishable from X-ray negative scaphoid fractures, since both have similar clinical signs and isotope bone scans.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric subscapularis tears are known to be rare injuries. They are often associated with an avulsion fragment of the lesser tuberosity leading to dual description in the literature of either subscapularis tear or lesser tuberosity avulsion. Historically, they were managed nonoperatively; however, outcomes have improved with operative management. Nonoperative management often led to bony overgrowth at the lesser tuberosity that limited motion.
