A case of focal myositis in a healthy 68-year-old woman is described. The patient was admitted for evaluation of a painful soft-tissue mass localised on the medial side of the left thigh, initially misdiagnosed as thrombophlebitis of the v. saphena magna. The physiological and histochemical characteristics of the gracilis muscle were studied in 19 patients undergoing electrically stimulated gracilis neosphincter construction. Indications for surgery were faecal incontinence (n = 11) and reconstruction following sphincter excision or congenital absence (n = 8). BACKGROUND: Stiff knee gait, which may be seen in patients with upper motor neuron injury, describes a gait pattern with a relative loss of sagittal knee motion. It interferes with foot clearance during swing, often leading to inefficient compensatory mechanisms and ambulatory dysfunction. Distal rectus femoris muscle transfers and fractional lengthening of the vastus muscles have been performed in adult patients.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to describe a unique surgical technique and report on initial outcomes.

BACKGROUND: In surgical treatment for longstanding facial paralysis, muscle transplantation is considered a useful and important method. To obtain a spontaneous smile, the use of the facial nerve of the healthy side as a motor source is better, but use of the masseter nerve allows prompt reinnervation and powerful movement. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of gracilis muscle transposition for recurrent rectovaginal fistula.
METHODS: Gracilis muscle transposition for recurrent rectovaginal fistula was performed in eight patients.
