Spontaneous clearance of psoriasis during the course of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.

A 23-year-old woman had psoriasis vulgaris since childhood. She noted painless enlargement of several lymph nodes in the cervical region accompanied by fever and malaise. A biopsy specimen from a cervical lymph node revealed histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis without granulocyte infiltration (Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease), a rare and benign lymphadenopathy of unknown cause. During the course of the Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease, the patient's recalcitrant psoriatic lesions spontaneously subsided. Complete clearance of psoriatic lesions continued until remission of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.

[Kikuchi-Fujimoto necrotizing lymphadenitis. Report of 2 cases].

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a form of necrotizing lymphadenitis. The disease is a usually benign, self limited cause of lymph node enlargement affecting predominantly young women. Several other clinical manifestations have been described, though the only consistent findings are a macular eruption and a fever. Occasionally, the disease has presented as a fever of unknown origin. Lymph node specimens show areas of necrosis without neutrophilic infiltration. Lymphocyte mediated apoptotic mechanisms are responsible for the necrosis observed. Clinically, it should be differentiated from many

Kikuchi Fujimoto disease secondary to Entamoeba histolytica: case report.

Kikuchi Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis which has a benign self-limiting clinical course. Its origin is unknown, but an abnormal autoimmune reaction has been suggested and infection is often considered to be an inciting agent. A 50-year-old man presented with fever, malaise, fatigue and sweat of 7 days duration, and diarrhea for 2 days. Physical examination revealed five mobile and painless cervical adenopathies. Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites and cysts were detected by microscopy of feces. Parenteral ornidazole treatment was commenced. Thorax compute

[Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease].

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a form of necrotizing lymphadenitis. Although the disease usually affects young women aged less than 30 years, it may also affect men with a wide range of age. Clinically generalized lymphadenopathy in the head and neck region may present. Lymph node specimens show areas of necrosis without neutrophilic infiltration. Necrotic areas result from lymphocyte-mediated apoptotic mechanisms. Clinically, it should be differentiated from many infectious diseases including cat scratch disease and rheumatological diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus. Pathologically, i

An unusual presentation of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a rare, self-limited disease of unknown etiology. This condition is most commonly encountered in Asian and Caucasian females of childbearing age who usually present with cervical lymphadenopathy and fever. Though rarely, KFD has been described in younger African-American females as well. It often mimics more serious conditions such as lymphoma, metastatic solid malignancy, HIV infection, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, or systemic lupus erythematosus. Although its etiopathogenesis has not been fully elucidated,

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease associated with a flare-up of a leukocytoclastic vasculitis: A rare case report and review of literature.

RATIONALE: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) also known as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenopathy is an exceedingly rare cause of cervical lymphadenopathy, commonly accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, night sweats, myalgia, skin rash. PATIENT CONCERNS: In this paper, we report the case of a 22-year-old female patient who experienced a flare-up of leukocytoclastic vasculitis that was complicated by the appearance of a cervical lymph node with dysphagia, fever and nausea. DIAGNOSIS: Infectious and autoimmune workup came back negative. INTERVENTIONS: Excisional lymph node bi

[NEUROLOGIC COMPLICATIONS AROUND THE DIAGNOSIS OF KIKUCHI-FUJIMOTO DISEASE: A RARE PRESENTATION OF THE DISEASE OR A HINT OF AN ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS?].

Neurologic symptoms are an extremely rare presentation of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. We report a case of a young female patient diagnosed with Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease, presenting with neurologic symptoms compatible with aseptic meningitis, along with radiographic findings which improved with steroidal treatment. Despite the rarity of these findings, they were reported as part of the disease manifestation, however, since Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is associated with other diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), other diagnoses cannot be ruled out.

[Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease].

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), also know as histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a benign disorder characterized histologically by necrotic foci surrounded by histiocytic aggregates, and with the absence of neutrophils. KFD was recognized in Japan, where it was first described in 1972. The disease is most commonly affecting young women. The cause of the disease is unknown, and its exact pathogenesis has not yet been clarified. Many investigators have postulated viral etiology of KFD, connecting it with Epstein Barr virus, human herpes simplex virus 6 parvo B 19, but also with toxoplasmic

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease: a rare cause of cervical lymphadenopathy.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease (KFD) is a self-limiting, necrotizing, histiocytic lymphadenitis (NHL) of unknown etiopathogenesis. So far in Nepal not a single case of this disease in the cervical region leading to progressive inspiratory stridor has been reported till date. Here a case of 26 years old Nepalese house wife suffering from this disease, which is histopathologically proved as KFD with complete recovery is presented.

Kikuchi's disease: report of 2 cases and a brief review of the literature.

Kikuchi's lymphadenitis is a histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis without granulocytic infiltration, with fever and generally with a benign course, despite its pathologic resemblance to malignant lymphoma. The illness usually begins with localized cervical adenopathy in young adult females, predominantly before the fourth decade of life. Clinically, several agents could be the cause of such an illness--toxoplasmosis, herpes group viral infection, cat scratch disease, lymphoma, SLE and other infectious agents. The diagnosis is made by using a histological technique. The lymph node biopsy revea

Disseminated Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease: a case report.

Subacute necrotizing lymphadenitis or Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a benign pathological entity diagnosed chiefly in young adults. We report a case in a 20-year-old woman who presented with swollen lymph nodes and a fever. Disseminated lymphadenopathy with nodes measuring up to 6 cm in diameter was found upon physical examination. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate was elevated to 40 mm/h and the lactic dehydrogenase level to 593 IU/l. Findings were negative from serological tests for rubella, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and toxoplasmosis, as well as from tests for tuberculosis. A biopsy of

Co-occurrence of Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and Macrophage Activation Syndrome Presenting With Acute Pancreatitis and Myositis in an Adolescent Male Patient.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare, self-limiting necrotizing lymphadenitis that can mimic infection, malignancy, or autoimmune disease. Its coexistence with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is uncommon and presents significant diagnostic challenges. We report a 15-year-old boy who presented with prolonged fever, generalized lymphadenopathy, cytopenias, oral ulcers, myositis, and acute pancreatitis. Laboratory evaluation revealed positive antinuclear and anti-Smith antibodies, hypocomplementemia, markedly elevated serum ferritin levels (27,650 n

Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy with concomitant development of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease.

Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) is a distinct type of idiopathic inflammatory myositis, pathologically characterized by myofiber necrosis and degeneration in the absence of lymphocyte infiltration. Herein, we present a case of IMNM with concomitant development of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), characterized by histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, in a 36-year-old woman who had a treatment history for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Treatment with oral prednisolone and tacrolimus as immunosuppressants resulted in the remission of the skeletomuscular involvement and lymphadenopathy. To

Necrotizing lymphadenitis : A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Necrotizing lymphadenitis is a rare disease. It is often misdiagnosed because of the lack of typical clinical manifestations. It is worth noting that necrotizing lymphadenitis may be a precursor lesion of systemic lupus erythematosus or tumours, so regular follow-up is needed to facilitate early diagnosis. Here, we report a case and conduct a literature analysis summarizing the clinical features of necrotizing lymphadenitis and its treatment and management practices. CASE PRESENTATION: A 16-year-old young woman presented with fever and lymphadenopathy as the main clinical manifest

Kikuchi-fujimoto disease: a rare case of axillary lymphadenopathy.

BACKGROUND: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a self-limited condition, characterized by benign lymphadenopathy. METHODS AND RESULTS: We describe a case of a 56-year-old male who presented with a node growth in the left axilla, without referring any other symptoms. The patient underwent excision and biopsy of the node and the histological examination established the diagnosis of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. After 3 days of hospitalization, the patient was released in a perfect condition and no medical treatment was prescribed. In a regular follow-up of 3 years the patient remains asymptomatic. CONCLU
