This study developed an emulsion delivery system using fish skin gelatin (FSG) and pectin (PEC) as complex emulsifiers to encapsulate benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC). The stability and BITC release profile of the FSG-PEC emulsion were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Results indicated that the FSG-PEC emulsion significantly enhanced BITC bioavailability compared to water emulsion and single emulsifier systems, achieving targeted delivery. The BITC-loaded FSG-PEC emulsion significantly increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, reduced low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, cholesterol, a

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a multidimensional disease associated with poor glycemic control through compromised sensitivity of pancreatic islet α and β cells against glucose and dwindled secretion of insulin which is linked with the quantity of incretin hormones that are abridged by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) in diseased condition. Vildagliptin (VG) inhibits DPP-4 therefore regulates the incretins that conversely maintains glycemic control. The safe reach and absorption of VG from intestine was dubious. Therefore we used Electrostatic Attraction Method to develop drug loaded DNA nanotechn

Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic, non-communicable condition that causes insulin resistance and β-cell malfunction over time. The traditional food scene in India has changed dramatically as a result of rising urbanization and increased consumption of processed, Westernized diets heavy in refined carbs, saturated fats, and added sugars. These dietary changes have greatly contributed to the increased prevalence of type 2 diabetes. Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is a systematic approach to nutrition management that aims to improve metabolic regulation and treatment results

This study aimed to evaluate the association between a dietary education approach grounded in the transtheoretical model and cognitive load theory and glycemic control and pregnancy-related outcomes in patients diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). A retrospective analysis was performed using clinical data from 126 pregnant women with GDM who received care at our hospital between September 2021 and September 2023. Participants were grouped based on the type of nursing intervention received: a control group that underwent standard care and an observation group that received an add

OBJECTIVE: We investigated, using population-based data, whether worse autonomic function, estimated from lower 24-hour heart rate variability (HRV), was associated with beta cell function, assessed from beta cell response during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We used cross-sectional data from The Maastricht Study, a population-based cohort study (N = 2,007; age, mean ± SD:60 ± 8 years; 52% men; and 24% with type 2 diabetes). We used linear regression analyses with adjustment for potential confounders (demographic, cardiovascular, and lifestyle factors) to

BACKGROUND: In Hispanic children and adolescents, the prevalence of obesity and insulin resistance is considerably greater than in non-Hispanic white children. A low-glycemic load diet (LGD) has been proposed as an effective dietary intervention for pediatric obesity, but to our knowledge, no published study has examined the effects of an LGD in obese Hispanic children.
OBJECTIVE: We compared the effects of an LGD and a low-fat diet (LFD) on body composition and components of metabolic syndrome in obese Hispanic youth.
DESIGN: Obese Hispanic children (7-15 y of age) were randomly assigned to

Observational evidence suggests that dietary glycemic load may be one environmental factor contributing to the variation in acne prevalence worldwide. To investigate the effect of a low glycemic load (LGL) diet on endocrine aspects of acne vulgaris, 12 male acne sufferers (17.0 +/- 0.4 years) completed a parallel, controlled feeding trial involving a 7-day admission to a housing facility. Subjects consumed either an LGL diet (n = 7; 25% energy from protein and 45% from carbohydrates) or a high glycemic load (HGL) diet (n = 5; 15% energy from protein, 55% energy from carbohydrate). INTRODUCTION: Preoperative carbohydrate loading is an effective method to control postoperative insulin resistance. However, data are limited concerning the effects of carbohydrate loading on preoperative hyperglycemia and possible impacts on complication rates.
METHODS: A prospective cohort study was performed of patients enrolled in an enhanced recovery after surgery pathway at a single institution. All patients underwent laparotomy for known or suspected gynecologic malignancies. Patients who had been diagnosed with diabetes preoperatively and those prescribed total parenteral nutrition by

OBJECTIVE: The International Diabetes Federation has proposed 1-hour plasma glucose (1-h PG) as a potential indicator for the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to systematically compare the diagnostic performance of 1-h PG, glycated albumin (GA), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and the combined HbA1c-or-FPG strategy for identifying T2DM using a network meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy.
METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, and gray literature for studies evaluating the

BACKGROUND: The improvement in insulin resistance and acne lesions on low glycemic load diets in various studies suggests that diet plays a significant role in acne pathogenesis.
AIMS: To compare the efficacy of a low glycemic load diet plus topical benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel with that of only topical benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel in grades 1, 2 and 3 of acne vulgaris.
METHODS: In a randomized controlled trial, 84 patients with grades 1, 2 and 3 acne vulgaris were divided into two groups, to receive a low glycemic load diet and no dietary intervention respectively. Acne lesions (face) were scored

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is closely associated with central obesity, which further elevates cardiovascular disease risk. This randomized, open-label, parallel-controlled trial aimed to compare the effects of a low glycemic load (LGL) diet and a conventional energy-restricted diet on central obesity and lipid-related metabolic abnormalities in newly diagnosed T2DM patients following short-term intensive insulin therapy (SIIT). All participants received a 2-week course of SIIT before being randomly allocated to either the control group receiving a conventional energy-restricted diet (25-3

Overconsumption of sugar-sweetened beverages may increase the risk of health problems and so, the evaluation of their glycemic load and fructose-intolerance level is essential since it may allow establishing possible relations between physiologic effects of sugar-rich beverages and health. In this work, an electronic tongue was used to accurately classify beverages according to glycemic load (low, medium or high load) as well to their adequacy for people suffering from fructose malabsorption syndrome (tolerable or not): 100% of correct classifications (leave-one-out cross-validation) using lin

BACKGROUND: While artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) are widely reported to have minimal glycemic impact compared to sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), their effects in mixed meal conditions and individual variability in response remain poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate postprandial glycemic response (PPGR) and individual variability in response to an SSB (regular cola) and an ASB (zero cola), both in single and mixed conditions, using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).
METHODS: A total of 66 healthy young adults participated in this 14-day, non-randomized crossover interv
