Health information technology use in clinical practice and implications for implementation: Examples from Canberra Health Services, Australia.

BACKGROUND: Health information technology (HIT) has advanced rapidly over the past two decades, yet digital transformation in healthcare remains difficult and lags behind many other sectors. Existing literature suggests that implementation outcomes are context-dependent and may vary across settings, limiting the feasibility of universal standardisation. OBJECTIVE: Building on this broader literature, this study examines three contrasting HIT implementations at Canberra Health Services (CHS), Australia, to address three questions: (i) How do clinicians perceive the benefits and limitations of

Elder Mistreatment Documentation by Prehospital Clinicians: An Analysis of the National Emergency Medical Services Information System Database.

OBJECTIVES: Elder mistreatment (EM), encompassing abuse and neglect, is a significant public health issue, affecting up to 10% of community-dwelling older adults annually. Elder mistreatment is a growing concern with a higher prevalence in institutional settings and substantial associated healthcare costs. Prehospital clinicians (PHCs) such as emergency medical technicians and paramedics are uniquely positioned to detect and report EM during their interactions with older adults in their homes. The objective of the study is to describe the rate and characteristics of EM documented by PHCs using

Provision of interpreting support for cross-cultural communication in UK maternity services: A Freedom of Information request.

BACKGROUND: Language, communication and understanding of information are central to safe, ethical and efficient maternity care. The National Health Service (NHS) commissioning board, NHS England, describes how healthcare providers should obtain language support through professionally trained interpreters. Providers of interpreters are commissioned to deliver remote/face to face interpretation across the NHS. Services can be booked in advance or calls can be made in real time. However, women report infrequent use of professionally trained interpreters during their maternity care, often relying

Unofficial policy: access to housing, housing information and social services among homeless drug users in Hartford, Connecticut.

BACKGROUND: Much research has shown that the homeless have higher rates of substance abuse problems than housed populations and that substance abuse increases individuals' vulnerability to homelessness. However, the effects of housing policies on drug users' access to housing have been understudied to date. This paper will look at the "unofficial" housing policies that affect drug users' access to housing. METHODS: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 65 active users of heroin and cocaine at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Participants were purposively sampled to reflect a variety of housing

Voices of unpaid carers: problems and prospects in accessing palliative care and self-care information, resources and services.

BACKGROUND: Unpaid carers make a substantial contribution to the health economy and carers of palliative patients are particularly vulnerable due to special patient needs and excessive carer burden. The Australian Government recently implemented the Integrated Carer Support Service Model to provide a range of free services to carers in the community. However, it is unclear whether such initiatives are effective and, more importantly, how carers of palliative patients gain access to information, support and services for the patient and themselves. OBJECTIVES: We sought to investigate unpaid ca

Key informant perspectives on sexual health services for travelling young adults: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: International travel has become increasingly popular among young adults. Young adults often engage in casual sexual relationships abroad, exhibit sexual risk behaviours and may thus be at risk of contracting sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections. Pre-travel interventions and consultations may mitigate this risk. At present, we know little about sexual health-related pre-travel interventions. The aim of this study was therefore to document key informants' experiences, perceptions and recommendations in the context of sexual health of young adult travellers. METHODS: Key i
