Social Information Processing Theory Indicators of Child Abuse Risk: Cultural Comparison of Mothers from Peru and the United States.

Much of the research conducted on social information processing (SIP) factors predictive of child abuse risk has been conducted in North America, raising questions about how applicable such models may be in other cultures. Based on the premise that the parents' child abuse risk is affected by both risk and protective factors, the current study considered how specific SIP socio-cognitive risk factors (acceptability of parent-child aggression as a discipline approach; empathic ability; frustration tolerance) as well as social support satisfaction as a resource related to child abuse risk by comp

Computational Study of Chemical Reactivity Using Information-Theoretic Quantities from Density Functional Reactivity Theory for Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Reactions.

The electrophilic aromatic substitution for nitration, halogenation, sulfonation, and acylation is a vastly important category of chemical transformation. Its reactivity and regioselectivity is predominantly determined by nucleophilicity of carbon atoms on the aromatic ring, which in return is immensely influenced by the group that is attached to the aromatic ring a priori. In this work, taking advantage of recent developments in quantifying nucleophilicity (electrophilicity) with descriptors from the information-theoretic approach in density functional reactivity theory, we examine the reacti

FOR: Point Cloud Outlier Removal Based on Fuzzy Theory and Informativeness and Its Application to 3D Object Detection.

LiDAR is widely used in autonomous driving. Although LiDAR point cloud data can provide stable and reliable information about the environment, it also faces the problem of a huge amount of data. One of the reasons is that point cloud data contains a large amount of noise and outliers. Outlier removal of point clouds can reduce the impact of these disturbances and improve the quality of the point cloud, but it will inevitably eliminate some valid points, which affects subsequent perception tasks. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a fuzzy outlier removal (FOR) method based on fuzz

Self-Entropic Broadening Theory: Toward a New Understanding of Self and Behavior Change Informed by Psychedelics and Psychosis.

The extremes of human experiences, such as those occasioned by classic psychedelics and psychosis, provide a rich contrast for understanding how components of these experiences impact well-being. In recent years, research has suggested that classic psychedelics display the potential to promote positive enduring psychologic and behavioral changes in clinical and nonclinical populations. Paradoxically, classic psychedelics have been described as psychotomimetics. This review offers a putative solution to this paradox by providing a theory of how classic psychedelics often facilitate persistent i

Receptor-informed network control theory links LSD and psilocybin to a flattening of the brain's control energy landscape.

Psychedelics including lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin temporarily alter subjective experience through their neurochemical effects. Serotonin 2a (5-HT2a) receptor agonism by these compounds is associated with more diverse (entropic) brain activity. We postulate that this increase in entropy may arise in part from a flattening of the brain's control energy landscape, which can be observed using network control theory to quantify the energy required to transition between recurrent brain states. Using brain states derived from existing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)

Burnout, resilience, and the cost of learning in medical students: A scoping review informed by professional identity formation theory.

INTRODUCTION: Medical students routinely encounter emotionally and ethically demanding clinical situations that shape, and sometimes strain, their developing professional identities. This review extends the cost of caring constructs in clinicians to conceptualize the cost of learning in students and examine how it interacts with burnout, resilience, and grit within professional identity formation (PIF). METHODS: Using a theory-informed scoping review design and a constructivist, relativist lens, five databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, ERIC, and PsycINFO) were searched for English-language art

How Parents Cope With Value Tensions in Their Young Child's Nutrition: An Interview Study Informed by Paradox Theory.

When facing challenging nutrition decisions, parents experience tension between their personal values and those they have for their child. These tensions a risk of leading to unhealthy nutrition decisions, particularly in disadvantaged environments where resources for healthy nutrition are scarcer. Prioritising one value over another, i.e., a 'trade-off' such as a child's dietary health over the parent's convenience, can cause stress due to unsatisfactory outcomes and recurring value tension. Drawing on Paradox theory, this qualitative study examines how parents cope with nutrition-related val

Reframing Rehabilitation Retention in Long-Term Conditions: A Theory-Informed Mini-Review of Psychological Adaptation and Engagement.

Rehabilitation in long-term conditions requires not only clinical capacity but also sustained patient engagement, yet retention is commonly reduced to crude completion metrics. This theory-informed conceptual mini-review used a purposive, non-systematic synthesis of literature identified from the authors' existing knowledge base, targeted PubMed/MEDLINE searches last updated on 9 August 2026, and backward reference checking; the final article cites 76 sources. Retention is reframed as six related phases comprising referral and eligibility, uptake or initiation, early attendance, ongoing attend

Rethinking injury in construction safety technology: A theory-informed analytical review of hazard detection and injury burden.

INTRODUCTION: The construction industry remains one of the most hazardous work environments despite advances in safety technologies. Construction safety technology (CST) research has increasingly focused on hazard detection, monitoring, and prediction; however, the conceptualization of injury within this literature remains unclear. METHOD: This study examines how injuries are represented in CST research through a theory-informed analytical review of 148 studies. The analysis is structured around three domains: safety risk context, safety management function, and injury outcome and burden. RE

Illness risk representations underlying women's breast cancer risk appraisals: A theory-informed qualitative analysis.

OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the utility of Cameron's Illness Risk Representation (IRR) framework in understanding how women interpret their breast cancer risk after receiving a clinically derived estimate. DESIGN: Secondary qualitative analysis of two studies within the BC-Predict trial, using semi-structured telephone interviews with women aged 47-74 who received breast cancer risk estimates via population screening. METHODS: Forty-eight women were informed of their 10-year breast cancer risk (low (<1.5% risk), average (1.5-4.99%), above-average (moderate; 5-7.99%) and high (≥8%)). Mode

Theory-Informed Development of a Multicomponent Intervention to Implement Clinical Practice Guideline Recommendations in the Management of Shoulder Pain.

OBJECTIVE: Suboptimal primary health care management of shoulder pain has been reported in previous studies. Implementing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) recommendations using a theoretical approach is recommended to improve shoulder pain management. This study aims to identify determinants of implementing recommendations from shoulder CPGs to help develop an intervention based on the identified determinants. METHODS: Family physicians and physical therapists managing patients with shoulder pain in primary care were invited to participate in a qualitative study to identify determinants to

Women's Metaphors About BRCA Gene Testing and How They Can Inform Health Communication Theory and Practice.

Genetic testing can detect whether an individual carries a harmful variant in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 (Breast Cancer 1 or 2) gene which, if present, drastically increases a woman's risk for breast and ovarian cancer. The experience of BRCA gene testing can be an emotionally laden process yielding significant uncertainty. In this study, we examined women's experiences of BRCA gene testing by exploring how participants communicatively framed and made sense of this process through the use of metaphors. Comparing uncertain and unfamiliar experiences to familiar references through metaphor can help peop

Reporting Sexual Victimization During Incarceration: Using Ecological Theory as a Framework to Inform and Guide Future Research.

The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that between 149,200 and 209,400 incidents of sexual victimization occur annually in prisons and jails. However, very few individuals experiencing sexual victimization during incarceration report these incidents to correctional authorities. Federal-level policy recommendations derived from the Prison Rape Elimination Act suggest mechanisms for improving reporting as well as standards for the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of prison-based sexual victimization. Despite these policy recommendations, sexual assault persists in prisons and jails,

HPV vaccination and the effect of information framing on intentions and behaviour: an application of the theory of planned behaviour and moral norm.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) known to cause cervical cancer and genital warts. However, making the genital warts aspect explicit may reduce HPV vaccination intention and behaviour due to perceived stigma associated with STIs. PURPOSE: This study investigated the effect of differential information framing on intention to receive the HPV vaccine using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and moral norm construct. METHOD: Female university students were randomised to receive a fact sheet describing the HPV vaccine as: (1) preventing ce

Impact of a theory-informed and user-centered stroke information campaign on the public's behaviors, attitudes, and knowledge when facing acute stroke: a controlled before-and-after study.

BACKGROUND: Public awareness of stroke symptoms is a key factor to ensure access to reperfusion strategies in due time. We designed and launched a regional theory-informed and user-centered information campaign and assessed its impact on emergency medical services (EMS) calls for stroke suspicion, time-to-call, and public attitudes and awareness concerning stroke. METHODS: A controlled before-and-after study was conducted during 3 sequential time-periods in 2 separate counties. Key messages of the campaign were underpinned by stroke representations and the theory of planned behavior, and focu

Enzymatic markers of gallstone-induced pancreatitis identified by ROC curve analysis, discriminant analysis, logistic regression, likelihood ratios, and information theory.

We investigated the diagnostic utility of frequent serial determinations of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lipase, amylase, and the lipase/amylase (L/A) ratio for distinguishing patients with acute pancreatitis due to biliary obstruction from those with acute pancreatitis due to other pathogenesis. Analyzed were enzyme activities obtained at admission and peak enzyme activities identified retrospectively from serial measurements in 53 patients with acute pancreatitis due to various causes. We evaluated the data with multiple statistical tools. Discriminant analysis

Research on the Performance Prediction of Fly Ash Slurry by Neural Network Based on Information Bottleneck Theory and Attention Mechanism.

In grouting projects, the relationship between slurry properties and mix proportions is multivariate and nonlinear. Researchers have widely employed mathematical and computational methods to investigate this relationship, and the use of machine learning to predict the properties of fly ash slurries has gradually become a hot topic. To this end, this paper uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) to establish predictive models relating grout mix proportions to the properties of the grout and the resulting stone bodies. It investigates the effects of the water-to-binder ratio, fly ash dosage, a
