Adenomatoid Tumor of the Pericardium: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Adenomatoid tumors (ATs) are rare benign neoplasms of mesothelial origin, commonly found in the genital tracts but occasionally reported in extragenital locations, including the thoracic cavity. We describe the second case of a pericardial AT in a 65-year-old male with multiple comorbidities, including end-stage renal disease, diabetes mellitus, and heart failure. A small pericardial nodule was incidentally discovered during coronary artery bypass graft surgery without any clinical evidence of pericardial thickening. Histopathologic evaluation showed a well-circumscribed nodule with solid nest

Granular cell tumor presenting in the scrotum of a pediatric patient: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Granular cell tumors are neoplasms of Schwann cell origin. They typically arise in the head and neck of adults, with the tongue being the most common location; granular cell tumors of male genitalia are exceedingly rare. We identified only eight prior cases of scrotal granular cell tumor in the literature, and only one was in a child. Herein, we report a second case of childhood scrotal granular cell tumor and provide a review of the most relevant literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A fifteen-year-old hispanic boy was referred to our hospital's pediatric surgery service for a painless

Detection and localization of human papillomavirus in penile condylomas and squamous cell carcinomas using in situ hybridization with biotinylated DNA viral probes.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been previously demonstrated in male genital neoplasms using Southern blot hybridization (SBH) and in situ hybridization with radiolabeled probes (ISH-R). In this study we used in situ hybridization with biotinylated DNA viral probes (ISH-B), a technique that can be applied to routinely collected and processed tissue. Thirty cases of exophytic penile condyloma acuminatum and nine cases of invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the penis were examined for the presence of HPV using ISH-B for HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, and 33. HPV DNA was found in 25 of 30 (83%) peni

Non-Hodgkin's primary lymphoma involving the genitourinary tract: histopathological experience from two tertiary hospitals, Western region, Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract and male genital organ lymphoid neoplasms are uncommon, accounting for less than 5% of all primary extranodal lymphomas. There have only been a few small case series and isolated case reports describing the primary sites and subtypes of these neoplasms. The aim of the study is to investigate the pathological characteristics of patients diagnosed with primary Genitourinary (GU) lymphoma in at two major hospitals. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We obtained cases that were diagnosed with primary GU lymphomas between 2005 and 2020. Pathology and immunohistochemistry slides were r

Cancer incidence rate ratios of Turkish immigrants in Hamburg, Germany: A registry based study.

The aim of this study was to estimate cancer incidence rate ratios for Turkish migrants in Hamburg, Germany. We used a name-based approach and identified 1346 cases with Turkish names (as a proxy of Turkish origin) among 140,249 cases of cancer registered in the cancer registry Hamburg during 1990-2005. To estimate the size of the denominator population, we applied the name-based approach to the population of Hamburg as well. The cancer incidence of specific cancer sites was compared between Turkish and non-Turkish cases using incidence rate ratios (IRR), stratified by gender and birth cohort.

Radiologic and clinicopathologic features of eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma: report of two cases and review of literature.

Eosinophilic Solid and Cystic Renal Cell Carcinoma (ESC RCC) is a rare entity described in the latest WHO Classification of Urinary and Male Genital Tumours (2022 edition). It is a neoplasm that occurs most often in a sporadic setting, with no association with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). It typically presents as a well demarcated, non-encapsulated lesion, with solid and cystic architecture, composed of cells with voluminous eosinophilic cytoplasm and cytoplasmic stippling. Tumor cells are at least focally immunohistochemically (IHC) reactive for CK20. CD10 and Cathepsin K are positive in

Adenomatoid Tumor of the Adrenal Gland in Young Woman: From Clinical and Radiological to Pathological Study.

Adenomatoid tumors are neoplasms of mesothelial origin, usually occurring in the male and female genital tracts. Extragenital localization sites such as adrenal glands are rare but have been reported. When found in the adrenals, they represent great clinical, radiological and pathological diagnostic challenge, with wide range of differential diagnoses to be considered. We present a case of a 30 years old female, with incidental ultrasound finding of unilateral tumor in the right adrenal gland. Multi slices CT scan was of value in localizing this tumor, but not in the precise diagnosis. The tum

Therapy for genital warts.

This article presents the spectrum of genital wart infection, including possible subclinical infection and reinfection from partners. Present therapy is effective in warts of recent onset but usually requires multiple treatments and is painful, and warts are frequently recurrent. Trials of combination therapy appear to have greater efficacy than does single-agent treatment. Problems for the future include the best management of warts in the sexually abused child, the immunocompromised host, and the pregnant patient. Genital warts are increasingly linked with the potential development of carcin

Adenomatoid tumor of the adrenal gland: a clinicopathologic study of 3 cases.

Adenomatoid tumors are relatively uncommon benign neoplasms of mesothelial origin, usually occurring in the male and female genital tracts. Rare extragenital adenomatoid tumors have been identified in the adrenal glands, heart, mesentery, pleura, and lymph nodes. In the adrenal gland, adenomatoid tumors may pose a diagnostic challenge. The differential diagnosis includes adrenocortical carcinoma and metastatic carcinoma, especially signet ring cell carcinoma. Because of its glandular pattern, an adenomatoid tumor may be confused with an adenocarcinoma. We present 3 cases of adrenal adenomatoid

Updating the natural history of human papillomavirus and anogenital cancers.

This chapter addresses the natural history of anogenital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Cervical infections are the best understood HPV infection. Cervical HPV persistence is the known necessary event for the development of cervical cancer. New infections appearing at any age are benign unless they persist. Several long-term natural history studies have now shed light on the very low risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 3+ in women past the peak of HPV acquisition (e.g., 30 or older) who are HPV-negative or clear their HPV. Although data on transmission of HPV are finally em

Cutaneous myeloid sarcoma of the penile foreskin.

Myeloid sarcoma, considered to herald the onset of a blast crisis in the setting of chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm/dysplasia, typically presents during the course of the disorder. Cutaneous involvement is uncommon and lesions on genital skin are seldom seen. We present a case of a well-differentiated myeloid sarcoma in the penile foreskin in an apparently healthy 29-year-old male presenting with phimosis. The unusual composition of the inflammatory cell infiltrate, and characteristic sparing of dermal blood vessels, nerves and smooth muscle fibres led to the correct diagnosis. Absence of

Multiple extragenital adenomatoid tumors in the mesocolon and omentum.

Adenomatoid tumors are benign mesothelial neoplasms most commonly found in the male and female genital tracts. Extragenital adenomatoid tumors are rare, most of them being solitary tumors. To our knowledge, only one case of multiple extragenital adenomatoid tumors, involving the liver and peritoneum, has been reported to date. Here we report another case of multiple extragenital adenomatoid tumors involving the mesocolon and omentum. A 47-year-old woman presented with a delayed menstrual period. Ultrasonography revealed a left adnexal mass, and surgical resection was attempted at a local hospi

Canine cryptorchism and subsequent testicular neoplasia: case-control study with epidemiologic update.

A retrospective study of 2,912 cryptorchid dogs identified 14 breeds with significantly high risk. Among six distinct closely interrelated breed groups (e.g., toy, miniature, and standard poodles), the risk in the smaller breed was always greater than that in the larger relative, suggesting that genetically influenced maldescent could be, in part, related to physical size or the rate of growth of the involved structures. Testicular tumors were diagnosed in 5.7% of the cryptorchid dogs; half had only Sertoli cell tumors, one-third had only seminomas. The relative risk for Sertoli cell tumor or

Human papillomavirus infection: a potentially carcinogenic sexually transmitted disease (condylomata acuminata, genital warts).

Human papillomavirus is a sexually transmitted virus that has been associated with intraepithelial neoplasia. The incidence and prevalence of the disease has risen dramatically, to epidemic proportions, within the last two decades. Risk factors for HPV are similar to those for intraepithelial neoplasia: early onset of sexual activity, multiple sexual partners, high-risk sexual practices, and poor hygiene. Health care workers need to screen all patients for HPV through the use of a comprehensive history, including sexual history, a thorough physical examination, and appropriate laboratory metho

Genital warts and molluscum contagiosum.

Genital warts (condylomata acuminata) and molluscum contagiosum have a significant sexual mode of transmission. They are considered "minor," nonreportable sexually transmitted diseases. As with most lesions, the differential diagnosis must exclude other malignant and nonmalignant diseases. The etiology, diagnosis, management, and epidemiology of both diseases are presented separately.
