Multi-Mycotoxin Quantification in Soy Protein Powders, Soymilk, Soybeans (Glycine max) and Other Legumes Using a New Targeted Differential Ion Mobility LCMS Method.

Foods contaminated with fungal mycotoxins pose a serious risk to human health. Soy and other legumes are a vital source of alternative protein, yet the rates of mycotoxin contamination are not understood. We therefore developed a sensitive stable-isotope-dilution-differential-ion-mobility-spectrometry-LC-MS method for the quantification of 43 mycotoxins in soylike matrixes. Extraction by QuEChERS-d-SPE-PSA reduced matrix effects, while Differential-Ion-Mobility-Spectrometry (DMS) decreased background-noise and enabled the selective quantification of acetyl-deoxynivalenol (ACDON) isomers. Hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide regulate the adaptation to iron deficiency through affecting Fe homeostasis and thiol redox modification in Glycine max seedlings.

Iron (Fe) is a vital microelement required for the growth and development of plants. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and nitric oxide (NO), as messenger molecules, participated in the regulation of plant physiological processes. Here, we studied the interaction effects of H2S and NO on the adaptation to Fe deficiency in Glycine max L. Physiological, biochemical and molecular approaches were conducted to analyze the role of H2S and NO in regulating the adaptation to Fe deficiency in soybean. We found that H2S and NO had obvious rescuing function on the Fe deficiency-induced the plant growth inhibition,

Responses of soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) to zinc oxide nanoparticles: Understanding changes in root system architecture, zinc tissue partitioning and soil characteristics.

Addressing global Zinc (Zn) deficiency in food and feed requires innovation in Zn fertilizer. Recently, Zn oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) have piqued interest for potential use as a novel nano-Zn fertilizer. However, little is known about potential factors influencing ZnONPs partitioning in different plant tissues, and changes in root system architecture (RSA) and soil characteristics. Herein, we tested the effects of particle size (38, 59, and > 500 nm) and concentration (0-500 mg/kg) of ZnONPs on Zn bioaccumulation in multiple tissues in soil-grown soybean (Glycine max) grown for 120 days, inc

GmFIP37, a core m6A methyltransferase in soybean (Glycine max), confers salt and drought tolerance via synergistic regulation of m6A modification and antioxidant-osmolyte homeostasis.

RNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification, the most abundant epigenetic modification in eukaryotic mRNAs, regulates gene expression via modulating mRNA translation, degradation, and other post-transcriptional processes, and is critical for plant growth, development, and abiotic stress responses. Soybean (Glycine max), a globally vital food and oil crop, suffers severe yield and quality losses under salt and drought stresses; however, the functions of m6A regulatory genes, especially methyltransferases, in soybean abiotic stress responses remain largely uncharacterized. In this study, four GmFI

Spectroscopic characterization of a higher plant heme oxygenase isoform-1 from Glycine max (soybean)--coordination structure of the heme complex and catabolism of heme.

Heme oxygenase converts heme into biliverdin, CO, and free iron. In plants, as well as in cyanobacteria, heme oxygenase plays a particular role in the biosynthesis of photoreceptive pigments, such as phytochromobilins and phycobilins, supplying biliverdin IX(alpha) as a direct synthetic resource. In this study, a higher plant heme oxygenase, GmHO-1, of Glycine max (soybean), was prepared to evaluate the molecular features of its heme complex, the enzymatic activity, and the mechanism of heme conversion. The similarity in the amino acid sequence between GmHO-1 and heme oxygenases from other bio

Untargeted LC-QToF-MS profiling of the soybean (Glycine max) root-soil continuum reveals spatial compartmentalisation of putative exudate, defence, and iron-acquisition metabolite signatures.

INTRODUCTION: Compartment-resolved metabolite baselines for legumes grown under field conditions are notably scarce. Most root exudate data are obtained from hydroponic or pot systems using targeted assays. These methods fail to accurately represent the soil-borne and microbially derived chemical environments surrounding roots in situ. Furthermore, no such baseline has been established for soybeans grown on the calcareous Vertisols of central and western India, where phosphorus, Zn, and Fe availability are the primary constraints. METHODS: We employed untargeted liquid chromatography-quadrupo

Genome-wide identification of the Glycine max (soybean) aspartate kinase (AK) gene family and functional analysis of the GmAK6 gene in seed amino acid metabolism.

INTRODUCTION: Aspartate kinase (AK) functions as a key regulatory enzyme in seed development and amino acid metabolism in plants. Although soybean (Glycine max) is a model high protein crop rich in essential amino acids, systematic characterization of its AK gene family remains limited. METHODS: To identify AK family genes at the genome wide level and analyze their functions, we performed a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis of the soybean genome, including phylogenetic reconstruction, promoter cis element prediction, transcriptomic profiling, and subcellular localization via GFP fusion ass

Sucrose and starch metabolism pathways as candidate regulatory pathways in the salt stress response revealed by transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis during soybean (Glycine max) germination.

Soybean is a globally important grain and oil crop, and salt stress severely restricts its germination and seedling establishment, ultimately reducing yields. However, the core metabolic regulatory network underlying its salt-stress response and during seed germination remains poorly understood. In this study, the soybean cultivar 'Heihe 91' was cultivated under control (0 mmol/L NaCl) and 150 mmol/L NaCl salt treatments. Phenotypic and physiological assays combined with transcriptomic and non-targeted metabolomic analyses were performed to explore the salt response mechanism during germinatio

Characterization of disomic alien addition lines from an intersubgeneric cross between Glycine max and G. tomentella and phenotypic variation within those lines and their progenies.

Disomic alien addition lines (DAALs, 2n = 42) were obtained from an intersubgeneric cross between Glycine max [L.] Merr. cv. Dwight (2n = 40, G1G1) and Glycine tomentella Hayata (PI 441001, 2n = 78, D3D3CC). These DAALs had two homologous G. tomentella chromosomes. In some progenies of the DAALs the extra G. tomentella chromosomes were eliminated. One objective of this research was to identify differences in gene expression between a DAAL (LG13-7552) and one of its 2n = 40 progenies (LG12-7063). RNA-sequencing documented that many genes critical to fundamental plant growth and related to stres

Metabolic and structural rearrangement during dark-induced autophagy in soybean (Glycine max L.) nodules: an electron microscopy and 31P and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance study.

The effects of dark-induced stress on the evolution of the soluble metabolites present in senescent soybean (Glycine max L.) nodules were analysed in vitro using (13)C- and (31)P-NMR spectroscopy. Sucrose and trehalose were the predominant soluble storage carbons. During dark-induced stress, a decline in sugars and some key glycolytic metabolites was observed. Whereas 84% of the sucrose disappeared, only one-half of the trehalose was utilised. This decline coincides with the depletion of Gln, Asn, Ala and with an accumulation of ureides, which reflect a huge reduction of the N(2) fixation. Con

Genome-wide identification, characterization, evolutionary analysis, and expression profiling of the FCS-like zinc finger (FLZ) gene family in soybean (Glycine max L.) under abiotic stresses.

Drought and salinity limit soybean yield. Despite their role in the SnRK1 energy-sensing complex, a systematic study of FCS-Like Zinc Finger (FLZ) proteins in soybean has not been reported. We performed a genome-wide identification of the GmFLZ gene family, identifying 40 members distributed across 18 of the 20 soybean chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis of 87 FLZ proteins from Glycine max, Arabidopsis thaliana, and Oryza sativa revealed four major evolutionary clades, suggesting that diversification predates the separation of monocots and dicots. Structural analysis identified ten conserved mo

Molecular docking and dynamics simulation studies uncover the host-pathogen protein-protein interactions in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) and Groundnut bud necrosis virus: first report.

BACKGROUND: Soybean is a widely consumed oilseed crop with economic importance. It is enriched with numerous bioactive compounds that have health-promoting properties. Groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) affects many agriculturally important crops, such as soybean, resulting in crop losses. GBNV is a single-stranded RNA virus from the genus Orthotospovirus and family Bunyaviridae. It is transmitted by insect vectors (thrips) and is further aggravated by secondary transmission from infected plants to others in the same field. There are no commercially available drugs against GBNV; thus, there i

Soil application of graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets alleviate cadmium toxicity by altering subcellular distribution, chemical forms of cadmium and improving nitrogen availability in soybean (Glycine max L.).

Cadmium (Cd)-contamination impairs biological nitrogen fixation in legumes (BNF), threatening global food security. Innovative strategies to enhance BNF and improve plant resistance to Cd are therefore crucial. This study investigates the effects of graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (g-C3N4 NSs) on soybean (Glycine max L.) in Cd contaminated soil, focusing on Cd distribution, chemical forms and nitrogen (N) fixation. Soybean plants were treated with 100 mg kg-1 g-C3N4 NSs, with or without 10 mg kg-1 Cd for 4 weeks. Soil addition of g-C3N4 NSs alleviated Cd toxicity and promote soybean growth
