Frontline healthcare worker barriers impacting tuberculosis service demand and access in high burden settings: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Extensive literature exists on health-seeking behaviour and barriers related to the uptake of tuberculosis (TB)-related services in high TB burden settings. However, prior reviews have focused on patient- and health facility/systems-level barriers to TB-related care. In this scoping review, we aimed to synthesise frontline healthcare worker (FLHCW)-related barriers that limit individuals' demand for, access to, and retention in TB services. METHODS: We searched PubMed for studies describing FLHCW-related barriers that impact demand for and/or access to TB services (preventive trea

A prospective study of transdiagnostic psychiatric symptoms associated with burnout and functional difficulties in COVID-19 frontline healthcare workers.

OBJECTIVE: Frontline healthcare workers (FHCWs) responding to the COVID-19 pandemic develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms. Such symptoms are associated with burnout, occupational and relational difficulties. In the current study, we examined the prospective association between acute transdiagnostic COVID-19-related PTSD, MDD, and GAD symptoms at pandemic outset, and burnout and functional difficulties several months later in FHCWs in New York City. METHODS: Wave 1 symptoms of COVID-19-related PTSD, MDD, an

Background: Studies have shown that working in frontline healthcare roles during epidemics and pandemics was associated with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to identify demographic, work-related and other predictors for clinically significant PTSD, depression, and anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic in UK frontline health and social care workers (HSCWs), and to compare rates of distress across different groups of HCSWs working in different roles and settings. Methods: A convenience sample (n = 1194) of frontline UK HC

Coincidence analysis: Identifying factors contributing to frontline health workers' confidence to face future pandemics across Honduras, Syria, and South Sudan.

Frontline health workers in humanitarian settings play a critical role in pandemic response, yet evidence on what sustains response readiness beyond the emergency is limited. This study examined factors associated with primary healthcare workers' sustained self-reported knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond to future outbreaks or pandemics, with the configurational analysis focused on confidence. A retrospective cross-sectional survey was conducted among 118 health workers in Honduras, Syria, and South Sudan who received COVID-19 training. Coincidence analysis was applied with a set of

Efficacy of Yoga Nidra on Depression, Anxiety, and Insomnia in Frontline COVID-19 Healthcare Workers: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a surge of mental health disturbances and the subsequent use of various mind-body therapies. Although evidence supports the benefits of yoga for mental health in a variety of disease states, information on its effects among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 epidemic is scarce. Therefore, this study evaluated and compared the efficacy of relaxation to music and yoga nidra on the mental health of frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic. This open-label randomized trial was conducted at a Level III COVID-19 care center. In the Relaxation-to-Music Gro

The Cross-Sectional Relations of COVID-19 Fear and Stress to Psychological Distress among Frontline Healthcare Workers in Selangor, Malaysia.

Previous pandemics have demonstrated short and long-term impacts on healthcare workers' mental health, causing knock-on effects on patient care and professional functioning. Indeed, the present COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented disruption in social interactions and working conditions. Malaysia has been under the Recovery Movement Control Order since June 2020; however, with the upsurge of cases, healthcare workers face pressure not only from working in resource-deprived settings but also from the increasing patient load. The primary objective of the present study was to examine the c

METHODS: A short online survey was posted between April 12 to July 31, 2021 targeted at health and social care workers (HCWs) across the globe. RESULTS: 275 from 37 countries responded. Most were hospital or primary care physicians or nurses, 59% women, aged 18-60 years, and 21% had chronic conditions with most prevalent being diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. We found that most HCWs (93%) had taken or willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. While
