The Impact of Social Determinants and Air Pollution on Healthcare Disparities in Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Multiple factors affect healthcare disparities in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with and without nasal polyps. These factors include access to care, economic burdens to treatment, and differences in air pollution and air quality. In this paper, we will discuss how socioeconomic status, race, and air pollution burden influence healthcare disparities in the diagnosis and treatment outcomes of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). METHODS: A literature search was performed via PubMed for articles related to CRSwNP, healthcare disparities, race, socioeconomic sta

Generational disparities in maternal healthcare: a life-course perspective on social determinants in Kersa, Eastern Ethiopia.

INTRODUCTION: Maternal mortality remains persistently high in low- and middle-income countries, driven by inequities in access to and use of maternal healthcare. A life-course perspective offers critical insights into the underlying drivers of these disparities, linking historical, social and structural factors across women's lives to health outcomes. By contextualising maternal health within lifelong trajectories, the analysis aims to inform targeted strategies to reduce inequities and improve care access across generations. OBJECTIVES: To analyse the generational differences in the maternal

Addressing Health Disparities: How Having a More Diverse Biomedical Workforce Can Contribute to Addressing Health Disparities in Communities that Are Often Underrepresented in the Healthcare System.

Health disparities that are seen in underserved and underrepresented communities are a pressing issue in healthcare. These disparities are embedded into our society through structural inequalities that lead to poorer health outcomes in those from minoritised communities. In its place as the heart of modern healthcare, the biomedical science workforce has the potential to play a crucial role in mitigating these disparities by fostering greater cultural competence, improving patient outcomes and driving innovative solutions. This study reviewed the current literature on the impact of diversity w

Racial and ethnic disparities in access to non-COVID-19 healthcare during the pandemic in the United States.

Access to healthcare-defined as the ability to obtain timely and necessary medical services - is critical during public health emergencies. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic (2020-2021) substantially disrupted routine healthcare delivery in the United States, particularly affecting racial and ethnic minority groups who already face barriers to care. While previous studies have examined disparities in COVID-related outcomes, fewer have assessed racial differences in access to care for non-COVID-19 conditions over an extended pandemic period. This study investigated whether race a
