Fusariumic Acids I and J, Two New Phytotoxic Isocassadiene-Type Diterpenoids from Tomato Fusarium Crown and Root Rot Pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici.

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici (Forl) is the etiological agent of tomato Fusarium crown and root rot (FCRR), a devastating soil-borne disease that severely compromises global tomato production. The pathogenicity of Forl has been increasingly linked to its capacity to produce phytotoxic isocassadiene-type diterpenoids. In this study, Forl was cultured in rice medium to obtain Forl cultures, which were used for the separation and identification of secondary metabolites. After removing the known metabolites, two new isocassadiene-type diterpenoid compounds, namely fusariumic acids

Benzalkonium Chloride and Benzethonium Chloride Effectively Reduce Spore Germination of Ginger Soft Rot Pathogens: Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysporum.

Ginger soft rot is a serious soil-borne disease caused by Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysporum, resulting in reduced crop yields. The application of common chemical fungicides is considered to be an effective method of sterilization, and therefore, they pose a serious threat to the environment and human health due to their high toxicity. Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) and benzethonium chloride (BEC) are two popular quaternary ammonium salts with a wide range of fungicidal effects. In this study, we investigated the fungicidal effects of BAC and BEC on soft rot disease of ginger as alternatives

Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy with phenothiazinium photosensitizers in non-vertebrate model Galleria mellonella infected with Fusarium keratoplasticum and Fusarium moniliforme.

Fusarium keratoplasticum and Fusarium moniliforme are filamentous fungi common in the environment and cause mycosis in both animals and plants. Human infections include mycetoma, keratitis and onychomycosis, while deeper mycosis occurs in immunocompromised patients. Most of the Fusarium spp. are frequently resistant to treatment with currently used antifungals. The frequent occurrence of antifungal resistance has motivated the study of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy as an alternative treatment for fungal infections. Many studies have investigated the in vitro use of antimicrobial photodyna

Screening of Nonpathogenic Fusarium Species Suppressing Fusarium Crown and Root Rot in Asparagus Using Wheat Bran as an Inoculum Carrier.

Fusarium crown and root rot (FCRR), caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. asparagi, is one of the most destructive diseases affecting asparagus worldwide. Despite evidence of the suppression of FCRR by several nonpathogenic F. oxysporum sensu lato strains in laboratory experiments, biological control trials in FCRR-infested fields have not consistently demonstrated the effectiveness of these strains. Therefore, we screened nonpathogenic Fusarium spp. strains for the biological control of FCRR with the modified inoculation method considering the colonization to soil of biocontrol agent

Evaluating the antifungal efficacy and bioactive metabolites of a traditional polyherbal aqueous formulation BioCC+ against Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium verticillioides.

Fungal contamination of cereal crops threatens global food security by compromising grain quality and introducing harmful mycotoxins that endanger human and animal health. In West Africa, the long-standing ancestral use of native plant extracts to manage fungal contamination provides sustainable and locally adaptable solutions. Building on this knowledge, BioCC+, a polyherbal aqueous formulation containing Azadirachta indica, Cymbopogon citratus, Allium sativum and Capsicum frutescens, was developed to control maize contamination during storage in Côte d'Ivoire. This study evaluated the antifu

Positive quantitative PCR detecting Fusarium solani in a case of mixed invasive fungal disease due to Mucorales and Fusarium solani.

We present a case of invasive fungal co-infection in a young patient treated for an acute myeloid leukemia and having undergone a twice-haploid matched unrelated donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) with two different donors. A mucormycosis diagnosis was made shortly after the patient's admission using imagery and specific Mucorales qPCR which was treated with liposomal amphotericin B and posaconazole. Twenty days later, a blood culture was positive for Fusarium solani, and disseminated cutaneous lesions appeared. The antifungal treatment was changed to liposomal amphotericin B

FcRav2, a gene with a ROGDI domain involved in Fusarium head blight and crown rot on durum wheat caused by Fusarium culmorum.

Fusarium culmorum is a soil-borne fungal pathogen which causes foot and root rot and Fusarium head blight on small-grain cereals, in particular wheat and barley. It causes significant yield and quality losses and results in the contamination of kernels with type B trichothecene mycotoxins. Our knowledge of the pathogenicity factors of this fungus is still limited. A transposon tagging approach based on the mimp1/impala double-component system has allowed us to select a mutant altered in multiple metabolic and morphological processes, trichothecene production and virulence. The flanking regions

A new strain of Fusarium sp. with antimicrobial activity.

Fungi have been considered important in the development of new pharmaceuticals and agricultural compounds due to their metabolic diversity. In this study, a fungus associated with Lactarius aff. fragilis was isolated. Strain PH130 was molecularly identified by analyzing the ITS and tef1-α regions, which belongs to a strain of Fusarium sp. Phylogenetic results showed that it is evolutionarily related to F. beomiforme. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of strain PH130 against fungi and bacteria of agricultural and clinical interest. The results of dual confrontat

Meningoencephalitis caused by Fusarium proliferatum: an unusual case.

Meningoencephalitis can be a diagnostic dilemma and one of its etiology are infectious causes including fungal agents. Fusarium species have attracted much attention as one of the invasive fungal infections. Major clinical manifestations of infections due to Fusarium spp. are broad such as keratitis, endophthalmitis, sino-pulmonary and central nervous system (CNS) infections. However, CNS fusariosis is rare and often happens due to hematogenous dissemination from other sites. Herein, we describe an unusual case of meningoencephalitis caused by Fusarium proliferatum, in a patient with rheumatoi

Tolerance and mycoremediation of silver ions by Fusarium solani.

Silver ions discharged from various industries, are potentially toxic to living organisms at low concentrations, thus, there is an increasing need for development of an eco-friendly and cost-effective approach for its bioremediation. Filamentous fungi especially, Fusarium solani displayed a strong resistance to copper and cadmium ions as revealed from our previous study (El-Sayed 2014), however, the mechanisms of silver resistance by this fungus has not been resolved yet. Thus, this study was an extension to our previous work, to elucidate the mechanism of silver ions resistance and biotransfo

Fusarium onychomycoses in Switzerland-A mycological and histopathological study.

Onychomycoses in temperate climates are most commonly due to dermatophytes, particularly Trichophyton rubrum. Non-dermatophyte nail infections are much less frequent, and their diagnosis requires a careful and repeated search for a potential dermatophyte that may have been overgrown in culture. A series of histological slides of suspected onychomycoses with uncommon fungal morphology prompted us to search for non-dermatophytic moulds causing dermatophytosis-like nail infections. Thirty cases were identified by culture as F solani, F oxysporum, F dimerum or F spp, and two more were only diagnos

[Ocular manifestations and management of Fusarium and Sarocladium infections].

Since 2017, the nomenclature of Fusarium, Acremonium and Sarocladium species have changed, as these morphologically homogeneous, but phylogenetically heterogeneous species and species complexes may be differentiated using MALDI-TOF MS examination, analyzing nucleotic sequences. This resulted in taxonomical changes. We summarize the clinical course, diagnostic and therapeutic options of keratitis caused by Fusarium and Sarocladium. The challenge of Fusarium and Sarocladium keratitis management for an ophthalmologist lies in delayed diagnosis and therapy, fulminant progression and penetration of

Nondermatophytic onychomycosis by Fusarium oxysporum in an immunocompetent host.

Fusarium onychomycosis is not uncommon in tropical countries but is worth reporting. We report a case of nondermatophytic onychomycosis by Fusarium oxysporum in an immunocompetent woman from Buldhana district of Maharashtra (India). Bilateral involvement of great toe nail, chronic duration and acquisition of infection due to peculiar practice of daily pasting floors with mud and dung, is interesting. The case was successfully treated with topical and oral terbinafine with a dose of 250 mg daily for 3 weeks.

Radiologic findings of Fusarium pneumonia in neutropenic patients.

In neutropenic patients, lungs are involved in 50%-80% of cases of fusariosis, but imaging of pulmonary fusariosis has been previously described as indistinguishable from other invasive mould diseases. Our attempt was to identify a radiological pattern that may distinguish pulmonary fusariosis from other mould diseases. We examined the CT findings of nine neutropenic haematology patients with invasive fusariosis. As control group for comparison, we examined 14 invasive mould diseases (11 aspergillosis, 3 mucormycosis) in haematology patients with similar underlying disease and timing of CT ima

[Tinea pedis due to Fusarium solani in Dakar].

A patient presented with intertrigo at the second, third and fourth interdigitals spaces lasting for four years in which Fusarium solani was highlighted. The search for contributing factors revealed a concept of foot washing with water at least five times a day for ablutions, associated with wearing closed shoes all day and the absence of immunosuppression and diabetes. The diagnosis of Fusarium was made on the basis of direct examination and culture. Combined treatment with griseofulvin oral and topical ciclopirox was introduced and allowed healing after 45 days at which an antifungal powder
