Female genital tuberculosis (FGTB) is a significant health concern that can lead to infertility in women. FGTB is a common form of tuberculosis that affects the female reproductive organs. In India, around 27.5 million individuals are facing infertility issues due to female factors, and FGTB might be one of the leading causes. A systematic review and proportion meta-analysis of six studies was conducted using MedCalc 20.116 to examine the association between FGTB and infertility. The studies were identified through an electronic search of PubMed, MEDLINE, Elsevier, and the Cochrane Library fro

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances are more prevalent among women with infertility. Current research increasingly highlights the significant relationship between sleep disturbances and female infertility, suggesting that sleep may be a key factor in reproductive health. In this review, we aim to delve into the complex interplay between sleep disturbances and female infertility, as well as to assess the underlying mechanisms involved, and seek to illuminate the causes of sleep-related fertility issues. The understanding of these contents may help clinicians enhance clinical strategies for managing

Obesity has been associated with reduced fertility, although the dynamics and mechanisms which link excess weight to reduced fertility are not yet fully clarified. Obese women, especially those with central obesity, are less likely to conceive per cycle. Obese women suffer from perturbations of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovary axis, disturbances of the menstrual cycle and are up to three times more likely to suffer from oligo/anovulation. A delicate hormonal balance regulates follicular development and the maturation of oocytes and it has been observed that obesity can alter the hormonal envir

INTRODUCTION: Genitourinary tuberculosis is the fourth most common cause of extrapulmonary tuberculosis, although often underestimated by clinicians due to its rare and non-specific symptoms. One of the disease's complications is infertility. Although Portugal is one of the European countries with the highest prevalence of tuberculosis, its impact on Portuguese female fertility is unknown. With this study, we intend to evaluate the prevalence of genital tuberculosis, its presenting symptoms, and pregnancy outcomes in infertile women followed in a Portuguese tertiary hospital.
METHODS: Retrosp

Female hypospadias is a very rare congenital anomaly and its impact on fertility has not yet been clearly defined. A 21-year-old woman with hypospadias was admitted with secondary infertility, dyspareunia, and urge symptoms. She was successfully treated with vaginal flap urethroplasty and broad spectrum antibiotics. Postoperatively, her symptoms resolved and she conceived spontaneously and aborted at her 17th gestational week following premature rupture of membranes suggesting infection. She then conceived spontaneously again and delivered a healthy term baby 30 months after the operation. Fem

Epidemiological studies have demonstrated an increased risk of developing non-transmittable diseases in adults subjected to adverse early developmental conditions. Metabolic and cardiovascular diseases have been the focus of most studies. Nevertheless, data from animal models also suggest early programming of fertility. In humans, it is difficult to assess the impact of the in utero environment retrospectively. Birthweight is commonly used as an indirect indicator of intrauterine development. This research is part of the ALIFERT study. We investigated a potential link between ponderal index at

Copy number variation (CNV) is a main cause of male infertility, yet its influence still remains elusive in that of females. To investigate the correlation between CNV and female infertility, we applied whole-genome CNV analyses by next generation Sequencing (NGS), and analyzed 324 female infertility samples in Xinjiang Province, People's Republic of China. We identified 29 CNVs in total, of which 10 were novel CNVs. We found these CNVs mostly in chromosome X. The CNVs from one sample overlapped the POF1B gene that was related to premature ovarian failure (POF). The rest of these CNVs overlapp

Chinese medicine (CM) has been used in clinical treatment for thousands of years in China, Japan, Korea, and other countries. CM is at present attracting many attentions around the world for reproductive health care and disease prevention, including treatment of female infertility. This review focuses on the CM treatment for female infertility patients, and supplies a summary on the efficacy, safety, and mechanism of some Chinese herbal medicines, herbal medicine-derived active compounds, and acupuncture. A large number of researches have reported that CM could alleviate or even cure female in

Infertility is a worldwide problem. 15-20% married couples are childless though they want children. The tubal factor is the most frequent cause of female infertility. Chlamydia trachomatis is one of the most frequent pathogenic organisms which cause tubal occlusion. From January 1995 till June 1997 at the 1st Dept. Gynecol. and Obstetric, 1st Fac. of Medicine 327 infertile women were examined divided into three groups (sterile, included in the IVF programme on account of the tubal factor and those included in the programme for other reasons). In all an antigenic examination from the endocervix

Despite the fact that endometriosis is a common gynecological disease that occurs in 10% of women of reproductive age, the pathogenesis and treatment strategy are not clear to date. Endometriosis patients are commonly characterized by adhesions in the pelvis or ovaries, which leads to prolonged inflammation in the abdominal cavity. To handle the chronic inflammation, changes of immune cells, including T cells, NK cells, and macrophage, are accompanied. Therefore, diverse cytokines and adhesions of the abdominal cavity lead to poor quality of ovarian follicles, inappropriate response to the hor

Based on recent, historical, and circumstantial evidence, we present a multifactorial hypothesis that has potential direct implications on the epidemiology and management of chlamydial infection and disease in humans. We propose that (1) like its veterinary relatives, the oculogenital pathogen Chlamydia trachomatis evolved as a commensal organism of the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract primarily transmissible via the fecal-oral route; (2) in the modern era, C. trachomatis causes "opportunistic" infection at non-GI sites under conditions driven by improved sanitation/hygiene and reduced fecal-

Pivotal genetic information has been derived for a host of rare genetic disorders, but progress has been much slower in relation to the common causes of female infertility. In this chapter, we shall illustrate the approaches being applied in elucidating conditions causing infertility that are inherited in a polygenic/multifactorial fashion. The task is to determine the number of genes responsible and their chromosomal location(s). The first approach is to use genome-wide quantitative linkage analysis, searching throughout the genome with no prior expectation that a given gene or chromosomal re

Lifetime industrial and occupational histories of women with a medically-confirmed diagnosis of infertility (n = 281) were compared to a group of postpartum women (n = 216) for risks of infertility. Controlling for age of first pregnancy or self-report of infertility, date of outcome, cigarette use, and employment in other types of industries, women were at increased risk of infertility if they had worked in industries associated with agriculture (OR = 7.0, 95% CI 2.3-20.8; cases = 11.7%, controls = 1.9%). Among the occupations in which women worked prior to outcome, only those in agriculture
