Renal transplantation is the best treatment available for end stage renal disease. The determination of human genome has profoundly modified the possible approaches of renal transplant recipient by allowing tailoring of immunosuppressive drugs and immunologic diagnosis. The aim of this review article is to determine the role of these various techniques during the different step before and after transplantation. Genotyping, transcriptome analysis, proteomic as well as the specific immune response are analyzed in this article.

The article presents medical examination and clinical data on 117 cases of silicosis, anthracosilicosis, electric welder's pneumoconiosis and dust bronchitis. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures were performed with due account of generally accepted resort treatment recommendations. The data obtained served as a basis for determining the role of different symptoms and results of complimentary medical, including immunologic, techniques, as well as for objective assessment of the effectiveness of resort treatment of occupational diseases.

Chronic nongranulomatous uveitis associated with JRA, a distinctive clinical entity occurring almost exclusively in the pediatric age group, represents an important cause of visual impairment in children. Despite continuing clarification of the clinical manifestations of this disorder, the etiology of uveitis associated with JRA remains unknown and the pathophysiology is still poorly understood. Further study of uveitis-associated JRA, by the application of improved immunologic theories and techniques, should aid in developing more effective therapeutic and preventive strategies.

Use of monoclonal antibodies directed against T cell antigens for the phenotypic characterization of neoplastic lymphoid cells in peripheral T cell lymphomas is described. Studies of cryostat sections revealed the distribution of T cell subsets in nodal and extranodal infiltrates, and immuno-ultrastructural techniques demonstrated discrete localization of T cell antigens to the cytoplasmic membranes of neoplastic cells. Although histologically similar, the tumors appeared heterogeneous as to their immunologic phenotype, with the majority demonstrating markers for T helper/inducer lymphocytes.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS) is an unexplained obstruction involving the lower laryngeal and upper tracheal airway. Persistent mucosal inflammation is a hallmark of the disease. Epithelial microbiota dysbiosis is found in other chronic inflammatory mucosal diseases; however, the relationship between tracheal microbiota composition and iSGS is unknown. Given the critical role for host defense at mucosal barriers, we analyzed tissue specimens from iSGS patients for the presence of microbial pathogens.

Neurocysticercosis is the most common parasitic disease of the central nervous system. Its incidence diminished dramatically in the last decades in our country, but due to emigration from endemic areas is expected an increase in the next years. In spite of the new immunologic and neuroradiographic techniques, diagnostic of centeinty may be very difficult. In this way exists controversy about the appropriate treatment. We present a case of mixed neurocysticercosis with parenchymal and meningeal disease that shows the difficulty of this disease in its diagnostic and treatment.

The diagnostic value of laboratory and scintigraphic examination techniques in young infants with cholestatic jaundice will be discussed. The correct diagnosis of neonatal hepatitis or extrahepatic biliary atresia cannot be derived from such investigations as determination of bilirubin, enzyme activities, immunologic or serologic parameters or scintigraphy of the liver. Only quantitative changes of serum LP-X before and after administration of cholestyramin and the modified rose-bengal test may help to establish a correct diagnosis in cholestatic jaundice during the first 6 weeks of life.

A patient with a primary undifferentiated carcinoma of the nasopharynx manifested the clinical syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH).
