Chemical composition and nutritional properties of Gastrodia elata water extract and its effects in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetic osteoporosis.

INTRODUCTION: Gastrodia elata Blume (G. elata) is an edible medicinal homologous plant with a long history of use. However, to date, there is no evidence of the nutritional components and anti-diabetic and osteoporotic effects of the water extract of G. elata (WGE). METHODS: In this study, WGE was prepared and analyzed for moisture, ash, protein, lipid, mineral, amino acid, total phenolic, and flavonoid content. WGE was analyzed using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS). Furthermore, the effect of WGE on strepto

Evaluate how steaming and sulfur fumigation change the microstructure, physicochemical properties and in vitro digestibility of Gastrodia elata Bl. starch.

The sulfur dioxide gas (SO2) generated by sulfur burning can improve the appearance quality of food and enhance the storage time. However, excessive sulfur dioxide will pollute the environment and cause deterioration of food quality, and even the high residual levels can increase the risk of cancer. As Gastrodia elata Blume is prone to corruption during processing, sulfur fumigation is often used for preservation. In this study, spectral analysis and Texture Profile Analysis (TPA) were used to investigate the effects of traditional sulfur fumigation processing on the morphology quality, edible

Revisiting a more than century-old study on the mycorrhiza of Gastrodia elata: Rediscovery and scientific significance of slide preparations.

Microscope slide preparations made for the observation of the mycorrhiza of the mycoheterotrophic orchid Gastrodia elata were rediscovered and confirmed to be the original materials used by Shunsuke Kusano for his 1911 publication. In this study, we re-examined these historical slides to assess their preservation and scientific significance. Among the 115 slides, 61 clearly displayed the mycorrhiza of G. elata. Intracellular organelles closely resembling the 'vesicle', 'globule', 'tubular sheath', 'globular bodies', and 'lignified papillae' described by Kusano were observed, and staining react

Identification of key anti-neuroinflammatory components in Gastrodiae Rhizoma based on spectrum-effect relationships and its mechanism exploration.

Gastrodiae Rhizoma was proven to have anti-inflammatory activity based on its main component of 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol (4-HBA) and gastrodin (GAS). However, the anti-inflammatory activity of other phenols has been less reported. In this study, the n-BuOH extract was selected as the active anti-inflammatory part of Gastrodiae Rhizoma based on the LPS-induced inflammatory BV-2 cells. The spectral-effect relationship analysis of the n-BuOH extract showed the main effective components were GAS, 4-HBA, parishin A (PA), parishin B (PB), and parishin C (PC). Among them, PB could reduce LPS-induced e

In vitro and in vivo immune-enhancing effects of polysaccharides with different molecular weights and structural characteristics from Gastrodia elata Blume.

Research on high-molecular-weight polysaccharides tends to be more difficult and lag in terms of their fine structures and bioavailability. We focused on Gastrodia elata Blume polysaccharides (GEPs) with different molecular weights and structural characteristics to reveal their bioactivities, especially those abundant high-molecular-weight GEPs. A novel high-yield polysaccharide (GEP1-2) with the high molecular weight of 3.21 × 106 Da was first purified. Through conventional and enzymolysis-assisted analyses, GEP1-2 was an α-D-(1,4)(1,6)-glucan with unique linkages of →2)-β-D-Frucf-(1→, →4)-β-
