The apocrine hidrocystoma is a benign adenomatous cystic proliferation derived from apocrine glands, which frequently occurs in periocular tissues. These cystadenomas may occur bilaterally, in multiple disfiguring confluent groups on both the upper and lower lids. Although these lesions have been treated successfully with meticulous surgical extirpation and electrosurgery, this report describes the successful treatment of two patients, each with multiple large (>7 mm) periocular apocrine hidrocystomas by either chemical ablation of the cystic epithelium with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or surgi

BACKGROUND: High-frequency ultrasound has improved our ability to manage and diagnose anterior segment tumors. Hidrocystomas are unusual cystic tumors that can affect the conjunctiva and eyelid. When they appear pigmented and rapid in onset, it is important to differentiate them from malignant tumors, such as melanoma.
CASE REPORTS: Three patients were referred to The New York Eye Cancer Center for evaluation of pigmented lesions on their eyes. The tumors affected the conjunctiva or eyelid and were of recent onset ranging from 1 week to 6 months. The hidrocystomas displayed hypoechoic high-fr

Apocrine hidrocystoma is a benign cystic tumour arising from apocrine sweat glands. Its occurrence on the penile foreskin is exceedingly rare, representing an uncommon lesion of the external genitalia. A review of the literature suggests that only a limited number of cases -- approximately 13 involving external genitalia -- have been reported worldwide. We present the case of a 50-year-old gentleman who was referred to the urology service with a gradually enlarging, multiloculated, non-proliferative cyst arising from the foreskin. Patient underwent excisional biopsy with complete circumcision

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Apocrine Hidrocystoma is a relatively rare benign tumour that begins from the apocrine sweat glands of the head and neck. The Authors present a case series of children with urogenital localization.
CASES PRESENTATION: Two boys (15 years and 9 years) presented with a small mass on the glans. Another 15-year-old boy presented with a cystic lesion in the right side of the scrotum where he had a previous surgery. The last case, a 17-year-old boy, presented because of a penile cyst of 8 mm. All four had surgical operations because of aesthetic discomfort or problems du

An upper lid eccrine hidrocystoma presenting as early childhood progressive ptosis is very rare. We present a 9-year-old female child with droopy right upper lid since birth and progressive increase in symptoms. She had right upper lid ptosis (marginal reflex distance 1 of -1 mm) with fair levator function (8 mm) and abnormal cystic change on the conjunctival side. Computerized tomography imaging delineated the well-defined cystic lesion with homogeneous cavity with no contrast enhancement. Following the cyst excision, a giant eccrine hidrocystoma measuring 25 mm × 15 mm was removed, the large

PURPOSE: To report the presentation and management of an atypical and advanced case of hidrocystoma of the eyelids with associated functional complications.
METHODS: Interventional case report with clinical photographs at presentation, intra-operative photographs, and histology.
RESULTS: A 55-year-old lady who presented with massive upper and lower eyelid swellings causing mechanical ptosis and epiphora, respectively, was managed by surgical excision of the lesions. Histology confirmed eccrine hidrocystoma.
CONCLUSIONS: Eccrine hidrocystoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis

Nevus sebaceous is a hamartoma with an uneventful course since birth but many benign or malignant tumors are known to develop in about one third of the patients. A 37-year-old woman with asymptomatic hairless raised lesion over the scalp since birth presented with change in the morphology of the lesions associated with itching and irritation since one month. On examination, multiple well-defined hyperpigmented verrucous plaques coalescing with each other were seen over the right parietal scalp associated with alopecia. A single well-defined soft skin-colored cystic swelling of size 1 × 2 cm wa

Apocrine hidrocystomas are cysts resulting from obstruction of the apocrine sweat gland ducts. They are usually solitary and seen in the head and neck areas. Apocrine hidrocystomas are rarely seen in the orbit with very few adult cases published in literature until now.

The histologic diagnosis as eccrine hidrocystoma may contain some other cysts which do not originate from the eccrine sweat glands. Some authors have suggested that true eccrine hidrocystoma does not exist. However, multiple eccrine hidrocystoma (Robinson type) is a distinct clinical entity which is characterized by multiple translucent papules around the eyelids which appear in warm weather. Cytokeratin expression in 8 cases of multiple type of unequivocal eccrine hidrocystoma was analyzed immunohistochemically. Immunoreactivities in our cases were similar to those of eccrine dermal ducts. Th

Two cases of eccrine hidrocystoma, one of which is a "classic" Robinson type and the other a Smith type, were reported. The walls of both cysts consisted mainly of two layers of flat or low cuboidal epithelial cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Immunostaining for S-100 protein was negative in the cells of the cyst wall of the Robinson type and only weakly positive in the inner luminal layer of the Smith type. Electron microscopically, the Smith type showed double-layered cuboidal lining and cell membrane interdigitations as junctions of neighboring cells without any characteristics of the secr

CASE: A 26-year-old woman developed a painful enlarging mass in her left leg over the course of 4 years. Marginal resection and local adjuvant therapy was undertaken, and pathology confirmed the mass to be an apocrine hidrocystoma.
CONCLUSION: Giant apocrine hidrocystomas with osseous involvement outside of the head and neck are extremely rare. Although these tumors have a low recurrence rate, this case presents a single giant apocrine hidrocystoma that recurred and was successfully treated.

Hidrocystoma is a rare benign cystic tumor of sweat gland origin, most commonly located in the periorbital region, with uncommon occurrence in the retroauricular area. This article presents a case of a 14-year-old patient with a retroauricular mass present for approximately four years, which had remained stable in size until a gradual enlargement was observed over the preceding 11 months. The lesion was associated with intermittent fluid discharge and periodic episodes of local skin inflammation, likely related to mechanical irritation from earrings worn by the patient. Otherwise, the lesion w

Apocrine hidrocystomas are rare, benign cystic tumors arising from apocrine sweat glands, with a predilection for the head and neck, most commonly involving the eyelids. Occurrence within breast tissue is exceptionally uncommon and represents a diagnostic challenge, particularly given the high prevalence of other cystic lesions in this location. We report a 67-year-old female who presented for excision of a new, painless right breast nodule detected on self-examination. She had a known history of dense breast tissue and benign breast masses. Ultrasonography identified a hypoechoic lesion consi

PURPOSE: To describe the clinical features of a conjunctival apocrine hidrocystoma that developed 6 decades after a strabismus surgery and review existing literature on apocrine hidrocystomas of the conjunctiva and caruncle.
METHODS: Case report and review of literature on conjunctival apocrine hidrocystomas.
RESULTS: A 71-year-old man with a history of strabismus surgery as a child presented with a cystic lesion on the nasal conjunctiva and caruncle for 1 year. Excision of the lesion showed a unilocular cavity lined by a double layer of cells with the hallmark finding of apical decapitation

INTRODUCTION: Apocrine cystadenomas are rare, benign tumors that might arise in the periocular region from glands of Moll. They characteristically demonstrate proliferative features on histopathological examination, which differentiate them from simple hidrocystomas.
PRESENTATION OF CASES: We retrospectively identified 4 consecutive cases of apocrine cystadenomas in male patients with a mean age of 48.5 years (range 20-62). One of the cases was a recurrent lesion. The Preoperative clinical diagnosis was mostly hidrocystoma. All patients agreed on complete surgical excision of their cystic les

A 12-year-old domestic short-haired cat was referred for evaluation of periocular masses. The tail had similar masses and was amputated previously by the referring veterinarian. On examination, multiple pigmented nodules, 3-15 mm in diameter, were found in the periocular skin, primarily involving the palpebral eyelid margin. A wedge excisional biopsy revealed small cuboidal cells forming multiple tubular and cystic structures indicative of apocrine cystadenomas, similar to apocrine hidrocystomas described in humans. The nodules were lanced followed by liquid nitrogen cryofreezing.

Apocrine hidrocystomas, while rare, present predominantly as solitary papules occurring in the periocular region of the face. Various treatment modalities for these lesions exist depending on their size and location, but the management of multiple hidrocystomas can be more challenging. Recent reports illustrate that multiple eccrine hidrocystomas have been successfully treated with botulinum toxin A. Herein we describe the effective use of botulinum toxin A in a 29-year-old man with multiple facial apocrine hidrocystomas, which, to our knowledge, has not yet been reported in the English-langua
