Modeling Between-Group Differences in Dynamics of Psychological Constructs in the Presence of Measurement Non-Invariance: A Stepwise Approach.

Researchers analyzing intensive longitudinal data often aim to detect between-group differences in dynamics of psychological constructs, such as positive and negative affect. These constructs are usually latent (not directly observable). To validly compare groups of individuals in their dynamic processes, the latent constructs must be measured equally across the individuals. If this is not the case - that is, if measurement invariance is violated for some items - this partial non-invariance must be accounted for. Otherwise, the group-specific estimates of the dynamic process may be biased. To

Group B streptococcal colonization and transmission dynamics in pregnant women and their newborns in Nigeria: implications for prevention strategies.

OBJECTIVES: Because few studies have been conducted on group B Streptococcus (GBS) in Nigeria, we sought to estimate GBS colonization and transmission frequencies for 500 women and their newborns and identify risk factors for both outcomes. METHODS: GBS strains were characterized for antibiotic susceptibilities, capsule (cps) genotype, pilus island profile and multilocus sequence type (ST). RESULTS: In all, 171 (34.2%) mothers and 95 (19.0%) of their newborns were colonized with GBS; the vertical transmission rate was 48.5%. One newborn developed early-onset disease, yielding an incidence of

Dynamics of colonization with group B streptococci in relation to normal flora in women during subsequent trimesters of pregnancy.

The main objective of the study was to compare the qualitative and quantitative composition of vaginal and rectal flora in GBS-positive (n=15) and GBS-negative (n=27) pregnant women examined in three subsequent trimesters of their pregnancy. Study samples consisted of vaginal and rectal smears and urine samples. GBS numbers were determined by the quantitatively cultured method [cfu/ml] and with the use of qPCR. Five GBS colonies were isolated per each positive sample and genotyped by PFGE and serotyping. The normal flora components: Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Candida were quantitativel

Age-group differences between young and middle-aged adults in spatiotemporal EEG dynamics revealed by instantaneous frequency microstate analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The human brain exhibits complex functions that emerge from interactions among spatially distributed neural regions. Electroencephalography (EEG) microstate analysis has been widely adopted to capture transient topographies reflecting large-scale network dynamics; moreover, it has been linked to cognitive functions, intrinsic brain networks, and neuropsychiatric disorders. Building on this framework, we recently proposed a novel approach based on instantaneous frequency (IF), defined as the temporal derivative of the instantaneous phase, which characterizes microstates in a dimen

The dynamic complexity of cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity among Black women in North Texas: insights from a system dynamics group model building study.

OBJECTIVES: Black women in North Texas experience persistently elevated rates of cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity (CSMM). To generate novel insights into the dynamic complexity of CSMM, the study was grounded in four primary research questions: (1) What are the most important causes and consequences of CSMM?; (2) How, and why, have those causes and consequences changed over time?; (3) What is the structure of the systems that drive these outcomes?; and (4) What actionable solutions may mitigate CSMM? DESIGN: Participatory system dynamics group model building (SD GMB) was conducted wit

A near-infrared fluorescent probe for monitoring hepatic cysteine dynamics in drug-induced liver injury guided by cholic acid group.

In this work, a liver-targeted NIR fluorescent probe CA-Cys for Cys was developed by integrating benzothiazole hemicyanine, an acrylate moiety responsive to Cys, and a cholic acid (CA) ligand. The CA group of CA-Cys recognizes the sodium-taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) specifically expressed on hepatocytes, enabling specific liver targeting and excellent resistance to disease interference. CA-Cys exhibits an excellent linear response to Cys with a detection limit of 0.54 μM, rapid response within 30 s, and favorable selectivity, without interference by other reactive sulfur spec

The design of "dynamic-static evaluation by parallel groups within subpopulations" for clinical research of traditional Chinese medicine.

To more precisely evaluate the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine, we propose a novel study design called dynamic-static evaluation by parallel groups within subpopulations. The design includes 3 elements: subpopulations of patients based on TCM differentiation of syndrome and disease; parallel control groups inside or outside subpopulations; comprehensive evaluation for the combined effects of static and dynamic treatment. Using dry eye disease (disease-based syndromes), renal edema (syndrome-based diseases), and end-stage renal disease (method-based diseases and/or syndromes)

Dynamic vitamin D trajectories and their prognostic value in breast cancer: a group-based trajectory modeling study.

Breast cancer represents the most frequently diagnosed malignancy and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women globally, with substantial prognostic heterogeneity that underscores the urgent need for robust prognostic biomarkers to guide personalized clinical management. Although accumulating evidence has linked vitamin D status to breast cancer progression, most existing studies have relied on static single measurements of serum vitamin D, leading to inconsistent findings, while the prognostic implications of dynamic longitudinal changes in vitamin D levels during treatment and

Assessment of control strategies against Clonorchis sinensis infection based on a multi-group dynamic transmission model.

Clonorchiasis is one of the most important food-borne trematodiases affecting millions of people. Strategies were recommended by different organizations and control programmes were implemented but mostly in short-time periods. It's important to assess the long-term benefits and sustainability of possible control strategies on morbidity control of the disease. We developed a multi-group transmission model to describe the dynamics of C. sinensis transmission among different groups of people with different raw-fish-consumption behaviors, based on which, a full model with interventions was propose

Dynamic two-stage mechanism of versatile DNA damage recognition by xeroderma pigmentosum group C protein.

The recognition and subsequent repair of DNA damage are essential reactions for the maintenance of genome stability. A key general sensor of DNA lesions is xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XPC) protein, which recognizes a wide variety of helix-distorting DNA adducts arising from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, genotoxic chemicals and reactive metabolic byproducts. By detecting damaged DNA sites, this unique molecular sensor initiates the global genome repair (GGR) pathway, which allows for the removal of all the aforementioned lesions by a limited repertoire of excision factors. A faulty GGR activit

Exploring the dynamic responses of group 3 innate lymphoid cells at different times in response to LPS challenge.

Group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) have clear roles in regulating mucosal immunity and tissue homeostasis in the intestine, though the immunological functions in lungs remain unclear. This study aimed to demonstrate the dynamic responses of ILC3s to acute inflammation upon LPS challenge. Microarray data and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data obtained from the GEO database were combined to analyze the function of ILC3 subset, confirmed by flow cytometry assay and qRT-PCR. The gene enrichment analysis of intersected genes identified between microarray data in bacterial pneumonia and

Group I metabotropic glutamate receptor mediated dynamic immune dysfunction in children with fragile X syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the leading cause of inheritable intellectual disability in male children, and is predominantly caused by a single gene mutation resulting in expanded trinucleotide CGG-repeats within the 5' untranslated region of the fragile X mental retardation (FMR1) gene. Reports have suggested the presence of immune dysregulation in FXS with evidence of altered plasma cytokine levels; however, no studies have directly assessed functional cellular immune responses in children with FXS. In order to ascertain if immune dysregulation is present in children with FXS, dyn
