METHODS: Data were collected from 573 women suffering from infertility who was seeking assisted reproductive technology treatment in China. We used AMOS 22.0 and the PROCESS macro in SPSS 25.0 software to test our model. RESULTS: Our findings

Temperament, parenting, mental disorders, life stressors and help-seeking behavior of Asian adolescent suicide attempters: A case control study.

PURPOSE: The need to elucidate risk factors for adolescent suicide is urgent, as suicide consistently ranks among the top causes of death globally. Understanding suicide risk factors could inform more effective interventions. Previous studies have identified certain risk factors associated with suicide, but there is a paucity of research among adolescent and multi-ethnic Asian populations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This case-control study sampled 13-to-19-year-old Asian adolescents who had attempted suicide (N = 60) and controls (N = 58) matched by age, ethnicity and gender at group-level (73.7%

Alcohol use, behavioral and mental health help-seeking, and treatment satisfaction among sexual minority women.

BACKGROUND: Sexual minority women (SMW) report higher rates of heavy episodic drinking (HED) and adverse alcohol-related outcomes, including poor mental health, than heterosexual women. These disparities indicate a greater need for behavioral and mental health treatment for SMW. This study examined associations among alcohol outcomes, behavioral and mental health help-seeking, and treatment satisfaction among SMW by age, sexual identity, race/ethnicity, and income. METHODS: Participants included a community sample of 695 SMW (Mage  = 40.0, SD = 14.1; 74.1% lesbian, 25.9% bisexual; 37.6% White

Deaf people's help-seeking following trauma: Experiences with and recommendations for the Massachusetts behavioral health care system.

OBJECTIVE: Deaf trauma survivors are one of the more underserved populations in behavioral health care and experience significant obstacles to seeking help. The current study sought to explore Deaf trauma survivors' help-seeking experiences and elicit their recommendations for improving Deaf behavioral health services in Massachusetts. METHOD: We conducted semistructured American Sign Language interviews with 16 trauma-exposed Deaf individuals that included questions from the Life E

From shielded stress to shared support: A sequential, mixed-methods study on informal help-seeking behavior in health professions education.

INTRODUCTION: Although peer support is known to foster well-being among students in health professions education, the mechanisms driving informal help-seeking behavior remain insufficiently understood. Ongoing psychological distress and persistent barriers to faculty-based support increase the need for accessible resources for these future health care professionals. This study explored whether students reach out when experiencing performance pressure and which opportunities they identify to strengthen their peer support network. METHODS: This sequential, mixed-methods study was conducted at t

The Acne Education Project: An educational initiative to improve acne health literacy and promote help-seeking behavior in young adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory skin condition that is associated with poor acne health literacy. Diminished acne health literacy leads to delays in the access of health care, resulting in mismanagement, disfigurement, and psychosocial morbidity. This study evaluates the potential role of early acne education in young adolescent populations to improve acne health literacy and facilitate help-seeking behavior. METHODS: The Acne Education Project is a Canadian medical student-led initiative founded to create evidence-based resources to increase acne health literacy. A 45-min intera

Understanding time as a predictor of mental health, academic performance, and help-seeking behavior among undergraduates: a mixed methods analysis.

Objective: This study examines how time pressure (subjective sense of rush) and time scarcity (lack of weekly non-committed hours) relate to mental health and academic performance. Participants: The sample included 646 undergraduates (65.3% female; mean age = 19.4). Method: Participants completed a mixed-methods survey assessing time use, time pressure, mental health, and academic performance at a single time point. Results: We found that time pressure predicts increased anxiety and depression, whereas time scarcity predicts decreased depression. Time pressure predicts poorer academic performa

Help-seeking behavior and its determinants among gender-based violence survivor women in Africa: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Gender-based violence is a pervasive public health and human rights problem that disproportionately affects women in Africa, resulting in profound physical, psychological, and social consequences. Despite these impacts, many survivors do not seek formal help due to stigma, fear, and limited access to resources. This study aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of help-seeking behavior and identify its determinants among gender-based violence survivor women in Africa. METHOD: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following standard methodological guidelines, using s

The relationship between internet addiction and help-seeking behavior for online privacy infringement: The moderating role of online privacy perception.

Owing to the advent of the digital era, online privacy security faces severe challenges. As a high-risk group, individuals with internet addiction and their help-seeking behaviors for online privacy infringement have not been sufficiently studied. To address this gap, this study utilizes survey data from 7904 respondents among university students (estimated age range: 18-30) across 25 provinces and municipalities in China to explore the relationship between internet addiction and help-seeking behavior for online privacy infringement using ordinary least squares (OLS) and ordered probit models.

The process and mechanism of help-seeking behavior among people living with HIV: a qualitative analysis based on grounded theory.

BACKGROUND: AIDS is a global public health issue that requires continuous monitoring and response. Although antiretroviral therapy has decreased the death rate among people living with HIV, several physical and mental health issues remain to be addressed. Seeking help might be a way to solve mental health problems for people living with HIV. Although the research on help-seeking behavior is extensive, the specific content, process, and mechanism of help-seeking behavior in people living with HIV are still unclear. This study aims to explore the mechanism and process of help-seeking behavior in

Ragging, a Form of University Violence in Sri Lanka-Prevalence, Self-Perceived Health Consequences, Help-Seeking Behavior and Associated Factors.

Ragging is an initiation ritual practiced in Sri Lankan universities for generations, although research is scarce. This practice has several adverse consequences such as physical, psychological, and behavioral effects and increased university dropouts. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of different types of ragging: emotional/verbal, physical and sexual ragging, self-perceived health consequences, help-seeking behavior, and factors associated with the experience of ragging. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 623, second- and third-year students from the medical,

This study uses National Violence against Women Survey data to investigate the differential impact of concomitant forms of violence (sexual abuse, stalking, and psychological abuse) and ethnicity on help-seeking behaviors of women physically abused by an intimate partner (n = 1,756). Controlling for severity of the physical abuse, women who experienced concomitant sexual abuse are less likely to seek help, women who experienced concomitant stalking are more likely to seek help, whereas concomitant psychological abuse is not associated with help seeking. Ethnic differences are found in help see
