Multiple gingival recession coverage with an allogeneic biostatic fascia lata graft using the tunnel technique--A histological assessment.

BACKGROUND: Autogenous connective tissue graft (CTG) that can be safely harvested from the palatal mucosa is limited. Often a multi-stage surgical procedure is needed to cover multiple gingival recessions (MGR). To address this problem, efforts are being made to explore substitutes suitable in size to ensure surgical treatment in a single visit. The objective of the present study was the histological evaluation of tissue in the recipient site after augmentation with a hydrated biostatic Fascia Lata Allograft (FLA) in conjunction with MGR coverage at different healing stages. Histological and biomechanical study of dura mater applied to the technique of dura splitting decompression in Chiari type I malformation.

Many techniques are described to treat Chiari type I malformation. One of them is a splitting of the dura, removing its outer layer only to reduce the risks of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. We try to show the effectiveness of this technique from histological and biomechanical observations of dura mater. Study was performed on 25 posterior fossa dura mater specimens from fresh human cadavers. Dural composition and architecture was assessed on 47 transversal and sagittal sections. Uniaxial mechanical tests were performed on 22 dural samples (15 entire, 7 split) to focus on the dural macroscopi

Oxidative stress EPR measurement in human liver by radical-probe technique. Correlation with etiology, histology and cell proliferation.

The role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in liver disease is controversial. This mostly reflects the difficulties to quantify ROS in vivo, particularly in humans. We aimed to measure the presence of ROS in diseased human liver and identify possible relations between ROS levels and etiology, histology and hepatocyte proliferation. Liver biopsy specimens from 102 individuals: 18 healthy controls and 84 patients (42 HCV chronic hepatitis (CHC), 19 HBV chronic hepatitis (CHB), 7 PBC, 4 PSC, 4 HCV relapsing hepatitis after liver transplantation, 3 autoimmune hepatitis, 3 hepatocellular carcinoma,

Comparison of 3 Suture Constructs on Upper One-third Subscapularis Tendon Tear Healing: An Animal Study Comparing Biomechanical, Histological, and Imaging Characteristics of Different Techniques.

BACKGROUND: Although arthroscopic single-row repair is a common approach for treating subscapularis tendon tears, its tendon-to-bone healing efficacy remains to be fully validated, particularly in terms of collagen remodeling and local inflammatory response. The H-loop knotless technique aimed to simplify the procedure and enhance repair stability. However, its healing outcomes compared with either the single-row (SR) or modified Mason-Allen (MMA) technique require experimental evaluation. PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to compare single-row, MMA, and H-loop techniques for repairing upper

Comparison between Two-Dimensional and Point Shear Wave Elastography Techniques in Evaluating Liver Fibrosis Using Histological Staging as the Reference Standard: A Prospective Pilot Study.

Evaluation of hepatic fibrosis is essential to prevent liver-related morbidity and mortality. Although various types of ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) have been used and validated, there are limited studies on the relatively newer technique, two-dimensional SWE (2D-SWE). Therefore, this study aimed to compare the diagnostic performances of 2D-SWE and point SWE (p-SWE) for evaluating liver fibrosis using histology as the reference standard. To measure liver stiffness (LS) values, 87 patients underwent 2D-SWE and p-SWE using the same machine. Technical failures and unreliable measureme

A pilot feasibility study of a minimally invasive technique to collect microbiopsies from sternocleidomastoid muscle for histological analysis in humans.

BACKGROUND: The fine-needle (microbiopsy) technique may be suitable for sampling extradiaphragmatic respiratory muscles, but has so far never been used for this purpose. If feasible it would allow to study structural properties and adaptations of these muscles in response to disuse or loading interventions in humans. The sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) might be a promising target. AIM: To assess the feasibility of the microbiopsy technique to obtain muscle tissue of good-quality with cross-sectionally oriented muscle fibres for immunohistochemical analyses of fibre type composition, number o

Post-Hatching Development of the Tongue in Egyptian Fayoumi Chickens (Gallus g. domesticus): New Emphasis on Age-Relational Through Scanning Electron Microscopy, Histological, and Histochemical Techniques.

The present study was the first attempt to describe age-related morphological lingual characterizations of Egyptian Fayoumi chickens at three post-hatching stages (1-day-old, 2-month-old, and 6-month-old) using SEM, histological, and histochemical techniques. There were characteristic features for each age. The papillary crest shape changed as the chickens aged: an arc-shaped crest in 1-day-olds, a "V" shape in 2-month-olds, and a serpentine pattern in 6-month-old chickens. The glottis was bordered by a papillary border in 1-day-old and by rostral nonpapillary and papillary portions in 2- and

Investigation of the effect of over-fired drying on the taste and aroma of Lu'an Guapian tea using metabolomics and sensory histology techniques.

Lu'an Guapian (LAGP) tea, a representative Chinese roasted green tea, undergoes significant changes in taste and aroma during over-fired drying. However, limited studies have been conducted on these effects. This study employed metabolomics and sensory histology techniques to analyze non-volatile and volatile compounds the second drying and pulley liquefied gas drying (PLD) samples. The results revealed that after PLD, the samples exhibited lower umami, bitterness, and astringency; whereas floral, sweet, roasted, cooked corn-like, and cooked chestnut-like aromas became stronger. Among them, th

Deepithelialized Connective Tissue Graft and the Remaining Epithelial Content After Harvesting by the Harris Technique: A Histological and Morphometrical Case Series.

INTRODUCTION: The remaining epithelial layer existent in connective tissue graft (CTG) harvested from the hard palate, which underwent de-epithelization outside the oral cavity, can be histologically detected unless it is completely removed. Its presence may cause adverse esthetics results, affecting thus the color and texture of the receptor site, and an increased risk of presence of scar tissues after surgical procedures. The proposal of this study was to evaluate the CTG (histological and morphometrically) collected from the hard palate using the Harris technique, removing the epithelial la

Use of the Modified Apically Repositioned Flap Technique to Create Attached Gingiva in Areas of No Keratinized Tissue: A Clinical and Histologic Evaluation.

The complete absence of keratinized attached gingiva on the buccal surface of a tooth can make the area more susceptible to gingival recession. The modified apically repositioned flap (MARF) technique is an effective procedure to increase the dimensions of attached gingiva in areas that present with some existing keratinized tissue. The objective of this case report is to present long-term clinical and histologic evidence that the MARF technique can be used to create attached gingiva in areas that lack keratinized tissue.

A simple tissue-handling technique performed in the endoscopy suite improves histologic section quality and diagnostic accuracy for serrated polyps.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Surveillance intervals after colonoscopic resection of serrated polyps are partially predicated on the histology of the polyp(s) removed during the index exam. Histologic discrimination between sessile serrated adenomas/polyps (SSA/P) and hyperplastic polyps is challenging. We devised and tested a simple tool--an envelope--that gastroenterologists can integrate into routine colonoscopy practice to address this problem. METHODS: In the "modified protocol," immediately after polypectomy each serrated polyp was flattened and enclosed in a paper envelope before being pl

The socket-shield technique: first histological, clinical, and volumetrical observations after separation of the buccal tooth segment – a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: The "socket-shield technique" has shown its potential in preserving buccal tissues. However, front teeth often have to be extracted due to vertical fractures in buccolingual direction. It has not yet been investigated if the socket-shield technique can only be used with intact roots or also works with a modified shield design referring to vertical fracture lines. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess histologically, clinically, and volumetrically the effect of separating the remaining buccal root segment in two pieces before immediate implant placement. Effects of composite steaming and drying process on the taste and aroma of pomelo black tea via metabolomics and sensory histology techniques.

This study integrated metabolomics, electronic tongue, and molecular docking to investigate how a multi-stage steam-drying process influences the flavor characteristics of pomelo black tea. Results showed that continuous steam-drying can significantly reduce bitterness and umami, and it could also promote the hydrolysis of flavonoid glycosides such as naringenin and the accumulation of organic acids such as linolenic acid, thereby increasing acidity while reducing bitterness. Volatile component analysis indicated that heat-sensitive terpenes such as γ-terpinene was significantly reduced due to
