Physical abuse of children as a public health problem.

This review of the physical abuse of children by their parents or other adults is an attempt to present the epidemiological data on this subject in terms of a model which will facilitate public health intervention. Child abuse is a public health problem of sizable proportions in many nations. Studies of the problem have been largely concentrated in the United States, but the problem has also been of concern in many other nations throughout the world. Epidemiological findings are summarized, and a number of the major sociological and psychiatric theories of child abuse are discussed. A model of

Health benefits of a physical exercise program for inpatients with mental health; a pilot study.

The positive effect of exercise on human health and the relationship between physical activity, health, and wellbeing are well studied and extensively documented in the literature. However, considerably less attention is devoted to the impact of exercise on mental health and wellbeing for people experiencing a mental illness, in general, and in particular for inpatients in the mental health care system. Here, we determine the clinical feasibility and effects of short-term (up to three months) vs long-term (up to six months) group-based exercise program for inpatients with chronic mental health

[Questionnaire and interview on physical health within the scope of The Child and Adolescent Health Survey].

Physical health is an important dimension within even the broadest concept of health. However, comprehensive and representative data on the physical health of children and adolescents in Germany are so far lacking. In the Health Survey for Children and Adolescents information will be collected on various aspects of physical health: pregnancy, birth, child development, self-rated health, physical well-being, acute and chronic disorders, congenital malformations, injuries, symptoms and complaints, disability and pain. It will be possible to analyse various determinants and consequences of physic

Associations between intuitive eating and health behaviors and physical health in U.S. adults.

Intuitive eating is a non-diet approach that emphasizes eating in response to hunger and fullness cues that has potential as a sustainable health promotion framework. Although research demonstrates that intuitive eating is strongly associated with psychological health, less is known about its associations with health behaviors and physical health. We examined how intuitive eating related to lifestyle behaviors and chronic disease diagnosis in a large, diverse U.S. adult sample. Adults aged ≥ 18 years residing in the U.S. were recruited from CloudResearch's Connect platform to complete a cross-

Reduction in Cannabis Use and Functional Status in Physical Health, Mental Health, and Cognition.

Treatment for substance use disorders has traditionally been abstinence-oriented, but evaluating the merits of low-level cannabis use as potential treatment endpoint may identify benefits that are clinically relevant for treatment-seeking individuals who do not attain abstinence. This study explores if reduction in cannabis use to a lower level of use is related to improved physical health, mental health, and perceived cognitive functions. Study participants with a history of problematic cannabis use (n = 111) completed assessments. Regression models were used to explore the relationship betwe

Predicting Physical Activity in Adults With Physical Disabilities: An Adaptation of the Physical Activity for Individuals With Disabilities and Health Action Process Approach Models.

Understanding the psychological mechanism underlying physical activity (PA) participation in individuals with physical disabilities is crucial. In the current study, a conceptual model derived from extant literature was utilized to examine how perceived barriers, attitude, subjective norm, and self-efficacy are associated with intention and action of PA for people with disabilities. We recruited 371 adults (male = 215; female = 154; unidentified = 1; Mage = 53.20 ± 11.52 yr) with various physical disabilities. Structural equation modeling indicated that subjective norm, attitude, personal effi
