Effect of Hot-Pressing Temperature on the Properties of Eco-Friendly Fiberboard Panels Bonded with Hydrolysis Lignin and Phenol-Formaldehyde Resin.

Lignin is the natural binder in wood and lignocellulosic plants and is regarded as the main natural and renewable source of phenolic compounds. Its incorporation in the composition of fiberboards will enhance both the environmental performance of the panels and the complex use of natural resources. In recent years, the increased valorization of hydrolysis lignin in value-added applications, including adhesives for bonding fiberboard panels, has gained significant research interest. Markedly, a major drawback is the retention of lignin in the pulp until the hot-pressing process. This problem co

Effect of Hot-Air Drying Temperature on the Physicochemical, Functional, Compositional, and Structural Properties of Catfish (Clarias macrocephalus × C. gariepinus) Powder.

Catfish (Clarias macrocephalus × C. gariepinus) is economically important but perishable, and hot-air drying yields shelf-stable catfish powder (CFP); however, its quality response to high-temperature drying (>100 °C) remains poorly understood. The present study aimed to examine the effects of five drying temperatures (60-180 °C) on the physicochemical, nutritional, functional, structural, volatile, oxidative, and microbiological properties of CFP. Drying exerted parameter-specific effects. Moisture and water activity fell from 6.24% to 4.75% and 0.42 to 0.23, with microbial counts reduced at

Hidden Solid-State Transformation of Darunavir in Low-Temperature Hot-Melt-Extruded Granules: Implications for Pharmacy Compounding and Routine Quality Control.

Background: Hot-melt extrusion (HME) is a scalable pharmaceutical technology increasingly relevant to flexible manufacturing, including small-batch production, personalized dosage-form development, and potential use in pharmacy compounding. When translated into compounding practice, however, HME introduces a risk that routine quality-control methods available in pharmacies may be insufficient to reliably assess the stability of extrusion-based preparations. Methods: Granules containing 50% (w/w) darunavir were prepared by HME at 70 and 90 °C using a previously developed polymeric premix. Sampl

Differences in body temperature between black-and-white and red-and-white Holstein cows reared on a hot climate using infrared thermography.

Heat stress is one of the greatest issues of the dairy industry in regions with hot climate. Since coat color appears to be related to heat stress adaptiveness, we compared rectal temperatures and surface temperatures of Red-and-white (RW, n = 14) and Black-and-white (BW, n = 16) Holstein cows using infrared thermography in both cold (July; mean temperature: 15.5 °C) and hot (March; mean temperature: 30.5 °C) seasons in Southern Brazil. Thermographic images were taken from the left side of the animal at a distance of 4 m. The images obtained were then analyzed using the software Testo IRSoft.

The Larson Blue coat color phenotype in Holsteins: Characteristics and effects on body temperature regulation and production in lactating cows in a hot climate.

Here we report a previously undescribed coat color phenotype in Holstein cattle. Larson Blue Holsteins, located on a dairy in south Florida, exhibit a coloration pattern that is similar to that of black and white or red and white Holsteins except that, instead of being black or red, darker regions of the body vary in color from gray to taupe. The Larson Blue phenotype was readily apparent in young calves. The phenotype is not due to inheritance of known mutations causing coat color variation in cattle, including dominant red, Telstar, silver color dilutor, or Dun color. Three variants with mod

Physiological and gene expression responses to nitrogen regimes and temperatures in Mastigocladus sp. strain CHP1, a predominant thermotolerant cyanobacterium of hot springs.

Cyanobacteria are widely distributed primary producers with significant implications for the global biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen. Diazotrophic cyanobacteria of subsection V (Order Stigonematales) are particularly ubiquitous in photoautotrophic microbial mats of hot springs. The Stigonematal cyanobacterium strain CHP1 isolated from the Porcelana hot spring (Chile) was one of the major contributors of the new nitrogen through nitrogen fixation. Further morphological and genetic characterization verified that the strain CHP1 belongs to Stigonematales, and it formed a separate clad

Hot temperatures can force delayed mosquito outbreaks via sequential changes in Aedes aegypti demographic parameters in autocorrelated environments.

Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae) is a common pantropical urban mosquito, vector of dengue, Yellow Fever and chikungunya viruses. Studies have shown Ae. aegypti abundance to be associated with environmental fluctuations, revealing patterns such as the occurrence of delayed mosquito outbreaks, i.e., sudden extraordinary increases in mosquito abundance following transient extreme high temperatures. Here, we use a two-stage (larvae and adults) matrix model to propose a mechanism for environmental signal canalization into demographic parameters of Ae. aegypti that could explain delayed high te

Some like it hot, some like it cold; proteome comparison of Leptospira borgpetersenii serovar Hardjo strains propagated at different temperatures.

Leptospirosis is a global zoonotic disease affecting humans and livestock species. Bacterin vaccines lack cross protection between serogroups, and include multiple serovars propagated at 29 °C. Recent work demonstrated substantial variation in the transcriptome of identical species and serovars of Leptospira. Here, substantial differences in protein abundance profiles were identified in Leptospira borgpetersenii serovar Hardjo; strain HB203, which was isolated in the 1980s, compared to newer strains TC129 and TC273 isolated in 2016, and whether they were propagated at the routine temperature o

Effects of visible light and UV radiation on photosynthesis in a population of a hot spring cyanobacterium, a synechococcus sp., subjected to high-temperature stress.

Assays of photosynthesis were conducted with a biofilm population of a cyanobacterium, a Synechococcus sp., growing at approximately 70 degreesC in a Yellowstone National Park hot spring to test whether cells growing near the upper temperature limit of photosynthetic life are optimally adapted to their mean environmental temperature. Cell suspensions were assayed at 70, 65, and 55 degreesC while being simultaneously exposed to modified solar environments, including reduction of total irradiance and exclusion of UV radiation. Carbon fixation was greatest at 65 degreesC, while 70 and 55 degreesC

Low-dose ASA therapy does not alter core or skin temperature during hot-dry or warm-humid heat stress (PSU HEAT project).

Nearly 40% of US adults over the age of 50 use aspirin (ASA) therapy for the primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Systemic platelet cyclooxygenase inhibition with low-dose ASA attenuates reflex cutaneous vasodilation and accelerates the rate of rise of core temperature during passive heating in middle-aged adults. The functional effect of low-dose ASA therapy on thermoregulatory and cardiovascular responses to hot and humid environmental extremes in older (>65 years) adults has not been determined. Eleven older adults (5F; 66-80 years) were exposed to progressive heat str

Characteristics of Three-Dimensional Pore-Fracture Network Development and Enhanced Seepage Heat Transfer in Hot Dry Rock Stimulated by Temperature Shock Effects.

Hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal is a sustainable and clean energy source. However, its development progress is hindered by creating seepage channels in deep reservoirs with low porosity and permeability. Traditional hydraulic fracturing techniques are ineffective for enhancing the permeability of these high-strength reservoirs. To address this, a cyclic nitrogen injection technique was proposed, which leverages the thermal gradients of the hot reservoir to stimulate a complex thermally induced fracture network. To study the three-dimensional pore-fracture structure and the flow characteristic of

Development of indomethacin amorphous solid dispersion by applying acid-base supersolubilization (ABS) principle to enhance solubility and enable low-temperature hot melt extrusion.

This study explores a novel acid-base supersolubilization (ABS) principle for enhancing the solubility and dissolution rate of indomethacin, a poorly water-soluble and weakly acidic drug, by interaction with the weak base tromethamine. The reported aqueous solubilities of indomethacin are 1.5 and 105.2 µg/mL at pH 1.2 and 7.4, respectively. However, in the present investigation, they were increased to 2.5 mg/mL at pH 7.3 and greater than 240 mg/mL at pH ∼ 8.0 by interaction with tromethamine. Such an acid-base interaction also occurred in the solid state, which reduced the melting temperature

Effect of Hot Water Bottle and Cloth Blanket on Rectal Temperature During Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Head in Cats Under General Anesthesia.

Maintaining an animal's body temperature during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) poses great challenges, as many temperature measuring devices and warming systems are incompatible with the MRI machine. The aim of this study was to examine body temperature changes and evaluate the impact of using a hot water bottle and a cloth blanket on rectal temperature during magnetic resonance imaging in cats. We included in this study 30 cats from different breeds that underwent magnetic resonance imaging for 60 min that were randomly divided into a passively insulated group (G1) covered with a blanket (n

Effectiveness of tunnel ventilation as dairy cow housing in hot climates: rectal temperatures during heat stress and seasonal variation in milk yield.

Tunnel ventilation is an increasingly popular approach to mitigate the effects of heat stress on dairy cattle. Tunnel-ventilation barns use a bank of high-power fans to move air horizontally from one end of the barn to the other at cow level. The overall objective of the present experiments was to determine whether tunnel ventilation is superior to housing with fans and sprinklers with respect to rectal temperature during heat stress and seasonal variation in milk yield. In the first study, rectal temperatures were measured for 1097 lactating Holstein cows in six freestall barns with fans and
