Changes in post-event processing and metacognitions during cognitive behavioral group therapy for social phobia.

This study examined changes in post-event processing (PEP), metacognitions, and symptoms of social anxiety and depression following cognitive behavioral group therapy for social phobia (N=61). Social anxiety, depression symptoms and PEP all significantly reduced following treatment. Reductions in PEP were associated with reductions in symptoms of social anxiety, but not depression. Metacognitions were also less strongly endorsed following treatment, with the exception of positive metacognitions. Interestingly, however, changes in metacognitions were generally associated with reductions in depr

Differential processing of excitation by GABAergic gain modulation in canine caudal ventral respiratory group neurons.

The discharge frequency (F(n)) patterns of medullary respiratory premotor neurons are subject to potent tonic GABAergic gain modulation. Studies in other neuron types suggest that the synaptic input for tonic inhibition is located on the soma where it can affect total neuronal output. However, our preliminary data suggested that excitatory responses elicited by highly local application of glutamate receptor agonists are not gain modulated. In addition, modulation of the amplitude of spike afterhyperpolarizations can gain modulate neuronal output, and this mechanism is located near the spike in

'They're big and I is small': The precarious identity reconstruction process of a low-status occupational group.

This paper studies how certified nursing assistants (CNAs), as members of a low-status occupational group, engage in identity reconstruction as they attempt to alter their marginalized position within long-term care organizations. Micro-level process data consist of 160 h of participant observations of a professional development programme for CNAs and 130 in-depth interviews with programme participants and their colleagues in care organizations. The findings show that the identity reconstruction process involved four micro-processes: 1) recognizing the dominance of marginalized identity, 2) se

Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet and Ultra-Processed Foods Consumption in a Group of Italian Patients with Celiac Disease.

Evidence on the consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) in adults with celiac disease (CD) and its impact on Mediterranean Diet (MD) adherence is still limited. Our aim was to determine UPF consumption and its relationship with MD adherence in a group of adults, according to the presence of CD. This case-control study included 103 adults with CD and 312 without CD. UPF intake was assessed using the NOVA Food Frequency Questionnaire (NFFQ), while MD adherence was assessed using the Medi-Lite score. UPF represented 14.5% of the diet of participants with CD (246 g/day) and came mainly from cer

Self-Disgust within Eating Disordered Groups: Associations with Anxiety, Disgust Sensitivity and Sensory Processing.

This study aimed to assess the relationship between self-disgust and sensory processing within eating psychopathology. Five hundred and ninety-one women with a self-reported diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or who had no previous history of an eating disorder completed a battery of online questionnaires measuring disgust, emotion and sensory variables. Those with an eating disorder reported significantly higher rates of self-disgust than those with no history of disordered eating. In groups of women with self-reported bulimia, self-disgust was associated with sensation avoidance

A survey on the methodological processes and policies of renal guideline groups as a first step to harmonize renal guidelines.

BACKGROUND: Worldwide, several bodies produce renal guidelines, potentially leading to duplication of effort while other topics may remain uncovered. A collaborative work plan could improve efficiency and impact, but requires a common approved methodology. The aim of this study was to identify organizational and methodological similarities and differences among seven major renal guideline bodies to identify methodological barriers to a collaborative effort. METHODS: An electronic 62-item survey with questions based on the Institute of Medicine standards for guidelines was completed by represe

Addressing anniversary reactions of trauma through group process: the Hurricane Katrina anniversary wellness workshops.

Natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast of the United States in the summer of 2005, have highlighted the need to develop effective post-trauma psychotherapeutic intervention strategies, not only to deal with the immediate psychological aftermath of trauma, but also the long-term effects of anniversary reactions. Governmental responses to Hurricane Katrina relief were greatly criticized for disorganization and delay. Both immediately afterwards and in ensuing months, people's life needs often were not addressed. People-to-people individual and group grassroo

Standards of Fluid Biomarker Collection and Pre-analytical Processes in Humans and Mice: Recommendations by the Ataxia Global Initiative Working Group on Biomarkers.

The Ataxia Global Initiative (AGI) aims to serve as a platform to facilitate clinical trial readiness for the hereditary ataxias. Clinical trials for these diseases have been hampered by the lack of objective measures to study disease onset, progression, and treatment efficacy. While these issues are not unique to the genetic ataxias, the relative rarity of these diseases makes the need for such measures even more pressing to achieve statistical power in clinical trials. In this report, we have described the efforts of the AGI fluid biomarker working group (WG) in developing uniform protocols

A Distributed Monitoring Framework for Large-Scale Industrial Processes Based on Differential Grouping and Hierarchical Cooperative Modeling.

Modern large-scale industrial processes, characterized by high dimensionality, strong nonlinearity, and complex spatiotemporal couplings, pose significant challenges to traditional monitoring methods. To address these challenges, this article proposes a novel distributed monitoring framework: differential grouping and hierarchical cooperative monitoring (DG-HCM). First, a differential grouping (DG) strategy leverages deep feature interactions to adaptively decompose the process into functionally cohesive sub-blocks. Second, a hierarchical cooperative monitoring system is constructed upon this

Macrogenetic Alignment in Ecological Strategies Better Interprets Assembly Processes Than Pre-Determined Functional Groupings.

Understanding how species assemble across landscapes requires integration of data representing evolutionary, ecological, and biogeographic processes. We developed a comparative macrogenetic framework, applying it across 22 co-distributed rainforest trees, to identify replicated landscape-level genetic signatures. Diversity-migration analyses and genogeographic clustering identified shared spatial dynamics in relation to refugial areas and genetic turnover, but with no direct relation to simple functional trait combinations. Three broad patterns emerged: Higher Northern Diversity with southward

Interpersonal heart rate synchrony predicts effective information processing in a naturalistic group decision-making task.

Groups often outperform individuals in problem-solving. Nevertheless, failure to critically evaluate ideas risks suboptimal outcomes through so-called groupthink. Prior studies have shown that people who hold shared goals, perspectives, or understanding of the environment show similar patterns of brain activity, which itself can be enhanced by consensus-building discussions. Whether shared arousal alone can predict collective decision-making outcomes, however, remains unknown. To address this gap, we computed interpersonal heart rate synchrony, a peripheral index of shared arousal associated w

How a group-based occupational therapy program works in woman with fibromyalgia: A process evaluation of the ADAPT program.

BACKGROUND: The ADAPT Program have improved activities of daily living (ADL) in women with fibromyalgia. To understand the functioning of the program, it is relevant to evaluate how program theory components are linked to outcomes (mechanisms) and how the randomised controlled trial (RCT) context, influenced delivery and outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate ADAPT in terms of dose, mechanisms of change and contextual factors. MATERIAL/METHODS: Dose was recorded on the n = 21 participants receiving ADAPT in the IMPROvE trial (NCT01352052). A subsample of n = 16 attended one of three 2-hour focusgr

The relationship between emotion regulation difficulties and PTSD outcomes during group cognitive processing therapy for PTSD.

Emotion regulation difficulties (difficulty regulating the experience, occurrence, and expression of emotions) are associated with the severity of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms across trauma types (e.g., childhood abuse, sexual assault, combat trauma). Despite emerging research suggesting that evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including cognitive processing therapy (CPT), are effective in improving emotion regulation difficulties, some have argued that these therapies may not be as safe or acceptable to patients compared to non-trauma focused treatments. Accordingly, the curr

Individual Versus Group Physical Therapy for Patients with Low Back Pain: Outcomes and Process (Therapeutic Factors).

Low back pain (LBP) is a common health problem usually treated individually, and requires costly physical therapy. Group treatment, besides being cost-effective, provides psychological support to the recovery of people who struggle with a physically disabling condition. The current study compares individual and group treatment of LBP, measuring differences in outcomes and process data (therapeutic factors). The study included 158 patients who participated in group (n = 71) and individual (n = 87) physical therapy, using a pre-post-follow-up design. Results indicated a significant improvement i

'This is the beginning of the new me': process evaluation of a group fitness intervention to promote wellbeing in formerly homeless individuals.

BACKGROUND: Homelessness is a persistent social issue with diverse impacts reaching far beyond individuals. Strategies and research concerning homelessness and health have largely focused on the risk factors and weaknesses of individuals. Such preoccupation has meant the potential strengths and resources within individuals, and so-called strength-based approaches have received less attention. Consequently, understanding how to effectively work with and engage this population in such interventions is limited. METHODS: The current study presents a process evaluation of an 8-week group fitness i
