Non-contrast enhanced MRI for assessment of uterine fibroids' early response to ultrasound-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound thermal ablation.

PURPOSE: To examine non-contrast enhanced MRI value to evaluate necrotic area and ablation rate of uterine fibroids after high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) thermal ablation. METHOD: In total, 508 patients with 598 fibroids who underwent HIFU treatment were enrolled. Contrast-enhanced MRI (CE-MRI) with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)were performed before treatment and within two days post-treatment. DWI signal performance of post-operative fibroids was observed; apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and DWI signal values pre- and post-operation were measured. The volume of post-operative

High-frequency high-intensity focused ultrasound (HF-HIFU) for ablation of benign, premalignant, and malignant cutaneous lesions: a systematic review.

High-frequency high-intensity focused ultrasound (HF-HIFU) is a non-invasive ablative technology that enables precise, depth-controlled thermal destruction of superficial cutaneous lesions. Its potential dermatological applications include benign, premalignant, and selected malignant tumours; however, current evidence is fragmented across indications and study designs. This systematic review evaluated the clinical role of HF-HIFU for cutaneous lesion ablation. The review followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines and was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD420261326294). Eligible studies investigate

Pilot Study of Partial Tumor Ablation Using Thermal High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) in Feline Soft Tissue Sarcomas.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are locally invasive and aggressive tumors that occur spontaneously in humans, dogs, and cats. High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-invasive ablation technology that has been explored in canine but not feline STS. The objective of this pilot study was to determine the in vivo safety and feasibility of HIFU ablation for feline STS and to investigate the impact of HIFU on the acute immunological response. Client-owned cats diagnosed with spontaneous STS were recruited. Computed tomography (CT) scans of the chest, abdomen, and tumor were performed prior to

Feasibility of the novel vascular disrupting agent C118P for facilitating high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation of uterine fibroids.

OBJECTIVE: In this study, C118P, a novel vascular disrupting agent (VDA), was evaluated for its ability in improving the ablative effect of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) on uterine fibroids by reducing blood perfusion. METHODS: Eighteen female rabbits were infused with isotonic sodium chloride solution (ISCS), C118P or oxytocin for 30 min, and an HIFU ablation of the leg muscles was performed within the last 2 min. Blood pressure, heart rate and laser speckle flow imaging (LSFI) of the auricular blood vessels were recorded during perfusion. Ears with vessels, uterus and muscle abla

Partial gland ablation using high-intensity focused ultrasound versus robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: a propensity score-matched study.

BACKGROUND: We compared the clinical outcomes of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and partial gland ablation (PGA) using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in localized prostate cancer. METHODS: We analyzed 3,859 patients who had undergone RARP and PGA using HIFU. According to the propensity score for each treatment, 137 patients after PGA were matched to 3,722 patients after RARP at a 1:4 ratio using the nearest neighbor method. RESULTS: The matched cohort comprised 685 subjects (RARP, 548; PGA, 137), with a median follow-up period of 22 months. Treatment failures were iden

PURPOSE: To retrospectively investigate whether uterine fibroids with hyperintense on pretreatment T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could be treated with ultrasound-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (USgHIFU). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 282 patients with 282 symptomatic uterine fibroids who underwent USgHIFU treatment were retrospectively analyzed. Based on the signal intensity of T2-weighted MRI, uterine fibroids were classified as hypointense, isointense and hyperintense.
